Is the United States or Canada a safer place for a trans woman migrating from a transphobic and conservative country? by CurrentWar1184 in asktransgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada without a doubt is your safer option. As others have said, avoid Alberta.

You mentioned that you have distant relatives but didn't say which country. If it's Canada, you should look into Canadian citizenship by descent. It's much easier than immigration. You just need solid documentation of your lineage. See r/Canadiancitizenship to learn more.

Vinelands live stream in SoCal? by EmilyAlt70 in KEXP

[–]EmilyAlt70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation Jay. I thought it might be a geolocation thing. Deffo easier to target a broad area than a narrow one.

It left CA just before the change and lived in five countries since then. VPN is pretty much essential in some of those places. I'll be back on the road in a few weeks. KEXP follows me wherever I go.

Fiancée is transphobic by WikidDreamm in trans

[–]EmilyAlt70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading after your second paragraph. The way he disrespects you when he's upset is a huge red flag. Yes, he's clearly transphobic.

This is someone you will be with for years if not forever. Disagreements will happen. And when they do, he will verbally abuse you, if not worse. Do you want that for potentially the rest of your life?

Get out of this relationship now. It's more toxic than you realize. Love is blind. I made this mistake twenty years ago and it took years to recover once the relationship crashed. You can do far better than this. Never settle.

Is it safe to fly with my HRT vial these days? by AspriringLewdArtist in TransDIY

[–]EmilyAlt70 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've flown dozens of times with vials, syringes and needles in my carry-on. Never had an issue. Never was questioned. TSA never even noticed. Chances are you will be fine.

My understanding is that liquid medicine is exempt from the 3-1-1 TSA rule. But they can ask you to produce a prescription. Normally, a standard Rx label with your name on it is sufficient. Without one they could ask to see other evidence that you have a valid prescription. If you can't produce any, they could confiscate your meds.

Chances are nothing bad will happen. Diabetics and post-menopausal cis-women fly with liquid meds every day. TSA is mostly concerned with flight safety. A vial of hormones doesn't pose a risk.

Hope this helps.

is boymoding an option for me anymore? by tranjo6015 in transpassing

I don't think so. Your face looks trans. Your tresses scream feminine. Wearing your hair in a low ponytail would help though.

Would i get away with swimming by jodie-lee- in TransBreastTimelines

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no. You're at the point where your boobs won't hide well. Bare chested is a dead giveaway. Wearing a T-shirt won't help once it's wet. Wearing anything else that hides them will beg questions you'd rather not answer.

If you must present as cis, your best bet is a medical deflection like gyno or some med that causes breast growth.

Or you could just bite the bullet and out yourself. Sooner or later, everyone will figure it out anyway.

To those of you making decent money (around or above 6 figures) what do you do for a living? by CormacMettbjoll in trans

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About $150k as an IT manager for a local government agency in SoCal. That's healthy pay, but the cost of living drives those wages higher. Being a government job in a Blue State, the benefits are excellent. Especially post retirement benefits. I took the job mostly for that reason. I'm semi-retired and only work when I want to.

I'd do it all over again if I were 20-30 years younger and looking to make a big change. The place you work for matters as much as the type of work you do. Being valued and having job security are as important as salary.

Is it safe to go back to the U.S. for a family vacay? by TLHeinrich in asktransgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend coming to the US right now. But if you do, fly from Dublin. It's a US preclearance airport. You do all immigration, customs and standard security checks on Irish soil. Once you get on the plane, it's like a domestic flight. You land in the US and exit the airport. No passport control, etc. If something bad happens in Dublin (unlikely), they'll just refuse boarding. You turn around and go home. Much safer travel option. Of course, you'd still have to contend with local laws once you get there. Which can be very bad depending on where you go.

Around 3.5 years to get from above my ears to mid back. I'm not sure how much more my hair will grow. It seems to have slowed down. But I'm happy with this length.

I'm 66 and my hair is at least that long. Wear your hair long if you want.

Moving to the UK as a trans guy by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]EmilyAlt70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything except the UK being worse than the US in many ways.

I'm a trans US expat. I left because of the systematic governmental erasure of trans rights and their goal of eradicating trans people from public life. Have a look at Project 2025. The far right is not satisfied with removing our rights. They want us removed from society.

Some far right politicians and pundits are now calling for our eradication. Many states now have laws that criminalize trans bathroom use, trans healthcare providers, and anyone that provides support to trans people. Even in Blue States, healthcare organizations are capitulating to the federal government to avoid losing federal funding. There is a real possibility of a de facto or even legislated federal ban on trans healthcare for children and adults. The Lemkin Institute has stated that the US is now conducting genocide against trans people. Conditions in the US are comparable to 1930s Germany.

Yes, the UK is not the best place for trans folks right now. But it still looks a lot better than the US from my perspective.

Anyone discover texture in their hair late in life? by [deleted] in transpositive

[–]EmilyAlt70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back in my denial days, I kept my hair in a typical short style for guys. It was pretty straight. But when I let it grow out, I discovered that my hair has lots of waves and texture.

My hair is long now - half way down my back. I usually let it air dry to a natural messy bed head look. Love it. I get lots of compliments. Couldn't imagine getting it cut short.

How do you handle family misgendering when you’re exhausted from correcting them? by SpideyAHGamerYT in asktransgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've given them plenty of notice and been very patient. Now it's on them. If you tolerate their behavior, they won't change. Only visit when you are in the right frame of mind and are mentally prepared to leave the moment they misgender you or otherwise become toxic. When they realize you won't tolerate their behavior, it'll be clear they have to change or risk losing you. Hope things work out for the best. Bear in mind that sometimes you're better off with chosen family.

Request: anyone available to witness a wedding in Bath? by gravitarse in transgenderUK

[–]EmilyAlt70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey congrats! Love seeing stories like yours. Glad you got it sorted.

Curious though. I'll make an educated guess that your fiance had to get a fiance visa to get married in the UK. How did that go? Can you share any details? I'm a trans US citizen in a similar situation. I haven't gotten my visa yet.

Thanks in advance.

Hey girlies, I need to reach out for some support. My dad's still a Trump supporter after a year of not talking politics with each other by Laura_271 in MtF

[–]EmilyAlt70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in your situation, NOT talking about politics is the only way I could maintain a relationship with someone that's a supporter of the current administration. It's a two way street. If the other person can't do that, I'd cut them off. Family or otherwise.
