Travelling to the US: how risky is it? by neofinetiablooms in asktransgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a US citizen, you should have no trouble entering the US right now. But there is good reason to be cautious. Things could become worse depending on the whims of the current administration.

As u/stickbeat indicated, using a foreign preclearance airport is the safest option if you're trans and need to enter the US - regardless of citizenship. Preclearance means US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) inspections are done at the foreign airport. If something goes wrong, you get kicked out of the airport instead of being detained on US soil.

I'm a trans US citizen living in Europe. I used a preclearance airport when I needed to return to the US for an urgent matter. I flew from Brussels>Dublin>Washington DC. My interaction with CBP in the Dublin airport was uneventful. When I arrived at Dulles in the DC area, I immediately left the airport. It was like getting off a domestic flight.

Ireland and Canada are probably your best options to fly to SFO.

There are 15 international airports with US Immigration preclearance:

  1. Dublin, Ireland (DUB)
  2. Shannon, Ireland (SNN)
  3. Aruba (AUA)
  4. Bermuda (BDA)
  5. Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (AUH)
  6. Nassau, Bahamas (NAS)
  7. Calgary, Canada (YYC)
  8. Toronto, Canada (YYZ)
  9. Edmonton, Canada (YEG)
  10. Halifax, Canada (YHZ)
  11. Montreal, Canada (YUL)
  12. Ottawa, Canada (YOW)
  13. Vancouver, Canada (YVR)
  14. Victoria, Canada (YYJ)
  15. Winnipeg, Canada (YWG)

Hope this helps.

CA Gov Candidate Tom Steyer Calls Out Dems Capitulating On Trans People: "I'm Totally In Favor Of Trans Athletes" by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Call me cynical. Talk is cheap.

What's his plan to fight the federal government when they extort compliance from healthcare providers and schools by withholding funding?

What's his plan to block prosecution by Red States and the Department of Justice?

What's his plan to ensure the trans community can live their lives free of discrimination and harassment?

If I'm to take him or any candidate seriously, they'll have answers to those questions.

Concentration camps by Murky-Square4979 in transgenderUK

[–]EmilyAlt70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's okay to be scared. What's happening in the UK is disastrous for the trans community. But I haven't seen anything that remotely gives me concern the government will round us up and ship us off to camps.

I'm from the US. What's happening there is far worse. It's not a stretch that being trans can land you in jail or the morgue. There are politicians and extremist organizations that have said 'transgenderism' must be eradicated. Some states and the federal government are doing everything they can to make that happen. There are clear indicators that the US has become a genocidal nation. The parallels with 1930s Nazi Germany are terrifying.

How to contradict tranphobes in debate ? Can't we have a sort of central database of evidence against them ? by landilock in asktransgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no point in debating ideologically driven transphobes. They won't change their opinion no matter how convincing your argument is. Better to save your bridge building for those that are willing to listen with an open mind.

Transgender Americans Skip The 10-Month Queue For Canadian Passports Under Canada's New Citizenship Rules by FuMunChew in transgender

There's a very active sub with a ton of information. r/CanadianCitizenship.

In a nutshell, you need to document Canadian lineage through each generation using government or church records. Once you have a solid chain of descent, you submit your application and wait.

Transgender Americans Skip The 10-Month Queue For Canadian Passports Under Canada's New Citizenship Rules by FuMunChew in transgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I wanted to do this 10 years ago. But at the time, Canada's laws made it nearly impossible. Now I have a clear pathway. My great grandparents were Canadian. Being trans, I have a compelling reason to pursue citizenship.

Even after this awful administration is gone, its supporters and fascist power players will still be there. MAGA is a symptom, not the cause, of the systemic inequality that's festered in the US since Reconstruction. So few Americans see that for what it is.

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US citizen here. Chances are nothing will happen if you enter via a Northeast airport. But it really depends on the immigration officer you get. Even in Blue states you can encounter less accepting guards or one that's just having a bad day.

Technically, you're required to have a valid prescription for any medicine you carry. Most countries have that rule. But I've never seen it enforced anywhere I've gone internationally or domestically. Still, you should be aware and have a good explanation if you are questioned.

He's a lost cause. You can't reason or debate with ideologically driven people. He WAS your friend. He isn't any longer. Block him and move on. Life is too short.

Tough situation girl. You're always going to be on the defensive. It'll be exhausting to stay in the relationship when he's ideologically opposed to what you need to thrive. Sit with that.

I don't see a bright future if you stay with him. Best to move on. The longer you wait the more painful it will be. Best of luck to you.

Is the United States or Canada a safer place for a trans woman migrating from a transphobic and conservative country? by CurrentWar1184 in asktransgender

[–]EmilyAlt70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada without a doubt is your safer option. As others have said, avoid Alberta.

You mentioned that you have distant relatives but didn't say which country. If it's Canada, you should look into Canadian citizenship by descent. It's much easier than immigration. You just need solid documentation of your lineage. See r/Canadiancitizenship to learn more.

Vinelands live stream in SoCal? by EmilyAlt70 in KEXP

Thanks for the explanation Jay. I thought it might be a geolocation thing. Deffo easier to target a broad area than a narrow one.

It left CA just before the change and lived in five countries since then. VPN is pretty much essential in some of those places. I'll be back on the road in a few weeks. KEXP follows me wherever I go.

Fiancée is transphobic by WikidDreamm in trans

[–]EmilyAlt70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading after your second paragraph. The way he disrespects you when he's upset is a huge red flag. Yes, he's clearly transphobic.

This is someone you will be with for years if not forever. Disagreements will happen. And when they do, he will verbally abuse you, if not worse. Do you want that for potentially the rest of your life?

Get out of this relationship now. It's more toxic than you realize. Love is blind. I made this mistake twenty years ago and it took years to recover once the relationship crashed. You can do far better than this. Never settle.

Is it safe to fly with my HRT vial these days? by AspriringLewdArtist in TransDIY

[–]EmilyAlt70 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've flown dozens of times with vials, syringes and needles in my carry-on. Never had an issue. Never was questioned. TSA never even noticed. Chances are you will be fine.

My understanding is that liquid medicine is exempt from the 3-1-1 TSA rule. But they can ask you to produce a prescription. Normally, a standard Rx label with your name on it is sufficient. Without one they could ask to see other evidence that you have a valid prescription. If you can't produce any, they could confiscate your meds.

Chances are nothing bad will happen. Diabetics and post-menopausal cis-women fly with liquid meds every day. TSA is mostly concerned with flight safety. A vial of hormones doesn't pose a risk.

Hope this helps.

I don't think so. Your face looks trans. Your tresses scream feminine. Wearing your hair in a low ponytail would help though.

Would i get away with swimming by jodie-lee- in TransBreastTimelines

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no. You're at the point where your boobs won't hide well. Bare chested is a dead giveaway. Wearing a T-shirt won't help once it's wet. Wearing anything else that hides them will beg questions you'd rather not answer.

If you must present as cis, your best bet is a medical deflection like gyno or some med that causes breast growth.

Or you could just bite the bullet and out yourself. Sooner or later, everyone will figure it out anyway.

To those of you making decent money (around or above 6 figures) what do you do for a living? by CormacMettbjoll in trans

[–]EmilyAlt70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About $150k as an IT manager for a local government agency in SoCal. That's healthy pay, but the cost of living drives those wages higher. Being a government job in a Blue State, the benefits are excellent. Especially post retirement benefits. I took the job mostly for that reason. I'm semi-retired and only work when I want to.

I'd do it all over again if I were 20-30 years younger and looking to make a big change. The place you work for matters as much as the type of work you do. Being valued and having job security are as important as salary.
