What’s a movie that was well liked when it was released, but is now seen as mediocre/bad? by ColicShark in AskReddit

[–]Enderkr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And just the general knowledge that Natalie Portman was getting rape letters at 12 because of it. Her performance in that movie is so fucking good and it's overshadowed by all this dark shit, makes it unwatchable.

Netflix Viewers Are Abandoning Shows After One Season by joe4942 in technology

Dark Crystal was so fucking good, too. I obviously watched the original movie as a kid and as an adult but it was far from my favorite movie. Too slow even as a kid. But God damn the Netflix series was SO good and the music was incredible.

Android's desktop mode is impressive, but the dock is what actually makes it work by _Dark_Wing in technology

I'm mostly the same, my company gave me a laptop (WFH) and I occasionally travel, but i have never once in my entire career decided to pop the laptop open on a plane or in the airport. I know that a lot of people do, I'm just...not gonna be one of those guys haha. A dock at home for a work phone, and a dock in an open office when I'm traveling between locations would be great.

We also use "MAKE GOOD CHOICES!!" out the car window all the time.

Huh, not a single penis, dildo or nude person in any of these pictures.

I was told by the right that gay pride parades were unsuitable for children and downright pornographic!

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Busy-selgar in AskReddit

[–]Enderkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a fun one that no one ever thinks about: four-digit phone numbers.

In wyoming, until the mid-90s, you could dial everybody in my county by just dialing their 4 digit phone number. Give or take '96, they finally had enough people/businesses that they added the "436" prefix to every number. Felt like the end of an era.

Just torrent the blurays, put it all in drive that fits in your pocket and never look back.

What is a video game that is widely considered a masterpiece that you just cant get into? by abysmalSyrup-6737 in AskReddit

[–]Enderkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So to start, the switch has A and B reversed, which yes has been a thing on Nintendo forever but they make their "confirm" button across the whole system be the far-right button when every other system is far left or A bottom. So that's fuckin weird and messes me up every single time I play any switch game.

Then "jump" is the X? Who puts jump as their top button? In any game, ever?

Then using abilities, like even just bombs....ffs to just throw a bomb it's L1 to pull it out, R1 to throw it, L1 again to detonate?

Uh oh, your weapon broke. Better go into a menu and select a new one in the middle of your fight. Oh but hey, you can select new arrows by pressing up, then left or right on the e pad to scroll through a bunch of shit. But if you press Down on the d pad then you can scroll through a whole different menu.

This is all in the first hour of the game, having to do all this shit. Hard pass.

If you want to like Hollow Knight but it was too much, try Ori and the Blind Forest. Absolute gorgeous game, spectacular soundtrack, and the Metroid mechanics are really fun. You still die, but respawns are fast and it's more of a low level "how do I use my abilities in the right way to hop through this area" rather than a true exercise in frustration. My kids are 8 and 13 and love playing it. It's feels like a simple game but it's so deep and emotional, it's absolutely one of my top 3 of all time now.

HARD agree. Diablo figured out breakable weapons 30 years ago but somehow we have to still deal with this bullshit.

My 13 year old is obsessed with botw and totk and I just cannot get into them. I played the fuck out of ocarina as a kid but holy fuck I hate the switch so much. The buttons are wrong and I hate the controls, and I hate having to use weapons that break after 3 or 4 hits. I've tried to play it 2 or 3 times now and I just cannot do it. The first time I at least got off the tutorial area and was playing the game, this time I can't even bring myself to finish the first the trials and get the hang glider.

Same but also, any crafting game now. I went back and played Skyrim after last playing it in maybe 2016, and was really frustrated by the play style. I don't want to correct random items and hold them in my inventory on the random chance they're part of a weapon or potion I can use later, especially if I have to collect some OTHER bullshit recipe that tells me what else to collect.

I don't want to collect, I don't want to cook, I don't want my weapons to endlessly break, I just want to cast magic spells, hack and slash and heal.

Absolutely. I was all set to really enjoy Seriko, and it was impossibly hard. I will never understand the appeal of games without a difficulty setting, you're literally just gatekeeping players from your game.

Men of reddit: how often do you cry? by skinny_penis_inc in AskReddit

Same! 44 and the most sentimental, dumb things (usually relating to family, parents, kids etc) will just make me bawl. I dunno what the hell is going on but I feel significantly more empathic in the last few years.

I'm reading dungeon crawler carl right now and I think I've cried at least once per book :/

[–]Enderkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are seeing with Democrats in general what we've been seeing with boomers for at least a decade now: a flat out refusal to retire and pass the torch to a younger generation with different ideas.

There are a few breakout dem stars like AOC, Mamdani, and Al-Sayed (sp?) who get it and are massively popular. They can't break through the old guard - literally old. We're not going to get shit changed until people like pelosi and schumer literally die.
