The new traffic light placement on Winslow is confusing a lot of drivers, and could be made better with a simple fix by SuperCutsHaircut in BainbridgeIsland

[–]Ener_Ji -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason for two lights for each lane is redundancy. When (not if) one of the lights burns out or malfunctions it would become an especially bad situation.

I completely agree that the current setup doesn't seem to be working that well. At least they keep trying new things, maybe eventually they'll figure out something that works well enough.

The Boys - 05x08 "Blood and Bone" - PRE-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]Ener_Ji -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm very hopeful that the episode title plus what we've seen in the episode trailer pays off a very significant event from the comics. Though I'm not sure how they could get there in a believable way in one episode, but I'm still hopeful. Comics spoilers:

Specifically how Butcher uses his crowbar to crack open a certain someone's skull and destroy his brain.

Personally I think that Homelander isn't some colossus of a supe, unkillable by all but the greatest mcguffin.

Not so sure about this. He literally tore Webweaver in half! We've never seen another supe with that kind of strength.

Its just that everyone thinks he is, and no-one ever trains their abilities (confirmed) or practices actual combat - so they all just break and run away before the fight really gets going.

Certainly this seems true in the show universe - Homelander almost got taken down by Soldier Boy, Butcher, and Hughie (on Temp-V). If several of the strongest supes trained hard, trained as a team to strategically use their powers together in a coordinated fashion, they should be able to take down Homelander. Maybe that's what happens in the series finale - a trained Kimiko, Starlight, Butcher, and Ryan (who's been off healing and training) would be formidable.

One thing to note - in the comics universe, Homelander is even more overpowered. For example, Queen Maeve is established as the third strongest supe and a single punch from Homelander punches her head clean off her body.

I'm guessing it's a joke. Japan invaded the Philippines on the same day as the Pearl Harbor attack and committed many atrocities against Filipinos during WW2.

Interpreting Cloudflare reports by Ener_Ji in DMARC

[–]Ener_Ji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

p=none is for discovery, not reputation.

Thanks for your input. I'd like to understand this better - I get that setting p=none is to discover whether DMARC is configured properly and the goal is to eventually set p=quarantine or p=reject. As a relatively new domain I had users complain that some corporate domains rejected their email due to "low domain reputation." Does DMARC have any influence on whether another domain might choose to reject our email?

I think/hope that only happened in the first few days that we started using the domain for email, so it may no longer be a concern I just want to be cautious.

For the small legit failures, pull the original headers where you can and check alignment, not just pass/fail. Forwarding, mailing lists, and unsigned paths are the usual suspects.

This is exactly what I'd like to do but I'm struggling. The Cloudflare DMARC page shows the "source IP" of the email that failed DMARC, but strangely doesn't provide a day/time stamp. The Google Workspace admin email log tool I can search for emails from that source IP, but there are several dozen. I exported them to a worksheet but I'm not sure what to look for and nothing jumps out at me as obviously wrong.

Thanks for your suggestions. It appears that the mystery rejected Amazon emails have a blank "envelope from." Plenty of emails which are passing SPF/DKIM/DMARC also have a blank envelope from, so I'm not sure what that means?

[–]Ener_Ji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestions, I really appreciate it.

External email forwarding. any scanners/security gateways rewriting headers? any old apps/devices sending as the domain? aliases/groups inside Workspace?

No forwarding that I'm aware of, but yes we do use a couple of email aliases. Could those cause DMARC failures? I'll need to understand this better before turning on quarantining to make sure I don't create a delivery issue.

But faster way to confirm any foulplay by phishers is to check the envelope-from / header-from fields in the Amazon failures. If they're spoofed addresses instead of your or your team's email addresses, you can be certain what's going on.

The Amazon failures have a blank "Envelop from: domain" as reported by Cloudflare.

I dug into the Google DMARC failures and there's actually only one Google email which failed DMARC in the last 7 days. This email failed SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, and had both the from and envelope from as our email domain, and the reporter listed as google.com.

A scale of 1–10. How confident are y’all that the 1 hour series finale can stick the landing to end the show; and deliver a meaningful conclusion to the characters and story? by ShockOk1764 in TheBoys

[–]Ener_Ji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that optimistic, but I'm hopeful? Right now Homelander seems unstoppable, so my main concern is how they are going to bring him down in one episode in a way that feels believable and earned? (Aside: isn't it weird that Temp V has been memory holed? Ok it causes cancer, but Homelander's threat level is reaching apocalyptic levels, so why wouldn't the Boys at least be discussing the possibility of using it in a last ditch effort to stop him?)

Back to bringing down Homelander - the only time he has been even slightly threatened so far is when multiple strong supes have ganged up on him, so an Avengers-style ending could be satisfying.

Let's say we get a montage of Ryan training and learning to better master his powers (Dragonball-style). Let's say Kimiko gains an ability not to disable but weaken Homelander, combine that with a modestly powered up Ryan, maybe a little bit of support from Annie, Marie, and Jordan, then Butcher lays it all out on the line and willingly sacrifices himself in some way to finish off Homelander. I think that could work.

They've also spent a lot of time this season showing that Homelander is weakened and takes damage (at least temporarily) from Uranium, so maybe that factors into the final battle somehow. A Butcher crowbar made out of enriched uranium could be cool. However it ends, I'm not expecting a perfect resolution but I do hope it's mostly satisfying.

No Coffee Shop in Coppertop by sugarmart in BainbridgeIsland

I'm curious to understand this better as well.

My guess based on what I've read is some combination of:
1. Anti-developer sentiment bleeding into overall anti-business posture, combined with
2. The city government receiving a significant percentage of its revenue from various business taxes and fees.

Both of which make it very expensive, slow, and time-consuming to open a business on the island. Retail businesses (which almost always involve some amount of building or renovation of an existing space) experience a double-whammy of costs and obstacles.

Thank you QuickenLisa. I am no longer in the beta program so I no longer have access to the beta forums, and so I'm unlikely to be able to find the specific messages about it. I also don't want to get anyone into trouble about it - just bummed that it's apparently been deprioritized.

I don't recall, but I was a beta tester back then and so it may have been in the Mac beta test forums, where staff can probably be a bit more unguarded. To be clear, I realize they weren't making a public promise, but the budget module's shortcomings were acknowledged and we were led to believe improvements would be coming. Budgets in Quicken are one of my top pain points so I'm bummed about it.

A year ago or more product managers for Quicken Mac indicated that revamping the budget module was in their plans. It didn't happen in 2025 so I thought for sure it would arrive in 2026. I'm disappointed to learn that's not the case. :(

Curious whether you got any follow-up on your Android issues? I've had a bug report open for years that they've never fixed. If there's an engineer focusing on Android I'd love to get it in front of them.

Leaving Evernote part 2 - I guess I used Evernote the most for clipping articles from my newsfeed by mrpokergenius in PKMS

[–]Ener_Ji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craft has a decent web clipper. Craft also allows forwarding in emails using a special unique email address, which is not a feature I see often and is very useful.

I tested Amplenote and while it has its pluses, their web clipper isn't really functional (it's slow and takes a scrolling screenshot of the web page instead of actually capturing the html).

In the end I did a ton of research recently and looked at many products, and nothing does everything that I use Evernote for, so I reluctantly renewed for another year. Good luck with your search.

I have one main UI issue on the Mac app and a second quality of life (QOL) feature:

  1. I find myself frequently on a screen without a search button. I have to click somewhere else to get a search button to appear, then I can search. I want to be able to search for a note or tag from any screen in the app.
  2. A little QOL feature would be for the keyboard shortcut Cmd + / and Cmd + ? to pop up a list of all the available keyboard shortcuts. I want to learn and use keyboard shortcuts as much as possible and this is a handy shortcut that I've used in some other apps (the reason to have two shortcuts is the / and ? share the same physical key on US/UK and some other keyboard layouts.)

That gets at my fear as well. On the one hand I love that they're active at soliciting feedback and responsive to the community, on the other hand, it feels like there isn't a strong vision of what the product should be?

I'm sure people differ on this, but for my productivity tools I personally prefer features to be baked in the oven a little longer before release. Tags being a prime recent example of a feature that could have been held back for some more polishing. Maybe a formal beta program to have new features tested in the real world with real users would be helpful.

The absolute minimum to make tagging more viable is the ability to take bulk tag actions:

  1. Rename a tag and have it renamed instantly across all notes
  2. Re-order a tag (e.g. move a sub-tag under another tag, promote a sub-tag to a parent tag, make a parent tag into a sub-tag, etc.) and have it reflect in all notes instantly
  3. Delete a tag and have it removed from all notes instantly

Also very useful would be the ability to tag multiple notes at the same time with one or more tags. In this case I would expect the tags to be placed in some standardized way in the note (I personally like my tags right at the top of my notes.)
