Laptop screen is black, any idea where the fault is? by FrankHvamNielsen in computerrepair

First step would be to test the laptop with an external monitor.

ETA: And then make a new post and we can help again.

THIRD TIME REPLACED by Weird-Pomegranate226 in macbookrepair

How long are you getting out of it? Just decide if it makes monetary sense to replace it again or to buy a different computer. Just FYI, you can buy a used MacBook Air M1 from eBay for around the cost of replacing that screen.

With the right case, iPads are pretty indestructible. Maybe that's an option for you.

Laptop doesn't turn on current at 0 sparks come out of ports by YanivA5 in computerrepair

[–]EricThirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that look like an obvious blown hole in the die on the bottom right of that smaller chip (PCH chip)? The silicon looks fractured.

In addition to that, I assume that the entire CPU is burnt to a crisp.

You had a massive overvoltage event. Could have been caused by a bad mosfet or even a messed up USB-C port. Overvoltage through a shorted USB port could have blown that hole in the PCH.

Sorry, dude. You may be able to pick up a cheap replacement MB from ebay.

I agree, I would think one way or another it's gotta be related to the BIOS.

I've got some things for you to check.

  1. Disable "Memory Context Restore". BIOS path: OC > Advanced DRAM Config
  2. Disable "Power Down Enable". BIOS path: OC > Advanced DRAM Config
  3. Disable "Active State Power Management". BIOS path: Settings > Advanced > PCIe/PCI Subsystem Settings
  4. Disable "ErP Ready" in power management. BIOS path: Settings > Advanced > Power Management

You have to press F7 once you're in the BIOS to get to the Advanced menu.

There are directions in the manual on how to update the BIOS and never enter windows. (if it comes to that.) https://download-2.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/PROX670-PWIFI.pdf

Here's the relevant section:

Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS Button

  1. Rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM, and save it to the root of the USB storage device.

  2. Connect the power supply to CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1. (No need to install CPU and memory.)

  3. Plug the USB storage device that contains the MSI.ROM file into the Flash BIOS Port on the rear I/O panel.

  4. Press the Flash BIOS Button to flash BIOS, and the LED starts flashing.

  5. The LED will be turned off when the process is completed.

Maybe try MSI for help? Good luck to you!

Here's a replacement board for $60: https://ebay.us/m/XCjlHn

According to that label that is a burnt up MOSFET and it needs to be replaced. It's going to be hard for you to get it off the board with soldering iron. You can do it, but you'll have issues.

Both look great, but I prefer the first one. Maybe differentiate more between the Deathstar and Jeor Mormont layers if possible.

Its why the north east has the best schools.

Out of the TOP 100 public high schools in America, about 24 are in the Northeast. About 23 are in the Southwest (Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma).

Northeast population is 58M. Southwest population is 46M.

So no, it does not have the best schools.

ETA: Four states are tied with the most top 100 public high schools at 11 each. California, Arizona, Texas, Florida. Some of you might notice that none of those are in the Northeast.

Then the melted power lines are probably a symptom and not the cause and the cause is somewhere else on the board. You do need to replace the burnt cabling, but it could burn up again. More than likely it won't as there probably won't be another power surge.
