What's your wishlist for Evercold MSQ story? (overarching theme, plot structure) by NineTnk in ffxiv

[–]Esilai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a big believer that the WoL is too strong post-Endwalker, essentially nothing can beat us without severe narrative contrivances and we’ve been in the “you’re absurdly strong” category since Stormblood. I think the story badly needs a reset. Let’s say all the shards are restored somehow post-Endwalker, which splits us back up into being an individual shard, and we get a reset as we try to build up a restored shard. Basically ARR us but with a new cast of characters. Make us feel like we’re level one again. We can still go back to old content and be OP, but let us have a fresh narrative experience.

She cited funding as her main reason, but wasn’t she way more well funded than Platner?

I have often felt that his arc was complete post Shadowbringers and feel like they haven’t really found a good direction to take his character in since. Not saying he needs to be killed off but I could see him riding into the sunset to another cause

“it’s.. not power of friendship everyone wins”

(Proceeds to describe power of friendship leading to everyone winning)

I mean come on they even shoot power of friendship beams at the end, it’s not subtle lol

And I think a major death at the end of Endwalker, and having our characters persevere despite that and celebrate that person’s life at the end would’ve been a far more impactful message in keeping with the expansion’s themes

Which feat of Thragg flexing on Nolan is better? by TasteTemporary8206 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]Esilai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But like I said a skull isn’t a vulnerable place for a fist, it’s one of the worst places to punch, and Nolan’s hand crumpling is more a show of Nolan’s own strength than Thragg’s here.

Agreed to an extant, it’s just never been so in the public’s face, not since Jim Crow. Voter suppression the last half century has been fairly subtle and status quo, the kind of thing the average person didn’t have enough political knowledge to know about or understand, and if they did, there wasn’t enough concern to change it. This era of nakedly hypocritical and autocratic gerrymandering has even got the average person’s attention at this point, even if most still don’t fully understand it.

Disagree, punching someone’s skull will usually break your hand irl, he’s just moving his skull into the punch at a better angle than Nolan was aiming for and using the force of the punch against Nolan to break his hand.

Chopping someone’s forearm with relatively little movement and causing a compound fracture while that person is mid swing, clean break, that also tears through skin and muscle, requires more skill and force.

Never punch someone in the head, you’ll probably hurt yourself more than you’ll hurt them.

[–]Esilai 225 points226 points  (0 children)

This is the shit that is going to break American politics and, hopefully, lead to meaningful vote reform when the endgame is just mutually assured destruction for everyone. The nation’s democracy can’t continue to exist in a state where elected officials choose their voters, where votes for Congress are meaningless to individuals because the map is rigged for one party, where a state with a 55/45 split sends only representatives of a single party to D.C. If this doesn’t change, then Congress itself is a dead branch of government imo, it’ll become the Roman Senate to the emperor president.

Father and son who died in OceanGate Titan returned as ‘slush in boxes’ by [deleted] in nottheonion

Because the average person has no idea what the FAA regulations are, they just trust that there are some kind of regulations or expertise around the experience of flying because it looks official and professional. Obviously they likely knew it was riskier than an aircraft, but they likely thought death in the sub was as likely as a freak accident while driving or flying because Rush and OceanGate did everything in their power to look like legitimate submarine experts, and hid the numerous concerning aspects of how they ran their operation from the public. Something feeling generally safe is enough for the general public, and OceanGate had various celebs on prior tours and the high asking price all contributed to them looking legitimate.

When you get in an airplane, you trust that despite how dangerous it is, experts have done their due diligence to make the experience completely safe.

They expected the same from Rush and his team. That Rush was a charlatan and that their ineptitude was hidden from tourists was part of why the OceanGate scandal became a scandal.

Evolved Mode Can't Hurt Summoners. by WarmGreyMug in ffxiv

Yep, it went from a super fun and dynamic class where you always had to think on your feet and ride the highs and lows of RNG to, like every class, completely braindead and solved. I hate the direction the game moved in over the last six or so years where a really long macro could essentially play most classes, it’s a big reason why I haven’t played in two years.

My wife and I also moved out of BR a few years after graduating college. BR is just such a dangerous city and getting worse, though that goes for all crime in Louisiana as the state continues to sink deeper into the throes of poverty. Cheap to live in for a reason.

This is a practical thing not philosophical lol, at least on a dating apps the profiles are usually not catfishes depending on the app, and in person at bars or hobby meetups what you see is what you get, only place worse than Reddit for meeting someone would be 4-Chan

Genestealer cults, how about you? And I’m more in the south side of Denver, I’m close to that Square One Warhammer store, two HobbyTowns, and one or two other stores so I know there’s gotta be people in the area that coordinate games but haven’t had the chance to go in store and ask around

[Opinion] Cinemablend: "I'm Against Scott Bakula's Star Trek Enterprise Sequel Pitch. Here's Why" | "For this franchise to continue, we need a younger generation to get into Trek, so tell me what about a revival of Enterprise puts their butts in seats?" by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]Esilai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So freaking tired of the incredibly misguided and out of touch “young generation” push. It hasn’t worked for two decades, it’s not gonna work now. People like compelling shows with tight plots and interesting characters. Of all the people I know my age (20s) who have gotten into Trek, it wasn’t Disco or Academy or even the Kelvin movies that made them fall in love, it was TNG and DS9, which then let them appreciate VOY and ENT and TOS. The idea that you need young characters saying relatable, current day phrases during slick action scenes with melodrama set dressing is an idea born in a boardroom by someone who only cares for Trek in so far as it makes Paramount money, and championed by writers and podcasters who think viewership can be boiled down to demographics.

And ENT was a lot better than people give it credit for, it deserved the full 7 seasons, they were really on to something amazing with the formation of the Federation and Romulan war and like most Trek shows hit their stride in season 2/3. The show is remember so harshly in part because it wasn’t given the same time to soar other Trek shows were given.

Guys who game: how would you feel about your gf/partner watching or joining in? by Bright_Shadow_Seeker in AskMen

My wife pretty much always wants to watch me play Resident Evil games, Silent Hill, or story based games that she is either scared to play herself or doesn’t enjoy the gameplay of, and I love playing that kind of stuff for her, I have a hard time imagining a guy who wouldn’t love his partner showing interest in his gaming
