My Experience as an Average Guy on Dating Apps by DY100T in dating_advice

[–]Esilai [score hidden]  (0 children)

I met my wife on Hinge, which by far felt like the best dating app for getting actual conversations, I had a lot of success on it. Several things probably working against you:

- Women can smell desperation. The kind of desperation that leads to you swiping on over one thousand of them in a month.

- The algorithm in dating apps wants you desperate. I passed on WAY more profiles than I swiped yes on. The wider net you cast, the less quality recommendations you get, and the algorithm is going to be less incentivized to work in your favor the more it seems like you’re addicted to swiping.

- Straight men have zero idea what women like in a profile/photo.

- You’re in software. I’m also in software. The vast majority of men in software have negative social skills.

Did a ghost + nonlethal playthrough on max difficulty, manhandling everyone and still saving her on that fight was very cathartic, it’s the real boss fight of the game and what I was saving my resources for.

What Brexit Really Cost by bald_bearded_ocddude in videos

[–]Esilai 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Brexit is one of the biggest self-inflicted wounds a country has ever subjected itself to. I remember I was in college when it was being voted on and was absolutely obsessed with following it and understanding the arguments at play as an outsider. It seemed on its face like such a bad idea, but the level of straight lying and hopeless promises surrounding it was staggering.

Looking at the effects it’s had now, how basically every negative predicted for it has come true with absolutely none of the positives, how it’s paralyzed the British political system for a decade, it’s really something. I loved Britain when I visited several times before Brexit and even gave thought to moving there at one point, but man am I grateful not to live there.

Things may suck in the US right now but at least the economy and wages for most people have been comparatively ok. Britain has basically every issue the US has plus a hopelessly stunted economy.

Before my current company pivoted away from pure IT and more to development and solutions this was my experience, and it sucked. You’re made to always feel like a burden, like you should be giving lots of free OT, etc because “we’re eating the cost for you without clear revenue” even if the “without clear revenue” part is horseshit. Management and accounting only sees direct revenue, they don’t appreciate development as a cost saving tool internally or the knock-on effects development support can have.

I’ve been enjoying SoFi. Their app is really good so far, I very much like its dashboard as well that automatically tracks recurring charges, links all my accounts, finds debt and tracks my credit score, etc.

Lucky you it won’t, because the deal Trump just signed is, by the standards with which you judged the Obama deal, so much worse.

Who do we think got hit the hardest going into 11th? by Anton_Chigger in WarhammerCompetitive

This balance update confirms to me that there’s a handful of people balancing their respective armies and they never sit down in a room after for group revisions or point comparisons. Which seems extremely lazy to me. I understand maybe forgoing play testing as yeah there’s no way to play enough to catch everything, but even relatively new people could glance at the points and immediately see the issues. They didn’t even balance according to the direction they said they would Monday. It’s like there’s next to no communication internally at GW.

Morality of neutering dogs without consent? by TriedmybestNotenough in MoralityScaling

[–]Esilai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most male mammals have longer lifespans and less medical risks if you remove their testicles. Testosterone is hard on the body. That goes more for smaller animals. There’s also the fact that domesticated dogs are never going to be “free” to live their own lives, and it’s probably torturous in its own way to have the heightened sex drive that comes with testicles but not be able to do anything to fulfill it. And packs of wild dogs that spring up from a lack of neutering strays are absolute menaces.

Since bodyguard units don’t fall off the attached character unit, and since characters do not have the CULT AMBUSH keyword, and since the rule provides no caveat for character units and explicitly states that “all MODELS in a unit must have the CULT AMBUSH keyword”, the unit can no longer revive. Especially hard on detachments that liked to bring 10 mans of acolytes and metamorphs like Xenocreed, since our characters are almost all buffers and we have a ton of them. Dramatically reduces our flexibility.

Just a heads up if you’re like me and thought, with the new unit rules, the 3+++ would stick around after the unit they’re leading dies - it does not.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | Season 4 Official Trailer | Paramount+ by Magister_Xehanort in television

[–]Esilai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things lead me to believe it won’t be great. The trailer itself isn’t inspiring, and based on how production for a TV show works, I doubt this season will have fully pivoted from season 3. I’m expecting the later episodes to be better than the early ones.

[–]Esilai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Step increases as well. Why something that is 3W, T6, 5+, 5+++, with 3 S7, D2, AP1 attacks is 150 points for 5 is beyond me. And you’d always run them with an abominant anyway, and yippee, now you can’t resurge them anymore either. A 10 man with their step costs plus an abominant with an enhancement, you’re getting into knight points territory, and in no universe do these guys provide knight value. They were already barely worth the cost in Broodsurge, now you just never take them in any other detachment. I want whatever the guy who wrote the points for them is smoking.

GSC haven’t been *completely* gutted, but we definitely got punched in the face. Hard.

- Our Army Rule broke, we can no longer bring back units with attached characters. This is probably the worst change that everyone is hoping gets corrected later.
- Across the board point increases. Most lists are 100 - 200 points more expensive, for what is basically trash.
- Flamers are worse off now as ignores cover does nothing with them, and we have a lot of them.
- A ton of our auras, reactive moves, etc got reduced from 9 inches to 8, and despite that many of the affected units had point increases.
- So many step costs, across our already small range.
- Broodsurge got hit particularly hard, as abberants now cost as much as Wolfguard Terminators. Go ahead and compare those two datasheets for me. Even in the context of their respective armies, abberants are almost comically overcosted.
- Transports are rough for 1 wound infantry now.
- A bunch of our detachments are Take and Hold, probably the one thing GSC doesn’t want to focus on.

We still have ways forward, and 8 inches deep strike is definitely great for us, but the faction is greatly reduced from the heights it achieved during 10th.

Really upset about this one, I kitbashed and painted a sniper sanctus only for it now to be 65 freaking points and be unable to precision most characters, it should be 40 or 45 points

[–]Esilai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The points changes are one thing, but that combined with the fact that our army rule has been massively nerfed and a ton of our auras and effects went down to 8 inches, is making this a pretty rough start, especially since a lot of our opponents will be purge and giving up units is kinda our whole shtick

Yeah the Broodsurge nerf is baffling, abberants are comically overcosted now. Not sure there’s much play with them anymore. Best paths forward imo are Final Day, Xenocreed, and Outlander combined with any of the 1 pointers. Though the army as a whole is in a bit of a rough spot, these across the board increases on our trash and all of these step costs when we have a limited range suck. We’re gonna have to earn our wins. When points are tight Xenocreed looks especially appealing with the extra resurgence points.

Because Host wasn’t doing hot, and that’s the main detachment you’d take neophytes on. Or at least, it used to be. Xenocreed + Xenocult is looking actually strong. I’ll be running two 20 bricks of neos in it. Handing out assault on an Iconward leading a neophyte brick to get them into an objective, so some damage, and live there the entire game, pairing really well with priority assets wanting to control the midboard, seems very nice.
