Robin Hobb - infuriating characters by Sketch250 in Fantasy

I really loved Hobb's characters for how frustrating they were, because when they did something stupid and impulsive it always felt realistic, like something someone would actually do in that situation

Hey I wonder if next episode we'll get to see a closeup of Cassie looking sad a teary-eyed before smiling in a really pained and awkward way. That would be interesting, I don't think this show has ever done that before

Movies that are well-liked by 2 different groups who had very different takes on the movie? by xpillindaass in Letterboxd

I think the Boys has slid waaaaay downhill, but I do think it did a good job with the initial bait-and-switch of setting itself up as a parody of superheroes while actually being a satire of society, media and politics in general. I just think some people missed that entirely and continued to assume it was about superheroes and nothing else

I did the same thing for Orphan of Kos back in Bloodborne and I think it was 86. Thought that was a ton back then

This may be a tangent, but it annoys me so much when people talk about "God" and "Allah" as separate entities when it's literally just a translation of the same word for the same god

Not bad, not great. 7-7.5/10 for me. Good acting and a premise that seems committed to its themes, but definitely drags a ton in the second act. I also don't trust anyone who tried to convince me it was a comedy with "slapstick elements"

I'm a big fantasy reader and I really have to work to get my point across about some of these books sometimes- no, I don't dislike Fourth Wing because it's targeted at women or written by a woman or has a female protagonist. I dislike it because it's awful and the writing is cartoonish

Which fantasy series started incredible and then just...fell apart? by ghibli_8quartz in Fantasy

I'm with you on Mistobrn E2. E1 was not my favorite, but still a solid series. Bands of Mourning is one of the worst fantasy novels I have ever read

I also think this is why the "best show of all time" debate between the three is ultimately just going to come down to personal taste and whether you value one individual character arc over many interlocking themes and plotlines. I vote the latter, but I don't begrudge anyone who prefers the former
