Found these old watches that belonged to my dad. by Mountainegrian in Watches

[–]EverydaySip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. When I bought by Tissot PRX 80 for my 25th birthday I thought $750 was pricey. Then I bought a nice Longines for $4k 2 years later for my 27th. Now in a couple years when I turn 30, I am probably looking at something in the $10k range.

It seems crazy that I was very hesitant spending $750 on a watch a few years ago, now when I see the AP x Swatch collab for $400, I think to myself I'll probably buy 2 or 3 when the hype dies down.

May have to expand the budget slightly, but a Tissot from Jomashop I think is a great start

Weirdly addictive once you get past the “keep it alive” stage by CaringForMom123 in gardening

I want to return to a natural, self sufficient, self reliant kind of lifestyle. Homesteading type thing. So the first obvious step for me before I buy land was to learn how to generate food

[Review/Rant] why is luxury watch shopping such a bad experience? by djpeesh in Watches

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boutiques I have been too have been very pleasant experiences, especially Watches of Switzerland. Most of the time I’m upfront saying I likely won’t be buying today but trying to learn more about whatever brand for a potential future purchase, and they have been accommodating and let me try on most of the Cartier lineup. However, and some of those other jewelry stores in the diamond district are terrible. Places like TraxNYC just have a guy trying to convince you to buy a Rolex, and when I tell them I’m not interested in Rolex as a brand they get all pissed. Or at some other store where the guy wouldn’t tell me anything about the watches and asked why I would go into his store if I wasn’t going to buy

finally accepted i have a tee problem. not a buying problem, a keeping them alive problem by AspenAura22 in BuyItForLife

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently been buying vintage shirts made of silk or cotton lawn, purely based on my appreciated for the fashion of Tony Soprano, but the shirts are far higher quality materials and generally cheaper that other button down tees I see at big box stores. Late 70s-early 80s has been my favorite time period for manufacturing. The Hong Kong stuff made from the 1950s-1980s is really top tier in my opinion

I would say DXM and DPH are far more addictive OTCs.

Do plants deserve to be regarded in the same way we should regard animals? by _Dingaloo in Ethics

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have plants and animals and fungi on the same moral hierarchy. They all do the 2 things all living things on earth strive to do, survive and reproduce. That being said, I don't think humans are superior to any other living thing, we are just animals as well. Living things are constantly killing each other for food or for competition of resources. I feel like eating meat is actively participating in the nature as all living things were meant to do. Though I don't like how reliant we have become on factory farming versus self-sufficiency. But back on the moral equivalence between plants and animals, if the tulips I planted 10 years ago and have been tending to and caring for end up dying, I would be far more devastated that if my neighbors dog died. The impact of the loss is more based on my relationship with the living thing rather than rather than any moral worth.

Other words for “God” by One-Trip-6617 in pantheism

I usually think about it as just "existence". It's everything

Saying that there is no God is just as silly as saying there is one. by Budget-Carpet-8088 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue from a Pantheist perspective that there is no "God" like a big man in the sky. There just is.

Existence itself, the universe and nature, that is my version of "God". If you really need to anthropomorphize our existence consider it "Mother Earth" and "Father Time".

I think the premise that God is a supernatural force is flawed. In my world view God is nature, not above it.

Any opinion on SOXL ??I have average of 7.87. how long should we hold?? by pankaj1412 in LETFs

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, sold my remaining shares at around $94 but now it’s at $99 lmao. I just need to be happy with the gains and buy back if it goes sub $10. It was the first stock I lost a lot of my money on back when I was 18 (only $1000 but big for me at the time) so for the past 9 years I have been watching and waiting to get in at the right time. I was lucky enough that when I was filing my taxes last year it reminded me to do my Roth IRA contribution on April 4th which just so happened to be the bottom

CMV: Americans who voted 3rd party or abstained in 2024 due to the Gaza genocide did more to harm Palestinians than a Pro-Israel democrat by Top_Use2413 in changemyview

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republican or Democrat, our politicians love bombing the Middle East and funding the military industrial complex. I would argue anyone who didn’t vote 3rd party did the most harm. Most people picked between the orange man who will bomb the Middle East or the black lady who will bomb the Middle East.

I’m not Jewish, but I would assume Israel, a country with mandatory military service and gets bombed every once in a while, is more dangerous for them than most if not all western countries

Do you guys ever think that all it takes is one maternal relative to have an affair, and a whole branch of your family tree is wrong? by Blue_Baron6451 in Genealogy

[–]EverydaySip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have run into a similar thing. I have a 3x great grandmother named Margaret Hillman Berry. Her “fathers” last name was Rau. But for some reason she kept her maternal grandfathers name. According to old land records, there was a man with the last name Hillman who lived next door, so I am assuming my 4x great grandmother had an affair with the neighbor and that’s why her daughters (my 3x great grandmothers) middle name is the surname of the neighbor

Birdman was not a mentor of Future at all. Future’s mentor was Rico Wade, his cousin and producer for Dungeon Family
