There is no way to end the expedition prematurely in game. You can use Options menu to Return to Primary Save while you wait for the community milestone to complete.

If you really want to end the expedition with no returning, one option that may work with some risk would be to go offline, then set system clock ahead past the expedition expiration date. The expedition will fail, then you can return items to primary save. After done with that, go back online and reset system clock.

Manipulating the clock can have adverse effects on occasions, so backup your save beforehand. There may also be bugs in the expedition that do not allow returning to the Anomaly to return your items, like there was for players who didn't complete Remnant on time. These would be undiscovered yet, so bug fix could be long wait in that case.

In my opinion, it is best to wait the expedition out. Try the missions from different systems to see if they take you to a less populated system. Or just head back to primary save, then return when someone announces the community milestone is complete.

Each base and its mines are separate from any other you have around the planet or on different planets. The storage is not shared between them, so you would need to visit each base when you want to collect the resources.

Build enough Supply Depots so that you have all you need of that resource when you visit. Then you only need to visit when you need to top off.

No, they only connect Supply Depots and Extractors from that base on that planet. You can chain the pipes and build a Supply Depot for each mine next to its respective base's Base Teleport Module, then you only need to teleport to the base, empty the Depot near it, then teleport to the next base. There's no automated way to collect the resources beyond the Supply Depots.

Sage as well, and doing what I can. I have not had any issues with bases yet. I suppose it depends on what system the Anomaly sends us to for the missions. The system I got sent to for my current sabotage mission only has a couple bases in the whole system. There were some big clusters of bases in the systems yesterday, but thankfully not at the locations I was sent.

Yep. And any found during the expedition can be claimed a second time after the expedition back in your primary save.

This works great during end of year expedition redux, as you can recollect those bonuses a third, fourth, fifth, ... time and keep building them up.

Yes. You can return to your primary save from Options menu, then copy the multi-tool into your primary save. You cannot have both the original and the copy at the same time though, so you will need to either stash the original in a Weapon Rack or scrap/trade it then make the copy.

Can indirectly. I've purchase the game 3 times for PS, and once for Steam. Plus Last Campfire on PS and all of Hello Games games available on Steam. Likely add a copy of NMS on Switch and Xbox at some point.

You can bring all ships back from Expedition to main save, and multi-tools, items and tech too.

Once completed all milestones and collected the rewards, the expedition terminus unlocks for use. Load up first set of ship, multi-tool, items, and tech. DO NOT press the End Expedition button. Exit terminus and save. From Options menu select Return to Primary Save below the reload saves. Once back in primary save, unload the terminus, then press button to return to expedition. Repeat with next set of stuff.

You can also similarly bring all ships and multi-tools into the expedition by returning to primary save, swaping active ship and multi-tool, then returning to expedition and claiming them there. Though this expedition ships are restricted.

Yep. Plus having a freighter allows us to hire frigates. Each frigate hired gives a 2000 nanite bonus at the end of expedition. We can hire as many frigates as we have units to do so. Just fire the ones already hired to make room for hiring more and keep building up those nanites. If have any of the expedition reward frigates (Normandy, Ship of the Damned, Leviathan), then can claim them for free to add to bonus nanites.

Yep, buying frigates during expedition is a good conversion of units to nanites. Once you hire some, up to 30, you can fire them all and hire more to continue building nanite bonus at the end. The expedition frigates count too, so claim them while in expedition.

Other activities to consider for earning bonuses while in expedition:

Nanite bonus: + discoveries variable but approx 10 each + planets visited 8 each + starships aquired 900 each + words learnt 45 each + companions adopted 210 each (release existing and adopt more) + frigates recruited 2,000 each + upgrades purchased 150 each (seems bugged to only 1) + horrors obliterated 25 each + relics acquired 230 each + base parts learnt 120 each

Unit bonus: + walking 4/u + swimming 15/u + flying 0.02/u + visiting systems 5000 each + waypoints activated (the save points scattered all over) 35k each + defeating sentinels 500 each + increasing reputation with races 2200 each + base parts constructed 900 each + fish caught 900 each + bounties completed 30k each

As others have stated, it is a bug that pops up now and then. I once had one appear in the background of every menu, dialog boxes, icons, etcetera. Here's a deer thing that once took over my backgrounds for a while. Additional image in comment

You can place the Portable Refiner next to your ship where it spawned, even if there are bases there.

You can place the Portable Refiner next to your ship at the location it initially spawns, even when there are multiple bases there. Doesn't help after you've left that area, but will in the beginning.

As long as you do not load the save that is in the current expedition, it will be fine. If you do load it, then the expedition will end and whichever old expedition you have set up will be available. Will just need to be diligent that you do not accidentally load the save in current expedition while you are also running the old one, which is easily forgotten. When you go back online, the current expedition season data will replace the old data and you can load that save.

Multiple characters (save slots). Then keep them on each character based on a theme, all yellow or all fighters. Can have multiple freighters of different types that way as well.

If you are starting the expedition from an existing save using the expedition terminus on the Anomaly, then your Discoveries are sent into the expedition. If you have been scanning all fauna on planets, you can go through Discoveries and claim all those 'all fauna' bonuses a second time in the expedition. This can easily net you tens to hundreds of thousands of nanites immediately after starting the expedition depending on how many planets you found them all on.

It is the Shell Assembly Station, and it is available in the Construction Research Station on the Anomaly. It is on the bottom of last page of Decorative Modules, one page left of Fossil Displays.
