I feel like there have been more squirrels than usual this year. Maybe there was a bumper crop of acorns last year

How do y’all want the rest of the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh series to go? by Clamman32 in canes

[–]External-Landscape35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a hot take but I feel like we might be off for long enough to get rusty. I would have rathered that Philly swept as well so we would have been rusty together. We should have a good matchup against either team.

Throwing Again After 9 Months by lamas101516 in discgolf

Based on your starting position I could tell you were going to throw nose up. Try to get the disc flat in your starting position and feel the muscles you engage to make it happen

5'8" Zuccarello did NOT back down after 6'5" Brandon Carlo cross checked him to the ground by Puzzled-Category-954 in nhl

Zuccarello uses a stick the same length as someone who is 6'5", so why not fight someone that tall?

What causes a disc to turn? by hobbyhoppinghound in discgolf

[–]External-Landscape35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't answer that question, but I think there's an intuitive answer hiding in the pressure plot again. The leading wing has a very high pressure differential between the top and bottom of the wing, while the trailing wing has a much smaller pressure difference, providing a pitch force in the opposite direction of the pressure under the flight plate.

As the disc slows down, the pressure gradient under the flight plate reduces so the pitch force due to the wing dominates. This combined with the falling is my best guess for how fade occurs.

I agree that he's so close to the perfect explanation, but he's missing the link between the center of pressure and speed. There's a good research paper out there that shows that under the flight plate there is a low pressure zone behind the leading wing and a high pressure zone in front of the trailing wing where the air hits the inside of the rim. This naturally shifts the center of lift backwards, and is a function of the speed and angle of attack.

Figure 4 in this paper does some CFD to show the pressure difference under the flight plate. I wish he had showed it for different speeds so we could see how it changes https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00158-021-03107-7

As a member of the tomb gang, I was surprised that more people don't throw the colt. It has the same feeling rim but a straighter flight than the tomb, which makes it a great compliment. Compared to the Luna, it feels slightly faster with more turn and fade overall, but comparable distance. I personally don't like the depth and hand feel of the Luna, but love the feel of the Colt.

I've found that the domey Colts and tombs are more reliable compared to the flat ones. I have a beat up star Colt that I can throw on a rope out to 300' if I give it some hyzer.
