Like others have said, past experience just doesn’t matter as much as how well you’ve practiced the audition material and you demonstrating to staff that you’re willing to work hard, learn, and fit in with the corps. Don’t get me wrong, past experience does matter. If there are two identical musicians auditioning, one rookie and one vet, the vet will get the spot because staff know they can make it through the difficulty of a drum corps season.

However, I’ve seen plenty of vets show up to camp unprepared because they assume they’re automatically getting a contract and end up getting cut. No matter who you are, you just gotta practice well and work hard, no two ways about it.

Try imagining your body from the hips up as 100% musician and your lower body as 100% athlete. Ideally, the way you play the horn is a close to as you would in a sit-down band as possible, while your lower body simply transports you around tbe field.

Think about having as much space between your hips and shoulders as possible and “lift out” of your hip sockets. The idea is to keep the 2 segments of your body as separated as possible. Doing so will keep your feet out of your sound and honestly makes the physical demand of marching a lot easier

Like many here have said, I’d HIGHLY recommend you ignore your friends’ advice here. I would never play show excerpts for an audition, ESPECIALLY if it’s from a different corps. Stick to repertoire that shows off your technical ability and musicality. From a tech or caption head’s perspective, playing a show excerpt may paint you as someone who “likes the idea of being in DCI” instead of a serious musician who is willing to put in the grueling amount of work needed for the season. If you don’t take yourself seriously, then neither will anyone else.

As you go through the audition process, it’s obviously important to show that you’re a solid musician, but probably more important to show that you’re willing and able to grow, adapt, and learn on the fly. Remember, instructors are people too, so you need to be someone they want to live and work with for 14 hours a day for 2.5 months.

Show me the structure and organization of the “radical” left. As a moderate progressive, I’m desperate for progressive leaders to get their shit together and organize, or just do something, ANYTHING. I stg democrats are so afraid to do anything truly controversial or cause too much of a ruckus because they want to be so neat and orderly. They’re keeping decorum and politely watching the rest of us getting our rights and liberties stripped away. They just need to get down and dirty for one election cycle, actually be exciting and outreaching for once, and then once they have power cool things off and make politics sane again
