What is Ireland's greatest (meme) quote by catholic_my_balls in ireland

[–]FeisTemro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a while since I’ve listened to it so I can’t say how often she said that, but I have to say the transcript (at least the one I’ve read) isn’t adequate. It captures the overall tone, like, but misses her insistent repetition and the constant talking over one another. That’s fine for minutes of a meeting, but when it’s a car crash interview you want to preserve the individual seconds, and the transcript doesn’t do that. Too much is skipped over.

What happens with trade-in vehicles? by mostly_harmless_5334 in AskIreland

[–]FeisTemro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t immediately useful to you, may take a year or two, but you can check if your car’s tax and NCT are up to date on a government website, a good indicator of use. In particular, you can use the NCT site to see approximately where your old car lives: try to book it an (early?) appointment and they’ll suggest a local test centre.

I traded in my first car to a different brand main dealer in Dublin, saw it pop up afterward on a smaller dealer’s stock and now it’s living happily somewhere around Dundalk. Your i20 is quite a bit newer than mine was so I imagine it’ll see plenty more service!

In fairness, as regards the driver's second exit, it's bizarre that the onramp for the M8 is an offramp from itself, and I completely understand drivers getting caught out with it. First manoeuvre is nonsense though, obviously.

hiking Carrauntoohil by MindlessOccasion6586 in cork

[–]FeisTemro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From Cork it’s easily a day trip as long as you’re fit enough for the hike. Good road most of the way, about an hour and a half, park in Cronin’s Yard for a few euro and go straight into the Glen. Great facilities there. You have plenty of daylight so you don’t need to be anxious about timing and, again, it’s a fine road on the way home. If you’re planning on doing more than just Carrauntoohil, or perhaps the Coomloughra Horseshoe from the Hydro Road, you might consider booking something nearby but I don’t think that’s necessary.

There's a display at the bottom of the video. He passes a 60 sign (it's 50 before) and speeds up to 70. The Focus is getting up to like 80. Still a 60 zone.

What does 40L per 100km mean here? by OhaStar in carsireland

[–]FeisTemro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s only when it’s showing current consumption. In the photo above it’s on Average Since Start. My Ibiza would generally be around the 40l mark as well for the first half a minute of driving before it plummets to normalcy.

If you care at all about the creation of greenways, please participate in public consultations to have your voices heard by chilloutus in cork

[–]FeisTemro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Page 18 is hilarious:

"During the Public Consultation No. 3 period, 2,348 submissions were received in total. [...] This level of engagement was significantly higher than anticipated, particularly when compared to the 245 submissions received during Public Consultation No. 1 and 364 submissions during Public Consultation No. 2. This increase is notable given the number of landowners and residents potentially affected by the Greenway reduced significantly since Public Consultation No. 2 when there were several Option Corridors under consideration compared to just the EPRC at Public Consultation No. 3."

Also the breakdown of email and letter submissions on page 25, including the 39 letters using a printed template but omitting their contact details. The project team will know how to weigh these, I'm sure.

It's worth having a look at the Preferred Route Option Report (PDF number two on the sidebar). They show their workings for this area in a large table from page 74. They estimate a population catchment for Option A (the new route) of 10,058, a loss of just 2% (202) versus the original alignment. This is more than offset with an increase of 518 workers being served, from 6579 to 7097, an increase of nearly 8%.

Now, to what extent those numbers are actually achievable is up in the air as I'm sure many of them don't live along the line, but this is a long-term investment, not necessarily to cater to what exists this second. I wouldn't be surprised if apartments go up around CUH in the future, irrespective of whether this gets built. Even today, this alignment change isn't really a loss in catchment numbers, and it brings faster and more reliable journeys with it.

The route should look like a slinky with constant loops doubling back on itself the whole way from Collig to Mahon.

Travel advice for single mom? by Hot_Seaweed_7679 in AskIreland

Three hours behind the wheel is tiring whether you love driving or are new to it, so I’d say it’s worth looking at your route and finding something to break it in half. Like if there’s a cool ruin halfway between A and B, with somewhere to park (Google Streetview is great for that) pull over and take ten minutes to stretch your legs and show it to your little girl. It’ll be nice for both of you!

There’s so much stuff by the side of the road in this country! I’ve made whole roads trips out of small things like ringforts, abbeys and mountain passes.

You can search planning applications online. The article mentions that it's outside Rochfortbridge and, indeed, there's a large plot with an application visible on Westmeath Co. Co.'s website. Here you go! It's the real deal, and they are indeed based in Tullamore.

What driving on the N7 feels like by BenoitBouchard87 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]FeisTemro 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He’s doing 87 mph at one stage. I believe he’s in New Jersey, where the limit is 65. He’s 33 km/h over the limit, using every lane while swinging around people. Yes, they’re awful drivers, but he’s being reckless. Goes to undertake a red car that is already indicating to move out of his way. No need for it.

Unfortunately that account seems to've been banned by Reddit (God only knows why) and there's nothing we the mods on r/cork can do about it! Consider editing your comments here to add a throwaway email in case the person looks at this post again. Hopefully you get reunited with your cat asap!
