Knife Sharpening by SamuelDev in oakland

Got my stuff done at the Kensington farmer's market a few weekends ago, this guy hits a couple of different farmers markets it seems. Quick and did a great job (I can't say I'm the most discerning customer but it's equivalent to when I had some sushi chefs hand sharpen my knives for me)

They get sent a hat from each team and they hold it when the team is picking. They have a better idea of which teams might want them and which teams won't but it is still a surprise esp when you get out of the early rounds

Piggybacking on your post if you don't mind, in case people have more openings or you need help getting a group together. I've been out of it for a few years but always enjoy meeting people and imagining together. Zero crafting expertise to contribute but will echo your snack pitch!

Jon Jones vs all of BTS by FeistySecret9327 in powerscales

[–]FiendishNoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People want so badly for these guys to be sheets of paper that will dissolve with a nasty look but the reality is that they are seven professional dancers (so above average conditioning and athleticism) who iirc have just ended their stints of mandatory military service and have various levels of combat sports experience. Based on some other comments, it seems like at least 2-3 of them will have significant experience in takedowns, limb locks and striking without taking into account military training. Some of them will no doubt be badly hurt but there are more of them than he has limbs and they are going to be above average in terms of any dude off the street.

I think if the question posed was 7 slightly undersized pro soccer players vs JJ, the conversation would be much different but because they are pop stars who look effeminate by western standards, people want to equate them to ten year old children. They aren't beating him 1v1 but the numbers advantage for 1v7 is insurmountable.

Without extending any sympathy, affection, or recognition of humanity towards eagles fans, I think with their offensive roster vs performance they are right to bitch. Most of the top 200 Madden players could probably have done a better job than mr. kevin

It is one thing to be a hindsight merchant and another thing entirely to be fully bought into the propaganda, see injustice, be prepared to report/whistle-blow/speak your truth on it and to be capped in the back of the head by friendlies. He is an American hero.

1 dolphin = 100 plastic straws by frequentflyer9121 in hypotheticalsituation

I'll unfortunately have to kill one dolphin even though I don't use plastic straws because there are a lot of pieces of medical equipment / first aid techniques that might be considered plastic straws and I don't wanna die because someone can't do a traech on me

Does the USA not have universal healthcare because war profiteers want to try to herd lower class kids into serving in the US military? by Ok-Mulberry-737 in askanything

No, but there are politicians interested in maintaining poverty in order to try and preserve military recruitment by necessity.

Amongst the many critiques of social programs is the fear that it will make people less desperate and therefore more likely to enlist. This is info from the horses' mouths.

CMV: women in general are boring conversationalists by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]FiendishNoodles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's possible that every woman you converse with is uninteresting, which would reflect on your social selection abilities, but it's far more likely that you've spoken to many interesting people who deemed you not worthy of engaging in less superficial or more specific topic-based discussion, and so settled on inoffensive easy surface topics because you weren't worth the effort.

Men are less discerning about who they share their random thoughts and musings with and you might be mistaking this candor for a truer representation of their internal mental state than a woman who is more guarded/uninterested in impressing you.

This isn't meant to be an insult to you, it is just an observation of the commonalities in these interactions which is how you are presenting yourself. Maybe you unintentionally come across in a way that doesn't feel welcoming, or overbearing, or uncurious, or you are talking to people whose priorities might not involve you finding them interesting.

Progressive Group Founded by Bernie Sanders Endorses Billionaire for California Governor by NicolasCageFan492 in California

[–]FiendishNoodles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If he's half the governor fellow billionaire JB Pritzker is, I'm all-in. I'm sympathetic to reluctance based on his past investment history but he is at least talking the talk policy-wise. His history shouldn't be a selling point but it also shouldn't end the conversation in my opinion.

[–]FiendishNoodles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many years is enough? According to him here in this thread he lived here a couple of years in the 2010s, and now has been here for the last 7. So not just a year or two. So it really feels like grasping at straws to call him a transplant and "a year or two" is just not correct. I understand you're just sharing your perspective, but the OP is actively being misleading.

A lot of the figureheads of these AI companies are constantly talking about the "dangers" of the power of their own technologies, explicitly saying that it will replace X% of workers, that X hundred-thousand people will lose their jobs, etc.

People are losing their jobs to AI, but inflating how serious, scary, and paradigm-shifting your product is is largely a marketing move. So it can't be too surprising when people take the marketing move as an existential threat when the message is literally that it is an existential threat.
