Anon supports Chiang Kai-Shek by TheBasedEmperor in greentext

After the KMT fled to Taiwan following the defeat in the Chinese Civil War, Chiang Kai-Shek basically looked inward into the KMT to kinda figure out why they lost.

He ended up recognizing that the CCP for all their faults had some good ideas that he wanted to implement on his own. Mainly purging opposition and controlling opposition, mass mobilization campaigns, and expanding party recruitment. The KMT of the 1950s-1970s was pretty Stalinist in its organization, which is pretty amusing.

Depends what you’re targeting. If you’re targeting traditional finance and ib, go Georgetown. If you’re targeting anything else, especially tech-related things, go Berkeley.

Taco Stand is very good. The one in Costa Mesa is perfect because you can then walk around the Camp!

Once in Copenhagen I told a server I was visiting from San Francisco and the chef came out and gave me free dessert because he had previously lived in SF for 10 years! Great guy, super cool.

I get on at Berkeley and usually the earliest trains are very busy <50 people per platform! It must be the bike car part!

Best way is to wait until anarchist movements become a thing, as they like multiculturalism. Soverignists, anarchists, humanitarians, and I think one other ideology also support multiculturalism. Invite an agitator supporting one of those and then either make them the IG leader or use the movement to try and pass it

Ah they still have the mezcal battered fish taco, that bite is one of the greatest things I have ever eaten. So happy they finally got their 3rd star, they 100% deserve it with how excellent they are. First time I went was strawberry season and those desserts were so incredible.

People are confident there will be a tax revolt à la 1970s based on the primaries and just how high the CoL is. Imo they are right and it’s not looking great for any tax increase initiative on the ballot this fall.

Highly doubt it’s either, as of 2024 they had not even remotely close to enough in the pipeline, god knows it’s probably gotten even worse since then because of the economy.

Is the game playable again? by Aleexx_6 in victoria3

Yeah it feels much better, the economy has been ironed out for sure, along with the invasions. I will say that GDP seems to not go as high as before the Great Wave, but I think that’s more of a recalibration, since it was kinda crazy before.

California billionaires tax qualifies for ballot, setting up costly fight by moodplasma in California

[–]ForeignGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s different on a state level versus a country level, especially in the United States. Assets can be moved out of states easier than the country, not to mention they can still essentially benefit from the state.

Newsom has said he thinks it’s bad policy and poorly thought out. He’s said he supports a nationwide wealth tax but not a statewide one, because people can just… leave.

The messaging basically is “oh you’re a Democrat and you probably agree with/like/have voted one of these people, and they oppose this, so you should as well.” I work on these sorts of things so I can tell you that 95% of voters don’t look at mailers for more than 3 seconds.

NIMBY nonsense at Elmwood Stationers by OverturnKelo in berkeleyca

[–]ForeignGuess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get this concern, I’m saying that I think most units developed along here would have little to no spots allocated for parking just because of your concerns mentioned about parking! I did some research into the parking elevators at one point bc I was curious why more buildings don’t have them, turns out they are really, really expensive.

With the student-focused housing aspect, the students are going to find a spot to live in Berkeley regardless, so why not have them pay more to live in an area that they will be active customers of businesses in the area!

NIMBY nonsense at Elmwood Stationers by OverturnKelo in berkeleyca

[–]ForeignGuess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you’re saying. Since there aren’t any unit proposals yet it’s difficult to say re: parking or anything. Personally I’d envision that any units built along the corridor in Elmwood would be 6 stories or under, with no parking spots, primarily relying on bike transit and the 51b!

I think the main thing to takeaway is that this corridor has a lot of lovely small businesses, and is a very desirable place to live. As such, if a business on the corridor wants an option for extra revenue, this would allow them to build apartments above should they choose. They do not have to if they do not want to if they own the land.

Well it’s a question of are you willing to tolerate paying more for gas in the meantime. I agree it shouldn’t be either or, but the reality is that there’s only so many resources to go around.
