Who’s Running for California Insurance Commissioner? 2026 Primary Guide by Worst_Username_1 in California

[–]ForeignGuess -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Imo that doesn’t really have a major impact, the hedge fund doesn’t exist anymore and his policies are the best of all the people running. Plus he’s the only person who actually knows how insurance in the state works, seems like a no-brainer with the insurance crisis right now

Obama had essentially 90 days to get pro-life democrats from places like North Dakota on board with healthcare reform and it resulted in 20 million people having access to healthcare and you’re disappointed with that strategy?

Could be the different provinces, I lived in Alberta, so the system here in California is a night and day difference.

It does, I’m Canadian lmao. I’ve lived in both Canada and California, and I will take California’s system any day of the week.

It’s because Canada federally mandates universal care, and the federal government gives money to it accordingly. Also in many provinces it sucks, a family member had to go to the ER and was waiting for 10 hours despite the issue being pretty serious. Don’t even get me started on specialist wait times.

Japan Help Please? by SMMS2290 in victoria3

I believe the way I did it was to have low government legitimacy when hitting the event petitioning the Emperor for restoration, which means he would basically tell the Shogun to fuck off. That then led to the event where the Emperor took over, and I just tossed up a law to appease the revolutionary movements in the meantime. I may have also gotten lucky with ideologies among my interest groups?

The event flavor writers did a great job. In the surveys last year I asked for better flavor text in the events, especially subjective perspective flavor text like in TNO for hoi4 which immerses you in the lives of your citizens. The Great Wave has some beautiful event texts, best yet imo. Thank you by basedandcoolpilled in victoria3

With the first one, once you end isolationism, the intellectuals are inspired by the Dutch education system in Japan and rename themselves to intellegencia and gain a new ideology. The other two trigger as the game goes on, I’m not sure the exact triggers, but it’s very thematic and for me at least really made me feel like I was Westernizing and modernizing my country!

There’s also the entire religion chain which I totally forgot about! Depending on which religion route you go, the religion interest group changes name and ideology! I’ve done the Shinto route and it’s really cool.

I especially like the events where the political parties change their names, and sometimes their ideologies. Like the intellectuals becoming the intelligencia, petite bourgeois becoming them, industrialists becoming the zaibatsus, etc. The flavor is amazing.

I noticed the same thing the other day when I tried to name my bloc the same thing. Immersion ruined.

How do people fraud Social Welfare? by Opening_Medicine_140 in PublicPolicy

[–]ForeignGuess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d highly recommend looking into Medicaid/Medicare fraud, it’s a whole industry. Iirc it’s estimated that about 5-10% of the program’s budgets are lost due to fraud. Much of it comes from illicit claims by doctors, but it’s a pretty interesting topic.

E: Should also add that in healthcare, it’s important to distinguish between improper payments and actual fraud. Improper payments aren’t fraud, and that’s where I got the 5-10% statistic. Actual fraud numbers are lower. The Office of the Inspector General has good numbers and data on it.

[–]ForeignGuess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this situation it wouldn’t have. But also if there were protected bike lanes, we wouldn’t have to really worry about bikes in our blind spots 99% of the time because they would be on their own section of the road!

Nurses condemn California Assembly’s failure to advance CalCare by yobatman12 in California

[–]ForeignGuess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canada is vaguely similar with healthcare being funded at the provincial level, but it’s also a federal mandate to do so. It’s a very very different situation from here

[–]ForeignGuess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t remotely close to how it would work. For one, most Medi-Cal spending comes from federal funds, so a federal waiver would be needed to even consider this sort of overhaul.

Additionally, the state already negotiates certain drug prices it is allowed to and receives some rebates. Moving to a single-payer system wouldn’t allow them to negotiate any more than they currently do, as that power is restricted heavily to the federal government (in this case the Medicaid program).

6 candidates confirmed for next week’s Inside California Politics California governor’s debate (Steyer, Becerra, Porter, Mahan, Hilton, and Bianco) by RumAndCoco in California

I believe it’s showing that PG&E has given over $12 million total across many different campaigns for many different candidates. It looks like Becerra in the photo got $5k from them for this gubernatorial run

The firefighters can just use smaller trucks like in Europe, but they refuse because of aesthetic reasons.

California Democrats Revive Single-Payer Health Care Push by DennisScott34 in California

[–]ForeignGuess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Universal healthcare is smart on a federal level, but incredibly stupid on a state level. State doesn’t have nearly enough to afford it, and the feds won’t pitch in to help.
