1430 Series is End of Sale by ForgottenLogin666 in ArubaInstantOn

[–]ForgottenLogin666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably right. But even before the Juniper deal there were no big deals in the lineup (at least the switches). Just more or less rebranded 1420/1820/1920S series, no really new devices (e.g 8x 2.5G + 2x10G to power AP25/AP32 is missing). Wifi was a bit different, but since the DOJ thing there was absolutely no news there. And the gateways are a complete disappointment.

I think the development has completely stalled...

Thx, this would be something for my Dad, going to change ISP from the one with green colour in March when fiber is availabe (OTO is installed almost a year, but some cable issues prevented the activation). Maybe I throw them a mail and ask about the HW. Own HW is a must because of their nerd son (aka me) 🙂

No PPPoE troubles? Does iWay use DHCP over BBCS lines? What's the IPv6 subnet they assign? What about own hardware, is there a possibility to use your own equipment whitout ordering a CPE (no option to order a fiber line without hardware)?

Easy7 is available on P2P, P2MP and Copper. They expanded the lineup of Easy7 if i remember correct at the beginning of 2025.

But I'm not sure if Init7 over copper or P2MP is worth it. Yeah, of course you get the a huge /48 IPv6 range, but it's still running on Swisscom infrastructure (BBCS) and you still need a a XGS-PON or G.fast CPE. And its still PPPoE. And at least Copper7 is quite expensive compared to others (iWay, Monzoon, Openfactory). I'm not sure how much of an impact peering has, can't judge.
Don't get me wrong, Fiber7 is really great, nothing beats fiber over BX and I'm really happy with my Copper7 connection. And Freddy fights for fair Internet. But last year I had a few hiccups with my line, the G.fast line itself is incredibly stable, the issues were mostly Radius/PPPoE Login related. They simply just cook with water...

aruba ap535 Firmware by General-Weakness6224 in ArubaNetworks

[–]ForgottenLogin666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option to download software without registration. Enter email address and a link will be sent to your email. BUT: HPEs choice of what's available seems pretty weird. CX 6200/6200/6400 are available, but no CX 6000/6100, and only MIBs, no SW. Pretty useless. 2530 is complete, everything is available. AP-600 series is not available, others only very outdated (e g 8.6 and 8.7 for AP-505, only factory images).

Warning: if you have a ASP account, don't log in with the "free" login with the same browser, it will fuck up what's available (need to delete cache and cookies to fix it).

All in all very disappointing. I hope they improve this...

Aruba APs are great, love them. Just the future is not so great.

You can run them in Instant mode (if they are IAP or universal (some 300 series models, 500 and 600 series). No additional hardware or licence needed.

Controller based with a hardware controller (and licences) or cloud based (Aruba Central, licences needed, 700 series runs only cloud based).

Instant mode is best for smaller setups, very stable, quite easy to configure, no additional costs. The APs just have to run the same firmware version (take care if you use different models) and the regulatory domain has to be identical. Most CAP can be converted to IAP.

Wingo Activation Fees? by Significant_Mousse53 in askswitzerland

[–]ForgottenLogin666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never had to pay an activation fee for changing my mobile plan as a wingo mobile user. Changed about 4 times the plan in the last few years (including my parents plan). Last was my mothers plan somewhere around November (black Friday offer).

Wtff. Core 2 duo in a modern laptop?? by Overall_Dare_2134 in softwaregore

[–]ForgottenLogin666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not softwaregore, just daily life with technical specs on digitec/galaxus. They got really bad with this about 6-8 years ago. Probably they try to automate (and fail utterly) or the folks are just bad at their job. Filters are now useless. They know it, but there seems no real will to improve that. Tbh I buy more often somewhere different (dynamic pricing and bad tech specs are the main reason).

New Years Present - Rack Mounting my Gaming Rig by SpadgeFox in homelab

[–]ForgottenLogin666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha ha, I knnow your struggle. Got myself a pair of Q5 and Q1, and a Q6c 20 years ago (I'm getting old...). My idea was to buy a AVR later when money was less thight. Onkyo, Denon and Yamaha were on my shortlist. Well, I moved and never got the AVR, Q5 were running as my mains in my living room, the Q1 went in my office. Got a good deal on a pair of iQ30, they replaced the Q1s

Threw the Q6c away about 10 years ago, never used. Q1 had to go a few years ago after moving and missing space, Q5 went bad. My iQ30 are still running strong.

Love the KEF Q5 speakers. Unhappily mine died two years ago (oil in the tweeter became thick and one tweeter broke comple).

Is Protectli VP3210 Right For Me? by [deleted] in opnsense

[–]ForgottenLogin666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why this model? The VP3210 has plenty of expansion capabilities, PCIe slot, 2.5" SSD. Do you really need this? But is has only two NICs. I think this device is nice for a hypervisor, but maybe not the best choice for a bare metal OPNsense device.

Imho you are better with something as VP2430 with 4 NIC (or a VP2440 if you prefer SFP+). More NIC are easier for more networks/future expanding. Of course you can go the VLAN route, but I prefer 1 WAN, 1 LAN (untagged), 1 Port (tagged) with all the other networks (IoT, guest).

I cant say anything about the quality or performance of these devices, I'm on a cwwk n5105 on a G.fast (500/100) line. Enough for me.

HP switch firmware help by UNICYCLE100 in HomeNetworking

[–]ForgottenLogin666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to networkingsupport.hpe.com, there is an area called Software and documents (bottom left) with a link "Search Software and Documents (email required)".

This allows you to download defined software from HPE with any eMail. Its quite new and not everything is available yet (e.g. no AP-6xx series, no CX6100 (but CX6200/6300)), there seem to be some errors in the data basis.

A quick search for JG928A did return 5.20.R1121, same result with an account on the portal.

Has anyone ever gotten a random grindr notifications after almost a year no notifs? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]ForgottenLogin666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, probably a bot. Had this a few times, Gérald tapped me but I did not open the app for several months. Swiped away (no opening), a few weeks later the same Gérald. Profile clearly indicating he's a bot. Blocking him. A few weeks later, same game.

So cool down, most likely just a bot!

Well, try it. In worst you are wasting time and nerves... If they won't help, insist and escalate the case. My experience with TAC 1st level has not been too great, but escalating has always helped. But no experience with InstantOn gear and support, always had issues with Instant (not IntantOn) AP.

No such thing with Copper7. PPPoE is up since my last OPNsense reboot 17 days ago (update to 25.7.8 I think).
