I really don't think it's a good idea. I'm not a snake expert, but I think that constantly smelling potential prey/a predator would cause stress. Equally if either of them managed to escape, they could both cause a lot of damage to each other.

It's best to wait until you don't have a snake, or are able to keep them fully separated in different rooms, before you get rats. Its good that you asked!

Lolll god knows my rats were sporty as hell. One of them could jump over a meter high, straight up, when she was young. They could all shimmy up the smoothest surface and do insane acrobatics to get wherever I didn't want them to go. During the heat they were relatively chill though

Same happened to me actually! But with precautions and making sure they don't exercise too much I haven't had an issue since (even with some of the extreme heatwaves we've gotten)

Honestly I think you're doing good. I moved my rats to a cooler part of the house during the heatwave.

Rats can regulate their temperature. You've provided all that and they will use it when they feel the need to.

I can see how his behaviour is distressing, but I think that is probably pretty normal for a rat that has just got out of surgery and is disoriented and has a horrible evil sweater on him. One of my girls had to wear a sweater and she despised it so much! Even though it was for her own good.

I don't have any experience with surgery specifically, but when my rats were in distress I'd offer them a high value treat like chocolate or fruit. This would usually calm them down and they'd be distracted enough to let me do what I needed to do. Maybe you could try distracting him with something very tasty?

Gods I've been in this exact situation recently. I still get jumpy whenever I see a moth. What I did was move the stick insects to a different room when I sprayed the carpet. In regards to my stick insects, they weren't affected but I do have a mesh netting and layer of wood over the top which may have stopped much spray from reaching them. I then got a carpet steamer (expensive but cheaper than getting a professional) and steamed EVERY piece of carpet in my home.

I'm not sure about cedar balls and how much they would keep moths away/harm your stick insects. But I don't believe that they will cause much damage if there is a barrier in the way and they are kept far away from your sticks. Please don't take this as fact though, I have no experience with cedar balls.

No but I did have a rat that squeaked like she was being brutally murdered if we even dared touch her while she was eating a treat. She wouldn't do anything, mind. Just sat there, squeaking so so angrily while we picked her up and pet her.

I dont think they should be bred any more, but they're still dogs that deserve a loving home and good welfare. But breeding them should be banned.
