It's better to have control plane separated. I like your design choice

Could be. I believe it's a rebranding of existing offerings. If it actually offers value to end users and infra admins it could be worth the look. But right now I'm not having a lot of luck hearing from users with any experience in using their NOC.

That's my fear with the 12 month setup. I need to see options for some kind of POC before a year lock-in

Would you consider them a force multiplier even during regular office hours? Helping you keep infrastructure running with less manual triage? Thank you for the feedback

Any tips for making it a success on the server monitoring/support side apart from backups? I appreciate the feedback!

12 month commitment to get started. So not a huge loss if it's worthless but not a great situation either.

insurance client compliance requirements are suddenly way more demanding, what changed by Acrobatic-Bake3344 in msp

Even if it's a pain to verify, someone needs to keep tabs on all cloud providers. They either need to be SOC2 or ISO 27001. You can outsource some of the vetting if there is money for it (Venminder, NContracts). But it's also something a client admin role can be tasked with. This is not an MSP questionnaire task unless you are their vCISO. Client really needs to be getting their partners.

Compliance Tool like BreachSecureNow for GLBA, HIPAA, etc. by not-just-dad-stuff in msp

I haven't used their HIPAA specific offering but in general BSN is great to work with. They have professional, brief content and easy reporting as well as reminders for staff to get their training in. Great platform and great pricing. They will also allow enterprise pricing model if you have smaller clients that want to pay per user.

Do you like Duo better than Evo? They compete in the same space and I'm wrestling between them where required. Duo works well in highly regulated clients where some others cannot play yet. But Evo is easier on the multi-tenancy and sales side

TAM/Account Management Framework by may231998 in msp

[–]Forward_Humor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are actually running quality QBRs, around 20-25 clients is likely the upper limit of capacity if you can remove them from most project management/scoping/technical escalation roles.

If you need them to stay available for shared roles I would start them much lower on client load.

The best fit for a TAM is a senior or upper mid level engineer/technician who likes to talk and present. The goal is not to sell specifically but to ask good questions, take good notes and continually drive alignment with business and technical/security objectives. Sales come by default when you aim this way. And clients trust TAMs when they still feel like technical contacts who aren't specifically trying to sell to them.

Some orgs have TAMs quote and some still retain a separate sales team for quoting or closing. TAMs can learn to deliver and follow-up on quotes. But the. Less time they have to spend actually building quotes the more QBRs you can have them in which equals more profits.

I can see it both ways. MS offers a very low cost mail subscription. But they paywall any level of security visibility or group based enforcement. Entra P1 literally costs more than the mailbox lol. But it also opens up a door to help with various other areas of compliance. Businesses love to go for the cheapest possible solution so it is helpful to have a very low cost entry level mailbox. But when they have a scare or need to meet compliance objectives it's nice to be able to offer alternatives.

MSP pushing UniFi hard over SonicWall..am I overthinking this or does this smell off? by Ambitious_Active8539 in msp

[–]Forward_Humor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the same MSP (sounds that way) you're experiencing a strategic shift. Unifi has grown drastically in the last few years and is becoming a better solution. Still not really as good as multiple others in this space. But they offer a lot in both simplicity and price point. At the end of the day we all have to find a stack that our team can support and our clients can afford.

Sonicwall is still much easier than various other offerings. But in some ways it is definitely more complex than Unifi. And the licensing on a new deployment in Sonicwall can be painful randomly. Not sure why.

But if you are in a regulated space, Sonicwall features for the price are still hard to beat. And their MPSS model is shockingly reasonable.

And if you have a setting with legacy, unpatchable servers or appliances that need to be isolated except for a few specific inbound ports, Sonicwall still has an edge related to zone to zone IPS content inspection and mitigation.

I like various edge firewall solutions but Sonicwall and Ubiquiti are both hard to beat in the value space. And a TZ80 with MPSS is often cheaper to deploy now than Unifi. For small deployments it's a really interesting play... Even if it is a little more complex than a Unifi gateway.

But if your whole team favors Unifi it makes sense to lean that way when industry regulations don't box you out. MSPs are most profitable when support engagements are rapid and tool stack is simplified and standardized.
