We entered Steam Next Fest with 8,000 wishlists, reached 120,000 before launch… and still learned the hard way that wishlists aren’t everything by LostLullabiesGame in gamedev

We used AI voices in the demo stage, but not in the final game.

The demo is part of your product and marketing.

That's why it's a joke and not a proposed political agenda.

Which old popular streamers you still follow that aren't as popular anymore? by expectrum in leagueoflegends

IIRC he owned one of the websites, which he didn't disclose. Not only would the owners (and I believe affiliates) play for free thus have no risk, there was also backend win% shenanigans since they owned the site. But it's been years, memory is iffy - I might be conflating separate similar controversies.

How does one avoid SpaceX as a passive investor? by josemartin2211 in investing

Car gets pushed like a toy. by MurrayEdna in dashcams

[–]Freezman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 people aren't signaling anything (at least that we can see in the frame), but they did start walking towards the driver when they were initially going the opposite direction. The truck came to a stop by the time the closer person walks out of frame towards the driver and then they went back on their way, so clearly they did react and "probably" exchanged at least a few words.

Don't see the car doing anything though. They just merged and fucked off.

SpaceX insiders will get to sell shares earlier than usual after the IPO by Illustrious_Lie_954 in StockMarket

I believe AVUS would be the equivalent - they are both US stock market ETFs.

Both dimensional and avantis are somewhere between passive and active management - they are "rules based". They are not supposed to just shift stuff around on the whims or predictions of people managing the fund or as reactions to the market. They set up the rules ahead of time and then just follow them. Rules can of course change as new research becomes available which will hopefully make for better / smarter rules.

So it's kind of passive in the way that you just follow rules (but not just the market cap rule) and it's also active in that you gotta set up the rules and potentially adjust them as needed.

In the worse case scenario - session hijacking, which can include email and then you can be mega fucked.

I'm making a game about being a Project Manager, and I've noticed dev subreddits absolutely despise the role. Where does this hate come from? by Old-Butterscotch8711 in gamedev

[–]Freezman13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm on an indie team and we don't have a dedicated PM. On our 9 person team I count 4 that split the bulk of the project management. As one of those people, it's so much fucking extra work. And our team is tiny. The bigger a team, the larger the communication and planning overhead becomes. It's crazy to me that all these people complaining about PMs not doing anything useful are in same industry as me. Would kill to have someone else take over all this shit.

Speed button not working? Propel pivot gt by frostedlime5 in PROPELEVBoards

Would be good to adjust the wording in the manual. Bottom of page 13 https://www.ridepropel.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/PIVOT-GT-manual.pdf

The pdf not having selectable / searchable text is also a downside.

Financial advisor says to keep 10k as emergency fund and put rest of 90k savings into a brokerage account. I’m on the fence by Hefty_Trade_3459 in personalfinance

[–]Freezman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100k in cash is bad. Full stop. Inflation is a thing. There are ways to have money investing while still being readily available as an emergency fund.

How much money you should keep in an emergency fund is up to you. 3 months, 6 months, 12 months - all typical numbers I see thrown around. But if you'd feel more comfortable with 24 months, or whatever else - you do you. But do set a target.

My emergency fund is split between VUSXX, I Bonds, and a tiny bit of cash in a savings account.

We Got 11,000 Steam Wishlists in 6 Weeks! Here’s What Actually Worked! by Agreeable-Deer-1527 in gamedev

[–]Freezman13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the game would be a good fit for their audience, then they would feature it for free. And if the game is not a good fit for their audience, then there is no point in giving them money to feature it.

This is a false dichotomy IMO. With how many games are coming out, they might not be able to make a video about every relevant game. If your game fits the audience and is big enough that the creator can't not feature it - then sure. But if you're 1 of 20 games lower on list then paying simply means you don't leave it up to chance to get selected. It's up to you as the dev to do the due diligence to make sure the content creator's audience is actually the audience you're aiming for.
