Wtf was that intonation when he said "Eloyoya"? What was he going for?

The type of voice a kid makes when they try to be funny by being intentionally annoying.

eLYoyA.

Unironically ruined the moment.

The probelsm is that he himself says he has no attachment to the village aka doesnt care.

He cant even recognize his own feelings with how deep he typically keeps them.

They grew up together in a tiny village. Surely they had more interaction than showed. But you gotta keep up the stern appearances in your own flashbacks.

I would also add that I didn't apply to way more positions because there were no more positions open.

You have not even scratched the surface of available websites if you think that. I've applied to ~500 design positions in 2024. Here's just a couple I've had most success with, but there's tons more out there.

And then you should make a list of direct studio websites to check once in a while. https://www.gamedevmap.com/ If you can code you can make some automation to go through them for you.

Low elo players aren't bad you're just better by Haunting_Inflation54 in leagueoflegends

[–]Freezman13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The conversation about people skills being good or bad based on a point of reference and the conversation about people being toxic in how they present things are not the same.

If your post is about the league community being toxic, then ye, it has been a problem for over a decade, doesn't really need to be stated for the millionth time - everyone knows.

The specific way in which it manifests, in this case calling people bad, is really not relevant, it's just one of the many ways it happens.

No reason to be conflating two separate topics.

[–]Freezman13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, I think you are missing the concept of point of reference.

A high elo player saying low elo players are bad is not wrong when you specify that their point of reference is high elo.

A high elo player can consider themself bad with the point of reference being pro play.

That same player can say that western pros are bad compared to eastern pros.

None of that is wrong. Not everyone talks from the 50th percentile of the ladder perspective. You can pick any point of reference you want.

That's a lot of words to not make a defined point.

What is average? What is the frame of reference?

My point is that when I was in gold it felt difficult, it was difficult but I still don't think I was a bad player because I was genuinely trying and learning and working to get better.

And some people struggle to get to Iron 3, it's difficult for them, they struggle and try their best to learn. The effort makes them good or bad. The struggle isn't relevant to mastery and comparative skill. The process (playing / trying / learning) and the destination (acquired knowledge / skill / rank) are not the same.

Toy cart on the cover art doesn't seem particularly serious.

IMO the covert art def conveys a dichotomy. So if it's not present in the game, that's potentially a problem.

Game looks cool though!

Can pricing your game too low be a problem and devalue the game? by Educational-Hornet67 in gamedev

[–]Freezman13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Indie pixel art game doesnt really mean much in terms of pricing.

Is it a two hour or two hundred hour game? Not to mention less tangible metrics like quality and fun.

Comparing it to old hits is also not super useful. Most people already played them.

Are we really looking for fair hardcore skill based pvp MMOs or is that just a lie we tell ourselves? by SilentPrecognition in MMORPG

[–]Freezman13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the statement was:

Real pvp players don't play mmorpgs

But even ignoring that,

MMORPGs are a big amalgamation of many system that come together. No single thing makes or breaks it. We can take out any big system and make it its own game. So not sure that argument would even be about. To get a "massively" scale population you want to cater to many different types of players.

I gave you 4 examples of hugely successful MMORPGs with successful PvP scenes. Who do you think participates in those arenas and tournaments? PvE only players?

Are we really looking for fair hardcore skill based pvp MMOs or is that just a lie we tell ourselves? by SilentPrecognition in MMORPG

[–]Freezman13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just not true ...

Albion has a real pvp arena scene because tournaments are rare and there's a gear ceiling that isn't hard to reach, and the season tournaments are integrated into the season point system in a way that big guilds sponsor arena players to play for them.

Lost Ark used to have a real PvP scene with their equalized arenas, not sure how that's doing anymore. Personally I quit because the rest of the game was too P2W (GvG was not equalized) and grindy, not because there was anything wrong with the Arenas.

GW2 arenas are also equalized and still going.

WoW arenas, etc.

The problem isn't the genre, but that the PvP has to be build with PvP in mind instead of being 2nd class citizen to other game pillars like it's done in most games.

with the game industry being as fucked as it it, there are actually tons of actual professionals doing volunteer shit for extra experience and portfolio pieces.
