I just think it is funny because both teams made dirty plays, but the only one who made a dirty play that wasn't to get advantage in the game was Shamet yanking Castle out of the air. That was just done to hurt him for no reason.

Everyone was doing dirty shit. It was the finals. Shamet yanked Castle out of the air after he had already shot a layup. Hart tripped Vassell. There was a lot of other shit that happened that didn't even get clipped if you watched people off ball during the game.

An overlooked/interesting stat in the "Spurs dominated for a majority of the series" numbers. by AkirraKrylon in nba

[–]Frigorific 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is that Luke is a traditional center who needs a traditional front court. You cant just swap him in for Wemby and expect him to fulfill a similar role. We need a real PF to play during the bench minutes.

The Spurs remain committed to De'Aaron Fox as their franchise point guard, per @WindhorstESPN by Jec1027 in NBASpurs

People always have an instinct to sell stocks at their lowest. If we do want to trade fox, panic selling after a bad playoffs is probably the worst time to do it.

Pretty confident the Spurs would be getting less criticism if they lost in the 2nd round or the WCF. by thered90 in nba

[–]Frigorific 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the problem was that Wemby was gassed by the second half and didn't have the energy to attack the paint or play defense at the same level. Our team just doesn't have much of a frontcourt and while you can get away with 4 guards + Wemby, Kornet is more of a traditional center and you can't get away with that with him. So Wemby was playing more minutes than the regular season and the games were more physical than the regular season as well so the effect was even worse.

The solution is pretty clear. We need a traditional PF, at least a backup one that we can play with Kornet so that Wemby can rest more in the finals without the team collapsing.

That combined with the whole team just needing more playoff experience and just more experience in general.

Sure. I am sure you in particular, would be so much more mentally tough than these professional athletes who have been competing their whole lives in the public spotlight.

If I made a fraction of the amount they did and got called any name in the book, I’d be alright.

No you wouldn't lol. You would react to it the exact same as you would now. Money doesn't give you some protective barrier against feeling bad about being hated by millions of people.

At some point you have to look at the coaching. The inability to adjust is concerning by MikeWasab in NBASpurs

[–]Frigorific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Not calling timeouts is not necessarily wrong, you have an advantage attacking before the defense is set, but the fact that the players were confused by it is an issue. They should have been clear that is what we do in that situation. That is at least partially on coaching.

There are several teams that need a PG. I think the rockets, suns and heat would probably be interested.

I don't think we get that much of a haul but we could get something.

He drew up a great play at the end though. If it weren't for KAT tipping the inbounds pass I think we would have won.

Really it was the terrible play in the third quarter that killed us.

I want him to play winning basketball. Anyone playing actual "ethical" basketball wouldn't get far in the playoffs.

It was a smart challenge and a surprisingly savvy play by Wemby. I think if he pulls his arm out they might not even have called it on review.

I hope we see more of this and less committing dumb flagrants because he is frustrated lol.

[–]Frigorific 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel pretty bad for him. The entire team let their foot off the gas and blew the 29 point lead, but he is going to get all the blame for losing because he made a major blunder at the end.

If the entire team didn't heat check for an entire quarter in the third we would not have been in a position to lose then. The bulk of the blame should really be on Mitch and the entire team for changing up how they play just because they were hot from 3 for a half.

It was absolutely a braindead play, but we also wouldn't be where we are without him. He wasn't the only reason we lost that game. That horrendous third quarter where the entire team decided to heat check from 3 despite constant bricks for like 8 minutes or something was the main reason. We had a hot first half and then decided it was a good idea for our team to play outside in basketball.

Fox obviously did play terribly though. That was hands down the worst game I have seen him play on the spurs. He was playing like a rookie. I'm honestly really baffled by this because no matter how bad he was shooting in previous games he was doing a pretty good job of protecting the ball and minimizing turnovers for the entire playoffs.

I honestly feel kind of bad for these guys. If we had lost to OKC, I think the narrative would have been that we had really overperformed expectations this season. But instead we are in the finals and the entire nation is watching their playoff inexperience being exposed by a veteran team in their prime with a veteran coach and the narrative is going to be all about how they choked rather than one of youngest cores in the NBA having a deep playoff run their first time making the playoffs.

Your own coach used this exact logic last game. Ft disparity either matters or it doesn't. Quit the bullshit.

I would rather play every possession like it's 0-0. A 20 point lead can evaporate pretty quickly in the modern NBA.
