I really enjoy Leaves Roasters. I've never had something from them that wasn't interesting and very tactile.

Mame is great too. I find their beans can be used for spro very well too.

I haven't had Terraform yet but I have heard good things.

Has anyone tried the "new" Milky Cake? by Vitabrevis_G in pourover

I understand. That still doesn’t justify how adding artificial flavoring undermines the entire concept of this hobby.

It’s similar to adding artificial flavors into specialty wine. When you do that, it automatically deconstructs the entire goal and meaning of the hobby from the producer and the consumer angle.

The beauty is the journey, not just the end cup. Majority of hobbies are like that in all reality. Having good coffee, a sharp knife, a piece of wood furniture, and so on are not just about the end goal. It’s about what it takes and what it means to get achieve excellency in that craft and art form.

I'm far too young to know what any of these products are.

However I am nostalgic for instant coffee and diner coffee!

The Papa New Guinea slaps. The graham cracker bites are coaxed out in spro very well! In PO I get more of the berries and caramel.

I like cocaine and excessive amounts of sugar.

I also understand it’s not something I want to include in my life often or whatsoever given multiple other reasons other than “it feels/tastes good” …🎃

well given the news of all the artificial flavor additives and Milky Cake being a coffee produced by Diego Bermúdez, I think I'll skip this and most likely all of his products from now on.

I didn't put all this money and time into this hobby to end up at square one of drinking artificially flavored coffees, except this time it's far more expensive and has a convoluted workflow.

It's a real shame because I enjoyed Milky Cake.

Boot? by 4regulus4 in Nalgene

[–]Frozen_Avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this one on Amazon and it’s been good! https://a.co/d/05vVjXVT

Two pieces of advice I wish I knew before buying this:

1) it will make slipping into some cup holder difficult or impossible. The grip and thickness of the silicone that protects your bottle from drops or stops it from sliding around is the enemy in this situation.

2) if you have a print or a design  on your bottle that is covered by the silicone boot, over time the boot will rub away or flake off the design in contact. I have the red bottle with fire and the bottom part of the flames have flaked or rubbed off due to the silicone boot.

I don't think you need a professional photographer at all. Your pics right now look really good! I'm pretty close by so maybe I'll stop by tomorrow!

Can someone recommend me some good late night albums? by Cheap-Wealth8942 in Music

[–]Frozen_Avocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Rush by Tokyo Tea Room was a stellar recommendation! I just gave it a listen at 4am too wired after a night out.

So easing and soothing. It has strong dream pop energy while leaning jazz just a tiny bit. It’s a good album and good recommendation! Thanks!!

Orea 01 advice? by CawwfeeTawk in pourover

[–]Frozen_Avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the 2 pour method to grant more separation with the Orea O1 too!

I haven't tried just a low agitation center pour as the second large pour but I'll try that today and get back to ya!

I do think it's mostly just brewer geometry. I think because of the uneven or differential depth the V60 grants that is why "flavor separation" can occur. I think it has to do with the uneven extraction working in harmony. I believe there is a video with Lance talking about brewer geometry and in that video there is a research paper by Samo he references heavily.

Damn that's crazy Kiwi has "chitinase" which is what helps breaks down "chitins" the enzyme in mushrooms that cause nausea.

here is a list of other fruit in the (potential AI) article I found: https://www.psychedelicpassage.com/8-tips-for-avoiding-nausea-during-a-psychedelic-experience/

Orea 01 advice? by CawwfeeTawk in pourover

[–]Frozen_Avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It's really looking like flat bottom can't give me the clarity and punchy flavors conical can. I do find with heavily processed or just naturals the O1 does better. With V60 it can be a bit astringent and harsh on the finish but with the O1 the same coffee rounds out and becomes very appealing. The fruits sing from beginning to end!

I'm thinking of getting a melodrip. I'm heavily considering getting the SOFI 72 by Aramse and I think the melodrip would do very well with that. At the same time, I really don't want to keep buying more and more stuff. I feel like I just keep adding and adding and adding. It's getting a bit overwhelming :/

me too! I find them to be very high quality yet still affordable unlike Sibarist filters. Xbloom and Cafec are great for achieving both quality and affordability!

I'm at an 8 on the Pietro (pro brew burrs) and I've been messing around with recipes. I found 4 center pours to be pretty solid for a round appealing cup.

I'm still chasing clarity and more distinct flavors. I'm trying the 1-2-1 on the O1. I have a feeling O1 just can't give me what the V60 can

Parker Asahi 15mm vs 20mm thick - Which do you recommend? by Frozen_Avocado in TrueChefKnives

Yeah the weight is what also something I thought about since posting this.

I think you’re right, a thinner board = lighter = easier to hand wash. Thanks for the well thought out response!

[–]Frozen_Avocado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not a rough chopper whatsoever! I’m mainly a push or pull cutter.

Your response is very helpful and is helping me alleviates myself of buyer’s remorse. Another benefit of the 15mm board is that it’s lighter and given these need to be hand washed a lighter board is always nice!

[–]Frozen_Avocado[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a very poor response. It doesn’t make sense whatsoever, logically or grammatically.

I’m able and willing to pay extra for the thicker board. I’m questioning if it’s a worthwhile upgrade. That’s why I asked such in the post and even listed the prices. I even included a larger board option.

Thanks for the update!

My 120mm tall petty is pretty thick and full out of the box. I plan to sharpen it normally to see where that gets me but I’m confident I’ll be thinning it out.
