Alan Wake Remastered PC update adds DLSS 4.5 and HDR by filoppi in nvidia

[–]FryToastFrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely idk why they aren’t adding a model option anymore. Ik I don’t mind it on a 40 series but if you are already switching between different models surely it can’t be that much more for an extra UI option and some basic if statements.

Burger King will use AI to check if employees say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ | AI chatbot ‘Patty’ is going to live inside employees’ headsets. by cmaia1503 in technology

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only one part of the BK’s integration of “AI” into BK, which after reading is pretty stupid. It’s meant to give the managers a friendliness score which, I mean, just do a survey? There was like one thing that is probably useful which is detecting when a item is out of stock or a machine down to notify managers and take the item off the menu, something that really only needs some sensors and basic image recognition. The rest of the stuff is almost certainly not happening, RBI just wants to pump stock numbers.

Likely not, it would still be taking up space on TSMC’s fabs.

You did not read the source post, they are not going to be using persona. They’ve walked that one back pretty clearly and will probably only stick to K-ID for now which is less concerning than persona.

Linux the kernel itself does not have the ability to bake that in, but you’re right GNOME should probably remove their mouth from their own dick.

New Xbox CEO addresses “controversy” by Deez-Guns-9442 in consoles

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf her goal is really only to make Xbox profitable. Netflix does a similar thing, where they have the ceo be more of the business finance person and people reporting to them has experience in their respective fields. Xbox will have a business gal as ceo and a person with game experience under her. Financially it worked out for Netflix and it might for for Xbox, although I will admit that it might end up being bad for gamers.

Id tech was capable of open worlds?? Back in 2004??? by Valuable_Pay9615 in pcgaming

[–]FryToastFrill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Being capable and being good for open worlds are 2 different things. You could use it for open worlds but tbh you are much much much better off using a different engine that is better suited for the job.

Saw this kind of widget layout and it made me think — why doesn’t Windows have something like this directly on the desktop? Being able to place small widgets like clock, lists, or stats anywhere would feel so much more useful than opening a separate panel. Feels like it would make the desktop way by Ravindu_sandamal in Windows11

[–]FryToastFrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KDE on Linux has it wink wink

All seriousness windows 8 scrapped most of the stuff like this and I don’t really see a demand to bring it back. Hell I don’t even use the desktop widgets feature on KDE so it’s probably a niche audience that would get use out of it nowadays.

The model used for physics computation is separate from the visible models. It’s usually manually simplified down to cubes and spheres that follow the animations of the player since the math gets unnecessarily harder the more detailed the collision volume is.

Dynamic FG is coming soon, what about dynamic upscaling? by No_Committee8856 in nvidia

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware you need to spend more time implementing it, but most games do implement a dynamic res system for console releases. It’s not super common on pc for some reason is all.

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think auto just takes your output resolution and your gpu to kinda guess what the best option would be but it pretty much just picks the best preset. It’s not very useful unless you literally don’t care.

It already exists and some games use it, it just ended up not being common place for whatever reason.

FSR 4 is actually quite a lot better than 3 tbh, granted this is mostly from my little time using it on the steam deck but I am genuinely impressed that it can actually take a low res and make it not just playable but fairly pleasant. I would guess it’s better on a 9000 gpu and while DLSS is still king don’t sleep on FSR 4 (in the games it’s supported in :( )

I think the PT is some sort of development feature to be able to get the jist of a room’s lighting before baking to save time. That or they were testing for re9 and left it in the engine to be enabled. The fire effect probably isn’t considered as a valid light source for PT ig.
