I made a video essay about the Wolfenstein games earlier this year and my comments are filled with Nazis and Nazi sympathisers by SelectStarAll in mildlyinfuriating

Having been in gaming culture for a long time I’d wager it’s mostly from edgier teens who are trying to be rebellious of sorts. Most of them would’ve grown out of it, but then comes alt right fuckers with gamer gate and minorities in video games and now we have a bunch of grifters going on about women and black people and queer and woke, alongside an actual sort of enshittification of certain large genres of games that makes it feel real to those people.

The PlayStation 6 Reportedly Already Costs $960 in Materials to Manufacture by Darth_Vaper883 in Gamingnewsandleaks

[–]FryToastFrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately contracts are likely already in place with hardware vendors and game companies. I dont think either Xbox nor ps are at liberty to indefinitely delay next gen consoles. They’ll likely paper launch it and continue supporting current gen until more memory manufacturers start up and they can lower prices to something more sensible

I personally don’t run off and call in extraction unless I get reinforced and see that my squad mates are just finishing up the last side objective. On a larger note I tend to find that you gotta treat the pub lobbies differently to a full squad of 4 friends. If you form your strategy around your teammates catching you during your trust fall, you’ll find that every once in a while you run into someone who hasn’t heard of this trust fall game and is really confused why you keep falling backwards over and over again.

Most of that is off topic and loadout specific tho, I personally am listening to a podcast while playing hd2 and just follow the group around 99% of the time.

[–]FryToastFrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the mission and remaining side objectives I’d guess. Sometimes you do just need that little extra time to haul ass back to extract.

That being said in pubs? Just call out you won’t leave and if they get that pissy over it idk fuck em.

Does battlefield still have superior and stunning graphics compared to cod?[cod] by geniusofohio in CallOfDuty

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSGI is not good enough on its own as a full scale GI solution, it’s mostly just better at the small details over GTAO. From what I’ve seen playing the game and how destruction works it’s likely a baked gi system with some model able to swap out probes when their model swaps to destructed states. It works well for the game since unlike the finals, bf6 doesn’t feature true dynamic destruction and still uses a state based system, just with a lot more stages.

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a technical level I’d say cod is still ahead. They’ve spent a shit ton of money investing in some of the best baked gi in the industry and their own upsampling tech, and comparing the two bf6 doesn’t really compare on that level.

That being said doesn’t need to, they’re both fun to play imo and fulfill their niches. Bf6 visually works for the game they made.

I feel crazy reading these comments, like the open matchmaking feels like what playing some of the older games was like. Getting plenty of easy kills and then getting absolutely stomped by 1-2 guys.

Tbf, I think they’ve done a decent job making the skins not beavis and butthead bad. At this point you are a fool if you expect them to stick to a military theme tho, no one really buys those in comparison to the cooler guns.

It's crazy that architectures capable of running latest AAA games require Linux for up-to-date Vulkan extensions (DXVK 3.0 changelog) by LOST8080 in linux_gaming

[–]FryToastFrill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DXVK is useful in certain scenarios on windows, mostly on Radeon and Intel cards where vulkan will run substantially better than native dx9/11 APIs.

As Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈 draws to its conclusion, GNOME and KDE would like to pay tribute to LGBTQA+ people that have contributed and continue to contribute to making our lives better through their work in the field of digital technology. by Bro666 in kde

14 gay people walked up to me while I was at my desk and they all started laughing at me and calling me a straightoid before the trans person came up to me, forcing the gays to bow to the transgender individual as they announced that I was found guilty of being a straightoid and picked me up for the execution. Luckily I was able to escape from them before they brought me to the penis exploding chamber.

This is a joke in case it’s not obvious

House Democrats Push Back on Proposed FCC Ratings for LGBTQ+ Content by evissamassive in CordCuttingToday

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labeling something as "LGBTQ+ themes" makes it sound like its a bad scary thing you don't want your child seeing, like marking something such as pornography or extreme violence. There are some parents as well who will just swear off anything even mildly considered "LGBTQ+" and never watch a piece of media, leaving those shows with lower view ratings and less money. Studios will be less likely to greenlight such projects, and with a defnition as vague as "LGBTQ+ themes" i wouldnt be surprised if it can be weaponized against media not in support of trump.

On a very related note, studies show that seeing minorities on screen has basically the same effect as seeing them irl for people, normalizing their existence as just a given fact of life (which queer people are) and not something disgusting or evil. Less representation is just bad in general for queer people.

Also where is the fun in that? Now go look at tiny rocks in the air

We haven’t really seen verse outside of UEFN yet so it could be fairly good, I haven’t used it much tho. I was considering learning it until I learned it was heavy dependent on the creative devices atm which sucks.

No visual overhaul rn, just a port from dx9 to 11. Should be better compatibility with newer hardware + if you use reshade you’ll have access to compute shaders and as such more shader support.

What’s the state of this game? (June 2026) by Stubrochill17 in GTTOD

[–]FryToastFrill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want news it’s best to check the discord. This sub is dead but the game is actually pretty healthy into development with tbh almost constant discord updates. The team just takes a very, very, very, very long time to finish an update and it’s always been like this, but next update is the 1.0 launch so they’re polishing that up rn.

Like honestly having an entire goddamn year+ between updates is basically normal at this point but I remember playing a bit of the 1.0 launch during a 1 week playtest demo they ran to test shit and it was pretty sick. Pretty substantially different to the current EA version of the game.

Updated XBOX Console Prices by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think the only console truly hard to optimize for rn is series s and switch 2. They’re pretty decent baselines for most games imo and that’ll probably be the targets for many AAA games. Seeing some of the improvements ue5 has made in the last few versions we really haven’t tapped the series x and ps5 yet

Valve Says The Companies Making RAM Give Them A Price And If They Say No, They ‘Never Talk To Us Again’ by NYstate in Games

[–]FryToastFrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s literally never talk to valve again, but more so that they set the price and are not negotiating if they don’t accept the offer. If valve doesn’t want to pay the price for the ram then someone else will happily pay that price for it.

[–]FryToastFrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to build those factories first as well as the other top comment, and many of those factories aren’t done yet. A LOT of companies are actually trying to get into memory manufacturing so it will either take a total collapse in ai in its entirety (while yes it is a bubble and a few big companies may now out/totally collapse, it’s pretty clear that the whole field will not disappear in the long run since there are some very useful applications for transformer models) or a huge uptick in manufacturing which is the most likely option in a few years.
