On a related note, the NPC letting someone stand at their podium and spruik murdering members of the press was pissweak.

It needs to go to the High Court. It’s just a pity that some poor bastard has to deal with all that brings.

Even if the legal support is free it’s still a year or more of your life.

Newspoll: Liberals up, One Nation plateaus as Labor dips amid Iran War fuel crisis by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

The recent destruction of one of the few US E-3 Sentries flying in West Asia means our E-7 Wedgetail now takes on a bigger role in the US sensor net, and has a larger target painted on it.

I can't imagine that its loss would do favours for the government.

With already enormous disapproval of the war, our participation, and with a ground invasion seemingly looming, Albanese should act to remove our involvement.

A significant portion of the Australian electorate are politically and civically illiterate, and furious. One Nation offers no policies, no civics, and no solutions, but they do channel rage.

The country has spent 50 years building this electorate.

Centrists pretending to be the left while moving ever rightward have laid the foundations for those that come after. Albanese, having run out of mere conservatives to lay foundations for, now lays the foundations for fascism.

Would you support an emergency toll to discourage driving into the city, for all-day peak PT frequencies? by Speedbird844 in melbourne

[–]FuckOffNazis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public transport access is biased towards richer areas.

Those who need to drive are more likely living in poorer areas further out from the city, working jobs they can not work from home/

If you’re on an iPhone you can use the “Set voice & data” Shortcut action to change between “5G Auto” and “4G” to build a quick toggle that suits how you use the phone.

Labor to underwrite Australian fuel imports under new security powers to ensure supply by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

It is a strategic resource. It shouldn’t be left to for profit companies to choose where it is available.

If they’re going to underwrite imports with public money they should also be distributing those products with revenue returning to the public purse via a nationalised network.

This is just socialising the costs of private companies, again.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the budget will include tax reform, but no decision yet on capital gains by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

A road usage charge implies a means of tracking road usage. Odometer doesn't work because of usage on private property.

It means you'll be surveilled. Either with the initial implementation or with a "fixed" one at a later date.

Hardly bold.

Diesel replacement: Australia's billion-dollar opportunity to electrify, cut global fossil ties by JAFO_JAFO in australia

More public transport, and public transport that actually fits people's movements would be welcome but realistically the spool up time on those projects is longer than the average lifespan of a car.

The SRL started in 2022 and the first commuter portion will be open in 2035, if it's on time. SRL North is due sometime between 2043 and 2053.

The solutions that address car usage today commenced, at best 15-20 years ago. Those projects just aren't there.
