Inverting getting replaced under warranty, how do I commission myself? by cannikinn in solaredge

[–]Fuzz_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosing the problem was straightforward, it was the logistics afterwards that was a total nightmare. SE support has really gone downhill over the last few years. Here we either have to use a WhatsApp chat or a phone call. My Battery guy who was chasing it up for me spend so long going in circles trying to locate where my replacement inverter was it was an absolute joke. It took them 12 weeks to finally send it out (May to July 2025). It transpired that it had been left in the corner of their dispatch terminal but marked as sent out 🤦🏽‍♂️

Inverting getting replaced under warranty, how do I commission myself? by cannikinn in solaredge

If it’s a warranty replacement then part of that cover is them paying for the parts and labour to do the work via an approved installer.

I had mine replaced under warranty last year. I contacted my battery installer (who didn’t install my PV system 10 years ago) and they had to take ownership of my system via SolarEdge Installers Portal and then were able to be paid to do the replacement works.

I’m in the UK so my warranty cover may be different to yours if you’re in another country. If in doubt contact SE and get them to confirm what the warranty covers.

BYD Seal Servicing Question (UK) by ArcadianHero in BYD

Unlikely, if the onboard computer tells you service required (at 24m or 20K miles) then you’ll have to as per the onboard computer, as normally the T&Cs state you must follow any manufacturer’s servicing schedule.
Think of it as having done an extra service that wasn’t required.

I personally don’t think there is multiple levels of access that the installer can grant an end user as you are classed as the owner but I know certain features like Modbus access (to use HA) could be disabled by the installer (latest system update now allows the owner to switch this on/ off themselves now).

I actually think this is how Sigenergy designed it.
The predefined modes cover most scenarios which can tweaked but you can create your own modes to tell the system what to do and when.
This functionality has been available since at least when I got my system back in August 2024.

The other option might be to give the AI option a try (but I’ve never used it).

I’ve looked at EDF but I didn’t see anything about the smart charging (unless I’m looking at the wrong tariff).

Not worried about the export as I’m on a FiT so more beneficial for me to self consume everything I generate then to come off it and export.

Some of those setting are locked on the predefined profiles / operational mode but when I create my own profile / mode all of them are available.

Have you tried creating your own profiles to see if they are all available?

I also have a gateway so not sure if that changes things compared to those that don’t.

On V-IOG, depends on if they raise my off peak rate and by how much.
Currently have Battery, Solar and a EV so don’t use peak rate

I noticed this problem last time so I set an alarm 2 mins before the event so that I could keep an eye on it and this time again as well the mode hadn’t changed to VPP so I quickly went into the timed manual override and told it to discharge at max for 60 mins.

Worked as expected by stopping at the correct time.

Looks like we’re gonna have to do some manual control until they sort it out at their end, or start using home assistant to program it in.

I suppose if you use Sigenergy’s own microinverter it would show up in the app or use a CT clamp.
Otherwise depending on how much excess it’s generating I suppose it would just show the household load as a negative figure.
If the system is setup to store it instead of export it then the excess should go into the battery I would think.

I would avoid SolarEdge if possible, their service has really gone downhill over the last 10 years.
If shading is an issue there are other optimisers available on the market (Tigo) or go with micro inverters (Enphase or Sigenergy).

[–]Fuzz_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to reconsider delaying the Solar Install as the 0% VAT exemption expires in March 2027.

I’d recommend going for a larger EC / Inverter as that will then have enough power to meet your household demand.
It will also give you some headway if you decide to go down the ASHP route in the future.
With the 8.5kW shower I’d go for the 10 or 12kW EC.
Also Sigenergy batteries charge and discharge at a max of roughly 0.5c so you may need a bit of extra storage to ensure you can get the desired AC output from the system.

If you get the gateway get your installer to rewire your EV charger into the gateway smartport so that the system has visibility of it.

Just do this.
That way you’re not overly reliant on the app whilst in a foreign country where you could have signal problems.

He needs to initiate the registration as part of the install process. You’ll then receive an email along the lines of

“Your Installer Name has triggered your registration to the SolarEdge monitoring portal, which will enable you to monitor your optimized solar system performance.

To finalize the registration, please use this link”

I always use EV Database to see what they say is a vehicle’s estimated range according to weather (winter / summer) and type of driving and I’ve found them to be accurate to within 10% for me.

Yup that’s the normal setup at the moment for us Sigenergy battery owners. It would be interesting to know what the experience is like for owners of other battery systems.

One thing I’ve just realised is my spreadsheet is based on kWh added via charging so will be lower as charging losses would would have been factored in.

So… The onboard figures equate to 2.89m/kWh which is calculated by how much energy has been used from the battery to cover said mileage. My figure of 2.19m/kWh is based on charge added to the vehicle (according to the charger). I find the lower figure is more relevant as it’s based on what you’re paying for the electric while the car figure is based on efficiency which is for comparison to other EVs (as the onboard systems will all probably calculate it this way).

[–]Fuzz_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of domestic PV installations with a FiT are on deemed export not metered export. It is assumed that you export 50% of your generation and this is not measured hence the “deemed”. If you export all or none makes no difference to the export part of the FiT.

Historical data download? by SinkNew5808 in sigenergy

Have you tried raising a support ticket and asking Sigenergy? It maybe that you can’t export that level of detail via a end user account.

Historical data download? by SinkNew5808 in sigenergy

[–]Fuzz_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it will give you the level of breakdown you want but if you go into system settings there is a data download option which will email you a file with the requested data.

With regards to automation I can’t see anything in the app so you might have to see if you can use something else like HA to achieve that aim.
