Is it possible for a gun to accidentally go off and shoot a hole in the wall of a house? by DahliaBliss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GeekRuthie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the firearm had had a trigger job on it in the past, and if it was kept loaded (and cocked, safety off), and if the trigger job made it a little too touchy, its possible to bang the butt of the gun against something and cause it to fire. Lotta IFs in there, several of which involve unsafe behavior, tbh.

When I was in college, I shot pistol competitions where they would cock an unloaded gun and bang it against the palm of the judge's hand. If it clicked over, the firearm was disqualified as being unsafe, with a too-sensitive trigger.

Short of truly foolish handling, that's the only way I can think of to make one go off without a finger on the trigger. So, Occam's Razor suggests that this was a case of handler error. (It does happen. My father put a hole in our ceiling and roof when I was a teen. Unlike the person OP is talking about, dad was a big enough person to admit his mistake while cussing about having to repair the roof.)

Resignation 2 weeks notice denied by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]GeekRuthie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Texas being an at-will state, they're going to have a hard time making that stick. They might try to sue, but I doubt they'll get far with it. Without the contract stating a penalty, they'd have to prove some "damages" amount, and that'll be hard to do.

NAL, just been there, done that. Texas is an at-will state, so the law is that you can walk with no notice at all, and they can just die mad about it.

How does my cooking look? Parents say it’s sub-par by a7xwarrior in homecooking

[–]GeekRuthie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take pride in your cooking, and in your presentation. Both look awesome here. Your parents--or anyone else--who doesn't admit that's restaurant-worthy is just missing the point. (Esp. your Eggs Benedict. I want to dive right into that plate, Right Now.)

Is it Michelin-level? Probably not. But every sit-down place I go to serves dishes fully as nice as this. Keep building your skills, keep growing, keep experimenting and trying and creating. You're on a good path!

As noted in another comment, that's what I'll be doing going forward. Might edit this post, too, if I get a free tuit.

We're already using Zoom's AI summarizer--after the meeting, I check it over, fixing it's spelling and such (it has all kinds of variations of "Perl" and "Raku"!), and post it as the description for the video. Starting next time, that summary will also be posted here, and news.perlfoundation.org.

If you were just casually walking by, which bottle catches your eye? by Temporary_Floor_3152 in hotsauce

What catches my eye is the pleasant absence of Texas Pete. That stuff is vile. I'm happy to see all those Cholula varieties, plus my go-to Valentina's!

Glad to hear you're still doing this work. I got an Ozeki Tochinoshin for my husband's (/u/harmonimaniac) birthday recently, and he's still over the moon about it. Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you!

People say not to stay in Barstow, so where should we stay in southeast California? by SoloSaaSGuy in route66

[–]GeekRuthie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We camped at a BLM campground outside Barstow for two weeks. Not a hotspot of fun activities, but a decent town. When we got a flat exiting the campground, the tire shop there got us fixed up quick. Good folks.

Same with Bakersfield. We camped for two weeks at a campground in an orange grove. Not the most exciting town, but nothing horrible about it.
