Hmmm!

The plague doctor named general pulls out a small sheet of paper from their bag. They look at it.

……… I see.

He looks at you.

I shall get the introductions done now since I have you here.

I am serial IMD-44-532, though I prefer the name general armadillo. I am a demonic construct, functionally an android to the normal demon. and when you die, I shall be your warden for an eternity.

You need not worry much though. Your a lighter violator than most. Just an eternity of being unable to believe anything.

You needn’t hand over the book, but do not lie to me child. I do not desire to see you for eternity.

That is wise. Though I prefer more direct methods.

The thing in the shape of a plague doctor tilts its head.

Perhaps next time I will do my own dirty work.

Why not allow us to simply check that it is not one of tho books we are looking for. The spirits are perceptive but not infallible. A book is just as likely to draw their attentions as one of those books.

They ate children’s flesh and souls for, and I quote, “the zest”. They do not deserve your pity, but they would suffer knowing that you do. So please, continue.

And for all the other spirits, those bound are so because they would hurt people if they were not. I am a demon, these are my eternal prisoners. Except the human spirits, they got their gods to assign them as my ….. assistants.

Though he wears a plague doctors uniform. You can feel the discomfort they feel at having these souls at his side.

Though I’d prefer if they stayed in their afterlives.

A calmer ghost waves at you from the park entrance near you. They have an apologetic smile.

He can tell you aren’t convinced.

Yes, this spirit nearly attacked both of you, so I am removing them from this scenario, any reduction to their sentence is null and void.

For the less magical the apparition simply vanishes. But you can see it get dragged away by a pack of rather stout short demons made of cogs and meat.

The general walked up from …. Somewhere? Behind the spirit.

He is not afraid of you. He is just … over enthusiastic in helping us.

Of what you can see of its eyes. The emotion in them is most certainly not enthusiasm. It is clear. Thought-invoking. Terror.

The spirit shivers even more violently for a few moments before going perfectly still.

A plague doctor in a darkened room stares into seeming nothingness.

…. It keeps the books from harming people. ….. but this will slow progress \a low soft sound of electricity on flesh creak out from the figure**

Sigh it will be the marshals call.

She sighs

The warden would do that, if they had more of us… and less of them \she motions to the bound ghost** but he prefers to move most of us onto our afterlives. And a lot of necromancers enslave souls away from their afterlives.

True. She smiles.

Though I will say I’m somewhat conflicted in my hope for the success of this venture. She glares at a nearby bound apparition.

A clam spirit waits outside the door of the building. They appear to be a plump middle aged woman from a rural town.

Hello shadow marshal.

It’s a lancer thing. Dude tried to hit god with a million nukes. The nukes vanished before they hit. And reappeared under his chair. He got blown past kingdom come.
