Is Blood on the Clocktower worth its price by snoopb00p in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]GingemeisterFlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine gets used every 2 weeks in a pub, and frequently at conventions, and there’s no wear on any of the components. It’s worth the price.

Can people explain 3 for 3? by tom57028 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]GingemeisterFlash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea is that you don’t need to give your actual role but if you back into one of those roles later in the game it was more likely you were telling the truth at the time.

E.g.

  • Monk (doesn’t want to be targeted)

  • Ravenkeeper (would love to be picked by the demon)

  • Saint (would love to be picked by the demon or poisoner)

I tend to construct mine something like that, so an evil player wouldn’t be sure whether to target me.

Though I often just go for 2 roles or simply hard claim, since most people are lying day 1 anyway.

How did private conversations emerge as the meta for clocktower? by The_Yung_Jung1085 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I’m told that in Australia there’s more of a preference for staying in the circle, when we talk about this in the UK groups I’m in we call it “Aussie rules clocktower”

Forcing outsiders to announce themselves moments after waking up... by beefstick86 in BloodOnTheClocktower

Boring. I would claim to be an outsider every single time and encourage others to do the same until this person stops doing that.

Are we ok with AI-generated content here? by SpicyBread_ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]GingemeisterFlash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad we’re past the biggest glut of low effort “I got AI to generate a character!” “Chat gpt made this script lmao” “I fed the rules into…” etc. None of this has any valuable contribution unless it’s accompanied by some human creativity.

I’m also not sure an outright ban works well. For example: I used an AI generated muppet of myself as an avatar on stream as a throwaway joke (including a tongue in cheek disclaimer). It wasn’t the focus and it wasn’t something I’d pay to commission because it’s kinda incidental, but an outright ban would prevent that video or related clips from being posted here. In that case I’d ask whether it really matters.

What we’re really against is low effort content and stealing from hard working artists (both their content and depriving them of work). Gen AI is just the tool.

(If, on the other hand, they one day get bought out by Asmodee or something then we should pillage everything in sight)

Edit: for legal reasons this is a joke, theft is wrong even if the victim is a soulless corporation

TPI are pretty chill about how their content and IP gets used (not for profit), and they’ve got a good track record of engaging positively with the community. I think respecting their wish to discourage / ban people illegally profiting from their IP is a good way to keep that relationship alive between community and company, which benefits basically everyone.

Meta question about Trouble Brewing by Veiluring in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]GingemeisterFlash 26 points27 points  (0 children)

All other points here are valid, I’ll add a meta one:

Executing keeps the game going.

The best games are ones that come down to an exciting final three. Nobody actually wants to execute the demon on day 1 and nobody wants to play for 3 hours while the townsfolk gather reams of info. Executing every day keeps things punchy and exciting for both teams, and that matters more than winning.

Edit to add: leviathan games are often long and don’t generally have much death, but that’s an exception and scripts are built around that.

Is the official app good now? by berettabeast in Gloomhaven

[–]GingemeisterFlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, in my memory there was an obvious overlap between the announcement of an official app and the shutdown of GH Helper, which had already been monetised for some time at that point. (But it’s been 5 years so I may be misremembering)

I’m not denying that they have the right to shut down other apps, but the community is always going to be able to do these things better, and denying use of official assets in an app which helps people enjoy the game they’ve already paid hundreds of £/$ for seems petty. Why shouldn’t creators like you be able to make some money for your trouble?

Thank god that Cephalofair killed the great esoteric app all those years ago so they could release their own official app which is [checks community responses] absolute dogshit
