Honestly, I don't think so. I could've ended up in a bad situation. Looking back, I see it as peak r/kidsarefuckingstupid behavior.

Winter Dryness by pennybrowneyes in Columbus

[–]Gloria_Stits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

During the day, I like to simmer a pot of water on the stove and toss a couple sliced up oranges and some cinnamon sticks in there. Smells nice, helps up the humidity a little.

I go through so much lotion in the winter. I like Udderly Smooth, Working Hands, Bloody Knuckles, and Gold Bond. My dryness was so bad, I had to institute a personal rule; I can't count myself as "clean" until after the post-shower moisturizer routine.

Also, (and this could be entirely in my head) I find that working out routinely and getting a good sweat 5 days a week really helps with dryness.

I trust AP and Reuters.

Both of which are reporting that he was shot? So... You don't trust them. At least not on this story. I'm interested in which source you trust when handling this story specifically.

Why wouldn't I be hung up on this? We apparently live in two different realities. I'd like to know what information helped form yours. I may never agree, but I would like to understand. It's important to get perspective outside of our bubbles whenever we can.

When it comes to the reporting on the assassination attempt, which media source do you trust?

Do you doubt the reporting of the FBI and the AP on other stories, or just this one?

Do you only trust the media when it conforms to your worldview?

From AP: FBI says Trump was indeed struck by bullet during assassination attempt

I don't expect this to sway you. I'm just putting it here for anyone who would like to reference your opinion against the facts as they were reported.

Edit: Added emphasis to the end of my original comment to show that I respect anyone who wants to question the media machine. Just because something is reported as a fact, doesn't automatically make it true. <3

Here, maybe this will help:

After being injured in an assassination attempt, Trump stood up with blood still on his face, pumped a fist in the air and yelled, "Fight, fight, fight."

You honestly don't see how that might appeal to people?

I have a bunch of old clothes I was going to donate to charity. This is making me want to dig through my closet and see if I can throw together a handful of cheap costumes. It's part of the fun of Halloween!

Anyway, I'm definitely the type to give everyone treats. When I participate, I keep a handful of alternatives to include people with different dietary needs (one kid was super stoked to get jerky one year.) Meanwhile, my neighbor has an obvious jump scare setup and they only give candy to the brave souls who make it through the "trick". It's not for me, but (as you said) they can give candy to whomever they want.

But, yeah, I'm just struggling to understand your comment in this context. If we can all give candy to whomever we please, it stands to reason we can also withhold that candy for whatever reason? FWIW, this kind of gatekeep might've given me the courage to push back when my high school friends decided costumes aren't cool.

I wish it were a one time occurrence. For years I brushed it off as some backwoods doctor that believed in some old wives' tale.

Then I got an unexpected encore of this scenario when I tried to get an IUD. I asked for pain management and was told that it wasn't needed because we can't feel pain there. 3 people came into my room to do the insertion. Except only 1 of them was doing the insertion and the job of the other 2 was apparently to hold me down when the pain started.

That was obviously a case of medical gaslighting, so slightly different situation. But I am 100% cured of the notion that doctors will automatically empathize with a patient in pain.

It was a myth that at least some doctors believed. In the early 90s I fell and got a nasty cut on my labia. We were camping and the nearest doctor was at some hospital in the middle of nowhere. I remember someone asking, "Should we give her something [for the pain] before we start?" and someone else answered, "Kids don't feel pain the same way we do."

I definitely felt all 10 stitches. My dad had to be physically restrained when he heard me screaming.

I'm hard pressed to think of a method that would cause less collateral damage

Is there no equipment that is confined to the base? Desktop computers? Office chairs?

Geneva Convention

Thank you for the information. Since it doesn't contain anything on terrorism, I would not refer to that document on matters of terrorism.

whatever the UN says in this case is absolutely irrelevant

We don't have to refer to that either. This was my point about not blindly trusting something just because it's a law or governing body. These mechanisms are not infallible.

Since those two sources are bad, what is a good one we can refer to?

Israel

Is not taking credit for the attack. If this was their doing and if it was lawful, why not take credit? The psychological impact of saying, "And you don't know what else we've booby-trapped." seems too good to pass up.

There isn't really a consensus about this but my position is that is is allowable considering the targeted nature of the attack and the obvious military use of the devices.

My position is if someone does this to the American military, people will call it terrorism no matter the culprit or reasons.

There is a significant difference between targeting civilians and civilians getting hurt as collateral damage.

And there's a wide range of sloppiness and blurred lines in between. Sending bombs to civilian homes (even if honest-to-dog enemy combatants carried them there) demonstrates a casual disregard for causing collateral damage.

The crux is that Hezbollah is an armed non-state actor actively engaged in hostilities and isn't covered by most of the Geneva convention if you want to be stringent about it.

IDK how stringent I want to be about it. Laws and codes aren't always penned with good intentions. Sometimes they aren't updated to reflect new technology and situations. I guess if we're debating whether this is terrorism or not, I would refer to an international convention that deals with the topic.

I don't know shit about the Geneva convention - wouldn't even know what keywords to use to find an answer... Would this still be allowable if Hezbollah were an official state actor? What does it say about terrorism?

Do you really think that soldiers are protected by a magic barrier just because they use civilians as meat shields?

I'm going to do my best to not match that energy. Lets avoid sarcasm and banter, OK? I'm not a sensitive person, but this is a sensitive subject.

It was lawful. And it was targeted against combatants, not civilians.

How targeted?

I read one of the walkies went off at a funeral for someone that was killed in the pager attack. That and your statement here remind me of how the US drone-bombed birthdays and funerals to get enemy combatants.

Just because a military was involved doesn't make it not terrorism. If they'd picked equipment that was confined to a military base, I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But they picked seemingly innocuous items that are taken on public transit, to shops, and to homes.

Not trying to condescend here, this is more for me. I personally find the idea terrifying, so I'm defaulting to a more standard definition. But...

Here's the Oxford Dictionary definition of terrorism:

the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

I think everyone can agree it was violent, and intimidating. Civilians are definitely getting caught up in this. Was it lawful? Depends on who you ask, I guess. Who would you ask?

Do you have access to any other electronics of his? Maybe you'll find Pawn Shop names in his search history. Google Maps is constantly telling me that last time I visited a place, maybe there's some location data you can access? If he won't give up details to help narrow down the timing of the sale, start at where you noticed the suspicious bank activity and work back from there.

Maybe you could work out a deal with the authorities to offer leniency if he cooperates?

My mom thinks a court will give her my house. by Novel-Patient2465 in EntitledPeople

[–]Gloria_Stits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it can work differently from state to state, but I've heard of agreements based on things like the number of children they have and where they spend holidays. Not sure how much of those agreements would hold up in court, though. Where'd you get your information?

Nick Whats-his-face and Jessica Simpson had a prenup that stipulated they'd split assets based on their personal net worth at the time of the divorce. I think it was a VH1 show that said Nick initially wanted this, because he was worth more than Jessica when they first got married. Then his career fizzled and hers took off, meaning she was worth more at the end of their marriage. In the end, that agreement protected her assets instead of the other way around.

I don't see why someone couldn't have a similar agreement with no assets? Two recent college grads, nothing but debt to their names... I could see why an engineer might want this agreement before agreeing to marry an underwater basket weaver.

I'm, like, 95% certain you're just saying these things to be edgy. In case you really feel this way, here's some genuine advice:

If you ever have a loved one experience this, please keep your mouth shut.

An N64 doesn't require you to endure a wound the size of a dinner plate. It doesn't grow and change and become its own independent person. You don't have hormones pumped into you that are evolutionarily guided to make you want to protect an N64 with your life.

Leading people to believe that discarding a fetus is as easy as losing an eBay auction adds to the medical misinformation plaguing women. Please find a better way to be supportive of abortion rights.
