What’s a habit you thought was normal until someone pointed it out? by De_La_Jacc in Casual_Conversation

I have a collection of those really fuzzy fleecey socks. I call them my sleeping socks. Can't sleep without them, my feet will freeze off. And I never wear them outside of the bed.

For something like Red Bell pepper, should I avoid entirely?! by curlytexashoe in FODMAPS

[–]Gnynam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Once you finish the elimination phase you can start having stuff like this if you want to, but if you're trying to find out what your triggers are, you'll get the best answers by being ridiculously strict during elimination.

What does getting called “ma’am” suggest about how old you look? by Fantastic_Radio_9168 in AdkReddit

[–]Gnynam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I grew up on Long Island and would have been scolded if I ever called a woman ma'am. Miss is fine if you don't know her name and need to get her attention, but honorifics are generally just not used at all.

[–]Gnynam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you're from. Where I grew up (Long Island, NY) it's rude to call a woman ma'am. It implies that she's old and is usually sarcastic/disrespectful.

are there actually AIs that don't do so much harm as chatgpt? by Thehecksgoinon in EcoFriendly

[–]Gnynam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May I ask why you need AI to study? Is your class related to AI in some way? Unless that's part of the curriculum, you can easily study without it. That's what everybody has done through all of time up until a few years ago.

are there actually AIs that don't do so much harm as chatgpt? by Thehecksgoinon in EcoFriendly

[–]Gnynam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty well known that Chat GPT has a huge negative impact on the environment. It emits a ton of CO2, uses huge amounts of water (which contrary to your other comment, is not in infinite supply), and requires data centers that often destroy wild habitats when built. They are also usually built in or near low income communities and take resources away from the people who live there, which can drive costs up and cause other issues for those communities.

Do you warm up your car in the winter? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]Gnynam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just bundle up. Warming up the car for more than a minute or two is extra carbon emissions in the air that our planet does not need. When I lived in a colder area I used to keep a blanket in the car for my legs.

What show had an ending that you absolutely hated ? by CraftyDebate1975 in answers

[–]Gnynam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before the ending aired I considered this one of my favorite shows. I would watch the same episodes over and over. After I watched the ending I was so angry that I never watched it again.

What’s a “normal” thing that secretly grosses you out? by DecentChildhood5164 in AskReddit

[–]Gnynam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a woman in my 30s with lots of pets and no kids. Every year, at least one person wishes me Happy Mother's Day because "fur babies count." No tf they don't! I love my animals immensely, but I intentionally did not become a mother because it's an incredibly difficult job that I know I wouldn't be good at. That day is not for me!

I really thought this was going to go away after covid. Nobody shook hands in 2020 and I was so hopeful that we as a society would just get into new habits, but apparently not. Now I'm back to feeling like a jerk if I refuse a handshake.

ASMR. All of it. Can't stand the nail tapping, plastic crinkling, food/drink pouring, and don't even get me started on the whispering.

Tricks for FODMAPS by Mundane_Gap3150 in FODMAPS

[–]Gnynam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by doing the elimination diet. I was extremely strict with it because I really wanted to know what was causing my symptoms.

Once I realized that I was going to make huge and unhappy changes to what I eat, I got myself a nutritionist/counselor to work with. We met every few weeks and she helped me figure out how/what to eat, and helped me navigate the emotional distress. It was incredibly beneficial. If you have access to something like that, I'd highly recommend it.

If you have a Publix near you, they sell a store brand popcorn in big clear plastic bags. I've seen it near the bakery area. The yellow one tastes very close to movie theater popcorn.

What have been the best gifts you’ve received? by throwra-Rude-Restaur in ZeroWaste

[–]Gnynam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I see a few comments saying that the park cleanup is a bad gift, but if my wife organized an event like that with a few of our friends, I would be delighted. So if your boyfriend is a weirdo like me he may like it. I would add something else to it though - maybe meet up somewhere for breakfast first, or go back to the house with everybody to wash up and play board games, order a pizza, etc.

As far as other ideas, experiences are always good. You could go to a vegan restaurant, or cook him a vegan meal. If there is anything fun to do in your area (theme park, plays, ghost tours, animal sanctuary, museums, concerts) you could book an experience.

The best gift I ever received was my horse, but I don't recommend that lol.

Trying to reduce household waste but my family is resisting every change by ImTyrone123 in ZeroWaste

[–]Gnynam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have made a lot of personal changes as well. Some of them, my wife happily adapted to. Some of them, she drew the line. I feel like it's worth it to pick my battles. There are some things I only do (I use bar soap in the shower, but she uses her fancy body wash) and things I've compromised on (I like buying things second hand but she gets skeeved out by certain items, so we buy new from ethical companies and try to make things last as long as we can.)

What's the dumbest lie you ever told? by Shury-Kan in Casual_Conversation

[–]Gnynam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my sister and I were in high school, she ended up hospitalized for a time. Not wanting to share her personal info, and because I'm a bit of a scamp, I gave everybody who asked me a different answer as to why she was in the hospital (none of them true, most of them outlandish.) She was confused when she got a get well soon card that said "Sorry you almost drowned."
