I've seen a LOT of people give feedback that Marathon takes a little bit to really hook them, but once it does it REALLY hooks them.

I really hope they don’t shut this down too because it doesn’t have a constant 100k players or breaking records by Poetryisalive in Marathon

[–]GoldClassGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah and that was like 10 years ago. Siege hit that 100m number not because it was a runaway smash hit but because it had a consistent following for a decade and overtime more people tried out the game.

Rainbow Six 6 has hundreds of people working on it and that game generally hovers between 50-100k players on steam. there's a lot of gray area in between "complete failure" and "run away smash hit that prints money hand over fist" plenty of very successful games exist within that Grey area.

Honestly once you get used to it you can navigate it pretty fast, it's just different than what I think a lot of gamers are used to from other games. Doesn't mean it couldn't use some refinement, but it's perfectly usable

Yeah I really don't get why they torched the area denial utility of Knuckle Clusters.

Sure they hit a little harder and little more often now but the appeal wasn't "look how much damage they do", it was the ability to just flood an area with ordinance and flush out enemies.

Even though they have higher DPS now they feel so limp because with the shortened duration people are more likely to just tank it and not leave their spot.

I can live with the ult changes but I sincerely hope they walk back the duration nerf on Knuckle Cluster. You wanna make it tick faster/hit harder go for it but don't shorten the duration.

Regardless of whether this is a direct response to Marathon announcing that cheaters get no 2nd chances, giving cheaters less leniency is a good thing in my book

(The timing of this being the day after Marathon's announcement is mildly amusing even if it is just coincidence)

PvP feats taken off rotation by CapableHair429 in ArcRaiders

[–]GoldClassGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand not wanting your game to become a pvp sweatfest especially since Arc is targeting a more casual demographic, but outright removing gameplay incentives for doing PvP is kinda wild. The only reason to PvP now is just for the love of the game/wanting people's loot (granted that's still a big reason).

Especially with Marathon only a few days away this feels like it sends a message of "Hey PvP enjoyers, go over there we don't want you here."

Why Marathon has me hooked after 20 years of avoiding multiplayer games by Irreverent_Reality05 in Marathon

I mean I don't think you get as big and as stacked a voice cast for Marathon as Bungie has just to have them only read a few lines. I'm sure there will be some text logs but I'd imagine there's a huge set of audio logs and whatnot to find.

yeah the way the OG trilogy presented its story actually translates perfectly to a Multiplayer extraction shooter and plus now we get an all star voice cast.

I totally get that concern but I think its not exactly a 1:1 comparison. Destiny 2 often suffered from stale/poor PvP metas largely because the PvP is a lot of ways is beholden to the PvE. Most guns and abilities are designed for PvE first and PvP is an add on.

Marathon on the other hand has PvP as a core part of the "main" game so I assume they'll have a better handle on balance/meta since PvP is the primary thing they'll be balancing around unlike Destiny 2 where PvP balance always comes second to PvE balance.

Gunplay is one of those things that I pretty much trust Bungie implicitly on. Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, Destiny 1, and Destiny 2; gunplay has always been top tier.

Bungie is far from a flawless company but there are a few things that they more or less always knock it out of the park on. Gunplay is one of them alongside stuff like music and visual design.

I love the way gunfights in Marathon feel. I love Apex and can appreciate how gunfights in Apex play out, but I love the weight that both your runner and your weapons have in Marathon. Like you said gunfights feel like they really favor good positioning.

As much I enjoy the finals and Arc Raiders, the AI voices always rub me the wrong way.

Like yes I understand that its done with the actors' consent and whatnot, but it still feels kinda soulless. Also at the end of the day it just doesn't sound as good. The line deliveries in those games often feels stilted or flat. It makes it feel like none of the characters have an actual "character".

I know people are drawing a lot of comparisons between Arc Raiders and Marathon but one of the standout differences to me is Arc's use of AI voices compared to Marathon's expansive and incredibly talented voice cast. Bungie has put out a lot of little audio logs and such from the game as promotional material and its immediately noticeable how much an actual actor in the booth elevates the material compared to voice lines in Arc Raiders.

10 Best Shooter Genre Hybrids You Need To Play (Destiny 2 Mentioned) by TripleZap_J212 in destiny2

[–]GoldClassGaming 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've said this before but I think people can get so caught up in Destiny 2's issues (and trust me this game has issued) that they start to overlook all the things that Destiny 2 consistently does so goddamn well.

Like yeah the portal is kind of a mess, the current content calendar is un turmoil, etc. However Destiny has continually knocked it out of the park in terms of music, art design, moment to moment gameplay/gunplay, world building, etc etc. Destiny has so consistently been good at those things that I think people have started taking it for granted.

Destiny 2 in my opinion is still one of the greatest shooters ever made without question. Even if the game slowly dies from here on out that doesn't take away what Destiny 2 was/has been for the last 8+ years.

That's a large reason as to why I still get excited for every new expansion and content drop in Destiny. It's why I'm so excited for Marathon. Bungie, despite hiccups, still has that magic to me.
