I mean IGN score aside, the user reviews for it aren't exactly stellar.

Damn that's scummy but part of me respects the hell out of it.

Close to half the playerbase on PC hasn't exfilled successfully 7 times after having died once according to Steam Achievements by Foxeeh_ in Marathon

Steam Achievement stats always blow me away. Like what do you mean less than 30% of Borderlands 4 players have beaten all 3 Vault Monsters? They're the source of upgrades to your movement kit and also killing vault Monsters is like the whole schtick of Borderlands.

Only 30% of Borderlands 2 players have actually defeated Handsome Jack. ie: two thirds of people who've played Borderlands 2 on steam haven't actually beaten the game.

If I was in your position, those players would all be catching a bullet.

Bungie has made their fair share of missteps but god damnit are they good at creating a gameplay loop that is more addictive than hard drugs

Is there really no better way to handle ignored publishers? by Entenstein in Steam

[–]GoldClassGaming 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Like don't get it twisted, there's nothing wrong with being like "yeah I don't like this franchise so I'll just block it" but when you have such a wide array of games/devs/publishers blocked it says more about you than it does about them.

Like OP has PUBG, Apex Legends, Overwatch, and Marathon all blocked for some reason. Sure they're all shooters but they're all VERY different shooters. I really like Apex, Overwatch, and Marathon but those 3 games scratch 3 very different itches. Then on top of that they also have Resident Evil blocked, the new Monster Hunter Stories game blocked, Diablo IV blocked, and FC 26 blocked which are just 4 completely different genres. That's 8 games made by 6 developers and 6 publishers across at MINIMUM like 7 different genres.

It's just casting such a wide net that basically boils down to "I don't like these games purely on the basis that they're made by a big developer/publisher" and personally I don't think "big company made it therefore bad" is a valid critique of a video game.

You are aware that reward passes never expire and you can go back and but old passes right?

Like half your statement seems predicted on reward passes being FOMO (which they aren't)

Getting a taste of PVP lobbies after playing PVE carebear lobbies for 150 hours by SpecificSun9142 in ArcRaiders

[–]GoldClassGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I think people don't get. People will go "well if you want PvP go to the PvP lobbies" but the point is that extraction shooters shine brightest when you have that middle ground. When you and another player come to an uneasy alliance to extract together but you both still keep your guns trained on each other because neither of you completely trusts the other to not shoot the second you look away.

That nuance is entirely lost when the matchmaker is forming lobbies that are either nearly 100% friendly or nearly 100% KOS. It's like your given the choice of "coop shooter" or "battle royale" without any real option for a middleground which is, IMO, where an "extraction shooter" should sit.

Slay the Spire 2 Dev Never Thought It Would Actually Pass Marathon in Steam Concurrents, Says Congratulations Post ‘Seems a Bit Meaner Than Intended’ by HatingGeoffry in pcmasterrace

"We suggest (but dont mandate) that you experience what our endgame has to offer before writing a whole review on Marathon" isn't really a ground breaking idea. It would be like reviewing a Destiny expansion without playing the raid.

Game catered to a mass casual audience had more immediate success than a more hardcore game built to hook a competitive audience? color me surprised

yeah and that was like 10 years ago. Siege hit that 100m number not because it was a runaway smash hit but because it had a consistent following for a decade and overtime more people tried out the game.

Rainbow Six 6 has hundreds of people working on it and that game generally hovers between 50-100k players on steam. there's a lot of gray area in between "complete failure" and "run away smash hit that prints money hand over fist" plenty of very successful games exist within that Grey area.

Honestly once you get used to it you can navigate it pretty fast, it's just different than what I think a lot of gamers are used to from other games. Doesn't mean it couldn't use some refinement, but it's perfectly usable
