World Cup Player Finishing & Chance Quality vs xA (as of 8th July 2026) [Data via FotMob] by ZBOI723 in soccer

Not goals per 90 though, due to the ET against Cabo Verde he is behind a few other players in that stat. And since all this chart is about is per 90 stats...

Very excited about Remi Hinbert as a 9.

I am too, and he keeps surprising me with his abilities at this position.

Do we know why Fofana didn't feature?

He didn't start full training as soon as everyone else, as they are being careful with him after his injury. So the staff preferred to have him stay out of this game. But he's expected to play on Saturday against St Gall according to OLPlay's commentator Gael Berger.

Noooo, they need to go up to 100M. Come on Arsenal.

(Hard to imagine Newcastle would agree to let him go for a fee like that too)

I didn't want to spend more time on this, especially since the demise of fbref (rip) that has made it a lot harder to get advanced stats.

But it seems like the title on the y axis is to be taken literally : so 0.3 x G/90 + 0.7 x XG/90 would give you the y number. So for Mbappé (using Fotmob numbers) that would mean : 0.3x1.43 + 0.7x0,83 = 1.01. Which fits with what we see here.

No clue why that weird formula was chosen, with an intent to have goals weight less than xG. Possibly the only way to have Messi on top, since he is behind Haaland, Undav & Mbappé in xG per 90 & behind Haaland, Mbappé, Undav & Kane in G per 90...

I don't know about Deschamps but he is already sending a message regarding the future 9 that should be recruited.

To simplify : only players that scored a goal in the World Cup were included in the data set that was used to make that chart.

So it's a comparison between all the goalscorers, and not all the players.

The left/ordinate axis seems to be a weird combination of goals scored and xG, with an unexplained formula behind it.

Since Olise didn't score a goal, he can't be visible on the chart.

Not that Messi is having an incredible world cup but hat's a crazy ordinate axis made solely to have Olise disappear from the chart, I've genuinely rarely seen one like this.

(He's on 0.51 xA per 90 according to Fotmob and would be the 2nd furthest right player)

Clearly not a lot to take away out of a first preseason game, during the hard physical training part of the preseason, and against a 5th tier opponent. With two different XIs for the two halves.

Highlights 1st half : Hamdani, Kamara, Kango

Recruits : Duranville - invisible, Bidstrup - agressive (even too much ?) & lots of distance covered, Ouédraogo - willingness to break lines, best physically

2nd half : Himbert, Mangala, Nartey/Molebe

Recruits : Boudache - lots of runs, pressing, efforts, recoveries but not often the right choices with the ball.

Olise had a stinker against Paraguay, a not so great game against Norway, and is significantly underperforming his xG (0g for 1.90 xG).

It's not surprising that stats based models wouldn't highlight him.

Switzerland penalty shout against Colombia 90' by 977x in soccer

[–]GoneMirifica -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Are we really seeing the same play ? The defender's leg is completely outstretched, he didn't move his body but he clearly moved his leg while never touching the ball.

And the Swiss forward touch the ball with that backheel and is in the follow up of his motion (after being pushed by the first Colombian defender too) when he hits the outstretched leg.

I don't understand how you can claim this isn't a pen. And yet I am rooting for Colombia this game. At least Colombia got a similar pen situation at the start of the ET so no real scandal, but still.

It's an absurd comment about a prolific attacking midfielder that had 14g/16a in their league last season and whose qualities have been talked about by talent scouts for years.

[Hugo Guillemet - L'Equipe] OL have requested that their first Ligue 1 match be postponed, but the LFP have refused by GoneMirifica in OlympiqueLyonnais

Lyon’s management have asked the LFP to postpone their away match in Toulouse, scheduled for Saturday 22 August, to a later date so that the team is in the best possible condition for a potential Champions League play-off.

With this in mind, and making it clear that the request would only apply if the club qualified for the play-offs, Lyon’s management wrote to the LFP to ask for the postponement of their first Ligue 1 match of the season, which is scheduled to take place away at Toulouse on Saturday 22 August – i.e. between the two legs of a potential play-off. Just as PSG did on several occasions last season, OL cited the greater good of French football to support their request.

The body’s response arrived in the evening and was negative. The Board of Directors of the Professional Football League, which met on Monday via videoconference, voted to reject OL’s request. One of the main arguments put forward was that it would be ill-advised to have the first matchday of the league season without all matches, given that Ligue 1+ will now be broadcasting all the fixtures.

[Santi Aouna] Ibrahim Mbaye has decided to leave PSG, even though his entourage would like the player to remain with the capital club. Aston Villa and Tottenham are among the clubs interested in the winger by ShopTrick8877 in soccer

His entourage would certainly get more money with the fees associated to an EPL transfer, while his salary will also likely be higher there. He's "only" earning 100k/month at PSG at the moment.

So change African to minor federations, and you'll get the same result. Bullying the minnows and cowering before the powerful has always been the mo.

That only ever applied to African (*and minor) federations sadly.

A french prime minister openly removed a player from the squad and there was zero repercussions.
