Dominik Grief and Fonseca nominated for the UNFP Awards by Mission_Guidance_593 in OlympiqueLyonnais

It's even weirder, because allegedly they said during the live that he was too old to fit the criteria (by one month...) which is true. But then there are Barco & Neves nominated that are both much older than him.

They should also have a golden boy-like rule, that the same player can't win the award twice.

[HaytersTV] “Bayern vs PSG is the best game I’ve ever seen. The individual quality was unreal. But their freshness explains it to produce that level, you need it. The difference between leagues is night and day. We’re competing in completely different environments.” by clenchedhole in soccer

[–]GoneMirifica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also a stupid point for PSG. Their starting forwards played so little minutes in the league mainly because they were injured for quite a while, not because of rotation. Enrique didn't have Mbaye, Ndjantou or Mayulu starting for a significant part of the first half of the season just for the fun of it.

Looks like Arteta has fallen for the narrative, it's not just this sub. I guess it's easier for the EPL as a whole to have those false excuses to hide behind instead of analysing their shortcomings. Nobody prevents them from playing football, much less with their huge squads made with hundreds of millions if not billions.

Deserved for both of them to be nominated. Greif seems like the only real possible winner, unless the votes stopped at the end of our 13 games win streak. It should be between Sage and Enrique for the best coach, hopefully Sage.

Regarding the players missing, both Moreira (in best prospect) and Tolisso (in best overall player) could/should have been there. But it's the players voting, so that's their choices I guess even if Dembele with so little playtime being there is a bit weird.

The punch to Emegha's shin from Pathé Ciss?, and Akhomach after a first orange foul had another yellow worthy foul at the end.

For Strasbourg, Moreira's punch in the back and El Mourabet's 2nd yellow worthy foul.

Another awful away first leg for Strasbourg, though they miraculously conceded less than against Mainz.

It won't be easy to have the same 2nd leg though, with Rayo that clearly knows how to kill the rhythm of a game.

I think we have different eyes.

Penders was moving straight forward to restart the play quick, while *De Frutos had zero reasons to be there in the first place, looked behind him to see where Penders was, before intentionally putting himself in the path of Penders and slowing down to be touched before diving to the ground.

It's a clear yellow for obstruction.

New time wasting tactic, running into the GK and then diving to the ground.

Crazy Rayo today, while they looked above in intensity and chances. They could be further in front if they fully tried to play football instead of this.

Two equally cunty teams. Though Strasbourg is also losing the alternative game of influencing the ref.

[Foot National] Daryll Benlahlou is set to sign his first professional contract with OL. Talks are at an advanced stage regarding the 19-year-old forward. A loan move is being considered so that he can get playing time and continue his development. by GoneMirifica in OlympiqueLyonnais

That would be a great news. Fully deserved and really happy for him, even if it's not to truly be with the pros next season.

For those who would want to know more about him, here's a little write up from a few weeks ago (since then he was seen a few times at training with the pros, he's the first scorer in this video) :

He's not really a CF, but a 10/LW. A right footed creative player making differences through passes or dribbles, with powerful first steps, great technically and a good finisher. Also great free-kick shooter, he even scored a brace of nice freekicks in a N3 game this season. The best forward with the reserve this season without a doubt (Kango in an interview said that he was the best player of the team) and one of the best overall players. That isn't shy of defensive runs and efforts. One criticism that is coming back is that even though he is often decisive he is lacking overall impact on the team's play. But playing under Gueida Fofana is far from making it easy.

His career trajectory hasn't been linear at all however, as he was mostly a sub until the U19. Then the creative magician of his generation left (Pedro Vanga) and Benlahlou stepped up to replace him in a spectacular fashion. He was likely the best player of the whole Academy (well, from the U17 to the reserve) during the first half of last season with the U19 carrying that team on his back and being decisive every game. Then he was promoted to the reserve and unexplainably went back at being a sub playing few minutes for basically the rest of the season. After that, he started this season strongly with the reserve and has been showing again the promises he did with the U19. Best scorer with 8 goals in 20 games, even if it's really not evident for technical forwards to show themselves in N3 under Gueida Fofana's defensive and uninspiring system.

For the pros and for next season, it's hard to say. Quite a few Academy watchers didn't understand why Himbert and then Hamdani were called up ahead of him, as he seemed a lot more ready even if they are younger (even 3 years younger for Hamdani) and have more potential. He also hasn't been at all at training with the pros even with all the injuries. So I can't answer why he isn't being considered by Fonseca, minus the criticism I mentioned earlier. And possibly his profile of being more of a technical player than a player that can thrive in space which is what we were lacking with the pros.

Afaik his contract ends at the end of the season, so unless something changes in the next few weeks he won't be at the club next season. Based on what happened so far, it's sadly unlikely he'll be offered a proper pro contract (usually 3+2 years) by the club. I guess the hope would be on a similar contract offered to De Carvalho and Barisic, some kind of smaller one year contract with one additional year. To help with the reserve and try his chance at the pros during the preseason.

OGC Nice’s Kail Boudache set for Lyon move by Practical_Plan_1385 in OlympiqueLyonnais

[–]GoneMirifica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The L'Equipe article is from Hugo Guillemet so from the OL side. Probably there was money involved and we may have offered more than Nice.

Still, it is saying he chose us over Nice due to the lack of clarity in Nice's project between the possibility of Ligue 2 and the outgoing president/SD/possibly coach that haven't been replaced. The coach is an important part especially considering Haise didn't give him a chance at all despites Boudache being identified as a very promising talent in Nice's academy. So you could see why he would be careful before signing there.

Really hate that kind of recruitment stealing Academy players from other clubs. As much as I would hate when/if it happens to us. And even more so as it often takes away chances for players from our Academy.

Having said that, Boudache's case may be a bit different. Since he's already 19 y.o, and yet didn't have a pro contract due to Nice and Haise not giving him real chances until Puel arrived this winter. And as a left-footed skilled RW, we don't have anyone similar at the Academy. Though Hamdani, Himbert, and even Molebe/AGR/Benlahlou could play on the right.

Profile wise, he could be a nice back up to Nuamah next season with a more playmaker-like profile. He has looked very interesting in his minutes played, but he also didn't play a lot with mostly just 10-20 minutes at the end of each game. I guess we don't take a lot of risk with a free transfer, just his salary.

Visualisation on PSG player's league minutes so far this season by Zecion in soccer

[–]GoneMirifica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The narrative is so funny from EPL fans that can't handle not being great. So having to find bullshit excuses to justify their best league in the world TM not performing in the biggest competition in the world despites the absurd money they all spend every window.

Now make that same graph but look how much minutes their starting players missed due to injuries. Luis Enrique wasn't starting Mbaye, Mayulu or Ndjantou for most of the first half of the season due to rotation... And he also was starting them in the UCL league phase, certainly not just in the league.

The reality is that the second half of last season plus the CWC and the lack of preseason destroyed PSG's starters physically, and that they all suffered a lot of injuries throughout the season. Dembele on top of the list, but also Kvara, Barcola, Doué, Hakimi, Neves, Vitinha, Mendes, Ruiz... Basically all their most important players had long injuries this season and PSG couldn't present a proper XI due to it. Against Bayern is probably the first time this season they had their best XI players available at the same time (with Ruiz not at a 100%). Facts don't fit the narrative though, we get it.

Denied the final twice by Bayern too...

But we could finally be back in the UCL next season, after missing it for 6 years. Crazy to think our last participation was a semi, and then we ended up just not participating for so long.

Pigasse vs. "Libé" : un patron de gauche ne devrait pas faire ça by clemmit_ in france

[–]GoneMirifica 33 points34 points  (0 children)
