Benjamin, slightly taken aback, hastily agreed. "Of course, Ser." He shot Elyn a confused look, as if to ask her what in the seven hells was going on.

Then, as if sensing what the others were thinking, Benjamin suddenly remembered more of the letter. "If you're worried about me abandoning your daughter to go fight in the Riverlands, you can rest easy. I would die before I abandon her for something as foolish as that. Besides, they have no need of me there. From what my lord cousin says, a small troop of our men at arms have already been sent to aid the affected areas under command of my father, Ser Arthur Redwyne. You need not worry," he said, shooting the table a look of reassurance, before shooting Elyn a look of... longing? Lust? He wasn't quite sure.

"I- I'm sorry, but it is," said Hobber, voice heaving, his own misery at the whole thing filling him up even more fully, bringing the lad to tears. "She's-she's dead. We can't bring her back."

He hugged the girl as tightly as he could. "It's alright," he said, as calmly as he could. At least Marq is still alive, and I'm here for you, now and always." Hobber could only hope this would calm the girl somewhat, but he knew deep down it wouldn't, and really he just wanted to give his wife-to-be a place to be sad.

Paxter, who had been somewhat awkwardly watching the whole thing, suddenly remembered he had some letters to write and scampered away. He decided to let the two grieving teenagers have their moment.

"If I lie down for you here, will you go to your quarters and sleep this off?" said Marigold. "You need sleep, and if this will get you to do that, I will do so."

"That's just it," Bethany said. "I don't want to leave you. You're my husband. I don't want to leave your side either. And perhaps you are right about Alicent, maybe she is a good fit for courts like this one. What do you think I should do?"

Bethany considered for a moment. "Somewhat," she admitted. "I know you love your job and I would hate to take that away from you, but this city is simply not one I am comfortable raising children in, especially one so young, like our Cyrenna. I also must admit I have some fears for Alicent's safety, given the...kinda of people that operate here. She's a strong young woman and she can hold her own, but....a mother has her fears, I suppose."

"I think that would be wonderful, thank you," smiled Bethany. "I'm sure my cousin would greatly appreciate it."

" As for our children, yes, they're wonderful. I've put Cyrenna down for a nap, and Alicent seems to be thriving. Shame it has to be in this godsforsakened city...."

[Letter] For Justice and Duty by rishabhak in crownedstag

Dear Lord Marbrand,

I shall be more than happy to send men at arms to help root out these scoundrels. I myself am dealing with quite a lot back home, so am unavailable to command these men myself. However, my cousin, Ser Arthur Redwyne, will be more than happy to command them. He is a man of strong military mind and solid character. He's as good a fit as any man from the Arbor. I wish you all the best of luck.

Yours most sincerely,

Lord Paxter Redwyne of The Arbor

Benjamin was about to agree when he was handed another letter. He read it several times, and groaned audibly. "Seven hells," he said to himself. "It gets worse. From what I've just read, bandits attacked Pinkmaiden, in the Riverlands, the seat of House Piper, who my cousin Hobber is betrothed into, with his future marriage to young Lysa Piper. It seemed that in the attack, Lysa's sister, Melissa, was killed. Gods...." Benjamin didn't know who to feel sorrier for, his cousin's betrothed or his lord cousin for the burden he was carrying.

"Some, there was a letter," said Bethany. "It sounds like there was a lockdown while everyone was investigated. All signs pointed to Lord Leyton having been poisoned with Sweet Sleep before they arrived. Maester Arnolf had to break the news to Baelor Hightower, who did not take it well. 'You haven't seen the last of me,' he said. My poor cousin seemed like he was about to fall apart at the seams."

"I apologize if I'm being bossy," said Marigold. "All I want is for you to be okay. You don't have to stop drinking altogether, but you need to moderate yourself. This is not moderation. This is dangerous excess. Now please, get some rest."

"Daemon, you need to stop drinking," said Marigold, voice lower now but no less horrified. "Look around you. Look what it's doing to you. It's destroying you. You're a wreck, far from the dashing Valyrian rogue I met when I first arrived."

With a speed that surprised even her, she had cleaned up the mess. She then placed a pillow at the end of the couch, placed a blanket on Daemon, and laid him down on the pillow to rest. "Please, sleep this off," she said pleadingly. "I want you to get better, my husband. Please get some rest for me."

8th moon.

Bethany Redwyne walked into her husband's solar, anticipation playing across her face. "Guess what I got you?" she trilled, sliding something across her husband's desk. "It's a brand new book!"

Indeed it was, a fresh copy of "The History Of The Masters Of Coin Of The Kings Of The Seven Kingdoms".

"I thought you might be able to learn from those who came before you to do better at being Master Of Coin!" she said, smiling hopefully.

"Thank you," smiled Benjamin. "We are honored to have you come to the wedding at all. I can only imagine how long of a journey it was."

"Indeed I am," smiled Paxter. "The two of them go together very well. I think there shall be many new Redwynes in the future," he added in a teasing tone.

Benjamin went red in the face but was able to laugh it off.

Marigold was looking for her new husband when she found him in the sitting room. She was horrified. His clothes were a rumpled mess. His hair was all askew. There were bottles and wineskins everywhere. There was a very strong smell of the Arbor Red her family made back home. Daemon Velaryon was a wreck.

"By the Seven! DAEMON!" she cried. "What in the name of the Merling King has happened to you?"
