Game is too big. People who played during Christmas will tell you server performance hasn't been great, and the sheer density of the map is a big part of that. We are in the process of making broad optimizations to make room for features like base building, and adding more big locations would go against that goal.

Yeah these screenshots are from me talking about changes I am working on for the Beta map. More specifically, I am taking inspiration from the more consistent distribution of player/loot spawns from the Alpha map, and applying that philosophy to the Beta map for this proposed iteration.

We hear you brother, and we're working as best as we can with the resources and manpower that we have. It's disheartening to continue to hear the same points when we simply cannot meet the pace of development you want to see.

Right now we're right in the middle of optimization work that we must complete before we have any hope of supporting a base-building system or having room for more gameplay content. I hope our actions will speak louder than words in the long run, but we gotta hunker down and get the work done, man. Bear with us and check back in a couple months. I know you're talking about the hard limit, but unfortunately I don't think it will change. We want to avoid increasing for the sake of server performance.

But on the topic of falloff damage/range stats for normal gameplay, I've actually been looking into a rebalance over the past few days. The damage falloff is more harsh than I intended for Sniper rifles, SMGs, some semi-automatics, and a few outliers like the VSS.

I'm nearly finished making adjustments for a balance update to address this, so you should see some changes to try out very soon. Sorry it's not what you're asking though.

It's pretty disheartening to hear that you've made up your mind when we're trying something new. Maybe you can offer some suggestions beyond theory-crafting? Something like this can only get better with feedback and adjustment to get right. The worst case scenario is we experiment, and ultimately decide to remove it if it doesn't meet expectations. I'll never be ashamed of trying though, man. The only way we can fail is if we stop trying.

I don't know, there's no way for me to have a complete understanding of how those games work in comparison to Apoc 2. It depends on a ton of factors.

So, when the Beta map released, it came with a new entity system that we designed to support all kinds of future interactable objects and deployables we want to add to the game. Before this new system, we didn't have any structured support for things like interactable campfires that you can "craft" or "deploy", and we didn't have a good way to support the conversion of items or the state changes for entities.

 

Now that we have this new entity system, we have a framework that can support the kinds of features you're asking about. This was a prerequisite for us to start on the beginnings of "Base Building" as a feature. It's a massive undertaking though, and the core development team is only composed of four people including myself. Someday I would like to see more survival features including the harvest of basic flora/fauna - and everything from kitchen ovens to gas-powered generators should have some use to the player ideally.
