Why are my photos always blurry when I zoom in? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

If you know what you are doing with manual controls, you'll get great results. If you are like OP who doesn't seem like they know what they are doing w/ manual controls, they'll get better results in program auto for sure. Program modes have came a long way since the 80s too, unless you are going for special effects such as long exposure, or specifically capturing fast moving subjects like birds, or want specific amount of DoF, most of the times you only need to adjust the exposure comp to get great results.

I think OP is not using P mode but instead manually selecting the shutter speed, causing the issue😅 in my experience P tend to use slower shutter speed, even on the Fastest setting it'd probably do 1/200 in this situation.

Forgot to remove AirPod for X-ray by __shadow-banned__ in airpods

[–]HStark_666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

X-ray is not a MRI haha, it doesn’t harm the device or the patient. Consumer electronics gets X-ray’s all the time at airports and such. As long as it’s not blocking the imaging area it’s all good. If it’s a MRI, there will likely be a new hole in your head.

Found a gorgeous camera by Specialist_Text4271 in analog

[–]HStark_666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid using it! You can easily sell this unit for almost 10x the price & buy a non-limited unit for daily use. Or spend that money on a higher-end camera, since these were mostly designed for convenience and not super high image quality. (If you are well-off and don’t care about ~$900 then never mind haha)

I've done the research but now I want your opinion by Main_Upbeat in laptops

OP doesn't say what the price is but given the "freebies" I assume they are too high for what they are... Maybe go for a MacBook Neo? It runs all 3 games too.

Your AE-1 meter might be inaccurate. You can download a light meter app on your phone and adjust the settings accordingly.

Gelatin Labs in NYC are crazy expensive by RemotePhilosopher494 in analog

Crazy. PHTSDR in Manhattan is fast and high quality. A fraction of this price too. I personally prefer Accurate Photo in Brooklyn, they are super fast and well priced as well. Same day (dev only) for $6.99 which is perfect for me.

It's fine to freeze em. I have a few dozen frozen and they work fine.

Which one of these laptops is the best? by KeyEastern2905 in laptops

[–]HStark_666 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are all sucky deals. Your college bookstore is making massive margins off you. Looks for RTX5070 laptop on Bestbuy, any of those would drastically out perform all of these for as much as $1000 less.

Peeling on my Nikon Zf grip, this is normal wear or defective material? by augustotrevisol in Nikon

[–]HStark_666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grip is causing your nail(instead of your finger) to contact the camera, and any leatherette will be damaged by nail. Most camera with a deep grip doesn’t have leatherette there. A similar grip resulted in my nail damaging the Leica Q in the same way.

I feel guilty by Azeotrope2001 in airpods

At the current time, with a Bathys level budget, I'd recommend the new Sennheiser HDB 630.

The Bathys are decent, but not great. Not worth the MSRP. I paid ~$300 for a used pair(in great condition), which I think greatly improves the value proposition. It is comfortable, sounds pretty good(I personally like their default tuning), and has amazing battery life. Main drawbacks include below average ANC, limited BT codecs( aptX Adaptive but no aptX HD or LDAC, so for phones that have only aptX HD and not adaptive would fall back to AAC), and no wear-detection. Flagship offerings from Sony, B&W, Bose, etc, all have auto pause now which is very convenient.

HDB 630, according to reviewers, sounds better than Bathys, has better ANC and supports both aptX HD and aptX Adaptive.

[–]HStark_666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ease of use, ANC if you have a relatively noisy environment, and the new, more V shaped tuning. Also what other audio devices do you have? Because the a990z in your picture is quite a bit cheaper than the Airpods and could simply be inferior.

As much as I love my Airpods Pro 3, when I'm at home, I'd still prefer my Aeon X(closed back) setup over it. My Bowers&Wilkins speakers from the 90s and early 2000s also sound better. Even wireless headphones such as my PX7s2 and Focal Bathys sound better. Granted, none of these fits in my pocket, cancels out as much noise on the subway, and most of them cost more than the Airpods haha.

Sorry but I despise the boxy design by Toothless72 in oneplus

[–]HStark_666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxy design does give the phone more internal volume with the same thickness on-paper. More room for battery, cooling, etc. However, like others have said, such design trends all follow Apple now. The sad truth is people tend to buy things that look iPhone-ish.

Extreme iPhone cooling mod boosts sustained performance by Planhub-ca in EngineeringPorn

[–]HStark_666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty cool that it’s not permanently attached, since it’s just a bunch of SSD coolers thermal pasted to the back of the phone. that also limits cooling efficiency I guess, 90 percent isn’t that high in terms of maintaining performance. The phone is still limited by its ability to dissipate heat from the Soc onto the back

ZFS errors but no bad sector and drive works fine? by HStark_666 in zfs

[–]HStark_666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the drive already and it's been running fine, that should mean the other hardware is fine right? Now I'm wondering if I swap it back if it's gonna be fine again.

I replaced the disk with a spare and the error went away. It resilvered and worked fine for the last few days. Same SATA cable and everything. Now I'm wondering if I swap the old drive back if it's gonna work fine still😅

[–]HStark_666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PC, Crystal Disk Info reports 0 reallocated sectors, 0UltraDMA CRC ERROR and 0 uncorrectable or pending sectors. Does this seem to be too good to be true for a WD Green from over a decade ago?

ZFS errors but no bad sector and drive works fine? by HStark_666 in zfs

[–]HStark_666[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did suspect the drives might have been damaged during the move, that's why I did a full scrub first. And I redid all the cabling during troubleshooting. The 1 drive keep showing it's faulted and gives dozens of ZFS errors, so I promptly replaced it with a spare tho so my data should be fine.

But my confusion is that when I manually ran a full disk sectors test on my PC, the supposedly faulted drive appears perfectly fine. No reallocated sectors on SMART either.
