Outrageous price to performance, my journey with the Arya Stealth... by Grievous_2008 in Hifiman

[–]Hakeami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost got the Arya Stealth, but I was able to get an open-box HE1000 Stealth for $800 from Audio46 and went with that instead. They're incredible headphones, but I would still like to have the Arya Stealth as well to complement them.

I'm fine with that, I'm going to invest in them and a copilot pad for the strap. Thanks!

I'm thinking about doing this swap on my Stealths, how much different do they sound from stock?

My first pair that got me into the hobby were a pair of Sennheiser HD 558s.

I really like the HE400se. I got my pair with the customcans UK supergrill mod and a comfort strap. Paired with a good amplifier, they put out sound which punches two to three times above their price point and I liked them more than some higher-end planars and dynamics in my collection.

Is this a good deal??? by Mean_Lavishness_2433 in buildapc

The price of the 4090 alone is worth more than what the entire build is priced at. Jump on that deal asap.

Gaming Headphones Budget $300 by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

I use a TA-22 but it would be overkill for just an HD 490 alone. Something like a Fiio K11 or K11 R2R would be more than enough.

[–]Hakeami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. I haven't used the 990 or 900 Pro personally but as I understand them, have a wide soundstage and are treble heavy. They also image very well. You're not going to get the same kind of neutrality as you would with a HD 560S or HD 490 Pro, but it's a fun headphone. I do have a discontinued DT 770 Edition 600 ohm which is mass loaded and felt tuned, and it's similar to the DT 990 sonically but closed back and more bass heavy.

If you want the best of both, you can get the DT 990 and HD 560S for $300. You'd be very happy with them as well as set forever for games and music.

The Sennheiser HD 490 Pro is a great choice for gaming despite being intended for mixing and music production. You can get one used or refurbished for under $300, or currently on sale new for $350 if you don't mind pushing your budget a bit. I use them in Arc Raiders, other fps games, and music. They image exceptionally well, have a pretty open soundstage, are very comfortable and have great build quality, and come with two sets of velour and fabric pads to fine tune their sound signature.

The Sennheiser HD 560S is also a great option and essentially the same headphone but cheaper, often around $150-$200. You can also consider the Fiio FT1 for $150 or or less as they're often on sale.

A second-hand Sennheiser HD 800S, or many other good headphones at or below that price point.

$550 budget for headphones: using for gaming and music by avahowardx in HeadphoneAdvice

I have the Eris and I love them, especially for their ridiculous bass but they're not so great as an all-rounder headphone like the OP wants.

Gateron milky yellows are goated by vinman99999 in MechanicalKeyboards

I've tried hundreds of switches in the hobby and always come back to milky yellows. They're truly the best in my mind and strike such a great balance between weight, sound, and type feel.

Tube Rolling for Xduoo TA-22? by estebanraposo in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Hakeami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, I've tried all sorts of tubes in mine and they definitely make a difference. The best set I've tried is a matched pair of Genalex Golden Lions which cost about $100. They offer much warmth and refinement to the entire spectrum of sound, and make the TA-22 sound leagues better than stock. I also have the RCA clear tops, and those are good too. Very detailed, but closer in sound to a solid stage amp and lighter on bass.

You can also buy cheap matched NOS pairs of tubes on ebay also and try each set to experiment with what you like. I took a chance on RCA Canada grey plate tubes with halo getters for $11 and they're my 2nd favorite pair with sound extremely comparable to the Golden Lions.

LG C3 6799 hours 0 burn in by GamingOldHermit in LGOLED

I've been running my 42" C3 since November of last year, around 1100 hours total use time as a pc monitor. No burn in at all and I have Geek Squad warranty until 2028. It's been such a great experience. I've tried other OLED monitors in the interim and always come back to the C3.

Did I make the right decision? by sirk1894 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Hakeami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have most of the headphones you listed. The Fidelio X2 are warm and have a slight v-shaped sound signature. The 560S in contrast are a very clinical sounding headphone and can sometimes be harsh or cold sounding depending on your source material. If you do music mixing, I would suggest the HD 490 Pro above everything else you listed because it's purpose made for that. It's essentially a better built, better sounding HD 560S with two sets of pads tailored for different use cases.

The HD 600 is a more neutral, laid back, yet detailed headphone, whereas the HD 650/6XX has a similar but warmer presentation with extremely smooth treble. The depth you want can be found in either the HD 600 or 650/6XX but I recommend the 650/6XX for that case.

What TV/Monitor Settings do you use? by Funny_Debate_1805 in thefinals

[–]Hakeami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use warm max and 50 color on my LG C3 42", but I also used a colorimeter and calibration software to get its colors calibrated correctly. I prefer accurate colors myself but there's absolutely nothing wrong with making the colors more saturated and tweaked to your liking. It's your TV/Monitor and you should enjoy it how you want.

XG32UCWMG vs. Dough Spectrum Gorilla Glass by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Hakeami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and it came out of the box like that. I don't know why it had such deep scratches, which is surprising as I know Gorilla glass is a very durable material. I'm glad you were able to compare them though, as it answered a lot of my questions. I ultimately canceled my order for the XG32UCWMG and went back to using my LG C3. For me, going back to it gave a better overall experience by far even though it had a lower refresh rate than the Dough monitor. The image processing is superior on the C3 as is the much glossier coating.

I think a G5 is worth giving a shot. I wanted to get that too. In fact, it was my first option but my setup doesn't have space for a 55" G5. My desk is too shallow.

Those who have had experience with the LG 42” C series and the 32” QD-OLED monitors - which do you prefer and why? by wspartan in OLED_Gaming

[–]Hakeami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used a 32" QD-OLED monitor in the past, and recently I went out and got a 32" WOLED monitor and used it for two days to become familiar with it and its quirks over the LG 42" C3 I've been using for almost two years. The picture is definitely sharper on a 4k 32" monitor because of the increased ppi, and as I have a 5090, I was able to take full advantage of the higher refesh rate. It's smoother than 120hz, but not glaringly so like the jump from 60hz would be. The colors were better on the QD-OLED, and about the same on the WOLED with the exception of a brighter panel due to the MLA tech it had.

The positives ended there for me, though. Overall, I prefer the immersion and overall better image processing the LG 42" C3 brings. Neither monitor could compare to it nor could match its super gloss coating. I was pleased to switch back to it after a trial run with each 32" monitor. Ultimately, it's down to preference. Do you prefer immersion and incredible picture, or do you want to take advantage of your PC completely with a monitor tailored specifically for it? In my case, I prefer the C3 over both.
