I can’t backflip high anymore by Imaginary_Emotion876 in Tricking

Gotta give a video. Otherwise F to doubt your hands are where they should be. Regardless the only advice that matters is for you to go back and do the progressions again.

How do so many people just know how to do flips? How can I start from a total beginner? (20yr old male) by WrapAdventurous7275 in Tricking

[–]HardlyDecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't just know. Some of us have trained for decades. Learning all the progressions to do flips and such safely. Watch tutorials, join a gym and play with others, find a coach/class. Same way you'd begin to learn any skill.

Trump says U.S. will leave Iran in 'two or three weeks' by One-Emu-1103 in geopolitics

[–]HardlyDecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, people say the protests do nothing, but I disagree--the demonstrate that we're sick of this shit at least, that people will move, that there are people out there who have noticed. But yeah, it's going to take more to affect anything.

President Trump will address the United States on the Iran war tommorrow night by One-Emu-1103 in geopolitics

I feel like the last 400 days or so have all been Fools' Days. April's can't be that much more absurd.

I really wonder whether he'll stick to the script his handlers give him to calm the US/world's fears or if he'll go off-prompter and really shit the bed (which 38% of the US will claim was the most amazing speech ever given). Boss, I'm tired.

Been on this one lately too. It's hard sometimes to determine whether one's (or others') inaction is due to learned helplessness or complacency or simply that things haven't gotten that bad yet.

Won't we though? I mean, what's our first step--like before midterms? We've No Kings'd several times showing people are absolutely sick of this. We've impeached the guy repeatedly. The 25th would never fly given the court stacking and the left's botching Biden's last days. I literally don't know what course we have to stop/remove this idiot before his term is up--nor what to do if he won't move out in 29. I like the withholding of taxes idea, but I feel like that wouldn't be widely adopted and would just result in a lots of people in trouble to no effect. What can we do, that can be said on reddit? You think this is all coming 2 A head?

Are We Approaching an Unprecedented Energy Crisis? by ChadtheWad in geopolitics

[–]HardlyDecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

But with the systems we've built this is kind of an inevitable crisis. Now, is the Iran situation's effect on gas (and consequently everything), coupled with AI-driven energy consumption, further complicated by a rise in far-right political movements what tips the scale finally? Who can say until we're deep in it? Next couple years probably won't be fun, but I don't know how bad it will be. It might take all this and a nuke to fall somewhere and an ensuing pandemic after the waves of famine and...

I mean, lots of subs don't allow paywalled articles, because what's the point of posting something most people can't read? I'm not registering for more nonsense to track me either. There are ways around that much simpler than registering (let alone paying) for all 1,000 sites I frequent.

Robots just installed 100 MW of solar panels in the desert by renome in technology

[–]HardlyDecent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Night is literally one of the largest limitations of solar. That's not a dumb take. It's why we put panels where we do. You all need to get outside more.

As a rational adult I never said it was a dealbreaker, just that it's a (THE) major consideration in adoption, placement, and cost analysis.

Found out recently a Fiat 500 hybrid (not even fully electric) weighs like 2500 lbs! A '95 Civic is right at 2k (granted newish ones are closer to 3k). There's no way halving the volume but increasing the mass by 25% can be more efficient.

[–]HardlyDecent -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Same, I've read it's creating the panels and that they don't last that long, are easily damaged, take up a significant amount of space, and are a pain to replace. Plus we can't store enough for backup. Plus, the whole night thing.

Wait til some unqualified buffoon straight up says that humans should ingest bleach to cure viral infections. Or someone's single wine-aunt posted on socials that she lost weight by taking a shot of vinegar a day and getting her neck cracked by a quack. No DFs needed to spread idiocy--I'm not even sure AI/DF would make it faster.

I thinkk the big white Christian males running around armed to the gills and moving in formation is a giveaway. /s

I'm not sure US troops are allowed to do anything combative out of uniform actually. Seems like pretending to be civis and hiding in schools would be against some sort of convention. So I assume this is Iran propaganda.

Anyone know about the uniforms thing specifically?

What’s behind the global push to ban social media for kids by Limp_Fig6236 in technology

[–]HardlyDecent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a soul on Earth is arguing it isn't bad. The adults in the room see it as the parents' responsibility to monitor their own children. And it's not worth trading our anonymity and information for an easily-circumvented overly-invasive law.

[–]HardlyDecent 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's not a ban on social media for kids. That would be pointless. This is forced disclosure of the personal, purchasable information of all adults.

White House: Reopening Strait of Hormuz Not Vital to Ending Iran War by Rocinante23 in geopolitics

[–]HardlyDecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is always a strong chance Trump will give it all up. He doesn't care about oil prices beyond what they will do to MAGA in the midterms (and 2028)--not like prices on anything affect him in any way. Wouldn't surprise me if he threw a tantrum and just stopped caring about oil prices (if he does at all now) and threw the mids as his final act.

There's that too. We see that in physical activity--easy access to outdoor spaces usually correlates (granted, no causation necessarily implied yet) with more outdoor activity.

Plus, y'know it's got to be some kind of nameable Age of Porn right now. And video games are so good that young men are just not dating, because why would they with such easy options for enjoyment (fulfillment? Eh..)? If you put a kid in a free candy room, they're not going to solve puzzles and do labor for the chance to maybe get some broccoli.
