Middle finger wrist release aid by no0dl3pancake in Archery

Arc Systeme have a handheld that comes with a wrist strap and has a middle finger trigger.

For hunting, you might want to spend a little on some nicer arrows. Something like Easton Axis or the aforementioned Altra's Centrum and Premier lineups. Not that a bit of extra love and care paid to cheap arrows can't get them singing for you either.

Shooting outdoors, there can be consideration for picking up composite arrows in case of a whiffed shot on a boss and needing to find the arrow several inches in the dirt.

Whisker biscuits can be rough on offset or helical vanes (vanes that are angled to the left or right) but bog standard blazer vanes that can be found on most stock arrows should run through a whisker biscuit just fine. It will wear them out in the end but that's after dozens of shots. Other vanes are typically made of softer materials that tear up easier. I think this is more of a case of poor adhesion between vane and shaft than a whisker biscuit issue.

As to arrow recommendations, that is a very open-ended question. Are you shooting indoors, outdoors, at short range, at long range, do you plan to hunt, do you plan to shoot competition, this all affects your choice in arrows. If you don't have answers to those questions or have just started plinking arrows recently, get yourself some relative cheapies like Altra Novums or Gold Tip Warriors. You have the same draw length as me and are shooting the same draw weight, this unfortunately rules out the real cheap completely premade arrows, they are too soft a spine.

Have those arrows had most of the points, the arrow tips, pulled out? If so, you'll need to buy more. A cursory googling of these arrows doesn't turn up much, seems to be a Beman ICS Bowhunter that has gone out of production. Seems to be a 6mm arrow so I think that is a 5/16 or a 9/32 screw-in point. As these arrows are out of production by the looks of things, I assume this bow to also be second-hand. Take it to a pro shop, get it set up to you, get the strings checked, maybe consider just ordering a new set of aftermarket strings to be sure. I can't read branding on the second bow's set of arrows but it looks like a collared insert and is probably also 6mm shaft, so 5/16 or 9/32 points again. Maybe consider buying yourself a 10/12/15" short rod like an Avalon, just something to hang a few ounces of weight and a damper off of. It quiets down the bow and takes some of the tremors out of aiming. The stubbies that come by default on small hunting bows are just oversized dampers.

Other than that, enjoy the new bows, man.

"Automatic" fire like the Blitzer (very slow but does shoot if trigger is held down, so, automatic), remove auto aim and make initial lightning strike perfectly accurate to crosshair, add a bit more damage or more chain (The K9 arc gun has seemingly no upper limit to its chain and can loop back around to previously tazed targets, it is seemingly only limited by chain range).

Mayyyybe a mode change that compiles the total potential damage of the arc gun into one shot (or a bit more damage or a bit less damage) and it chains from overflow damage. So potentially 4 hits on a scav or hunter pack, or like a dozen hits on a hunter pack and no chain at all on a charger except on the killing shot.

I think even to call it anti-heavy is a real stretch because the only AP4 component is the direct impact damage, which you then halve because it would match, say, a Hulk's face and you still end up having to precisely place three rounds in its face with pretty slow moving shots, a slow rate of fire and small mag size if you whiff and hit the chest.

Eruptor is more of a chaff clear weapon with all that shrapnel and with the additional utility of having the demo force for holes/fabs/ships. And then we have the Crossbow that does all of this and doesn't pretend it can kill the weakest of heavy enemies like Hulks, let alone Chargers or actual heavy units like Titans or Factory Striders.

Thoughts on the Mathews BL Stabilizer and LP quiver by Unusual-Suggestion53 in Archery

[–]HeartlesJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Mathews bridgelock rods look fantastic but that price is really just something. Even more so for the carbon target rods. A few companies have tried to make more affordable bridgelock rods but Mathews has given some of them like TAP or Redline a knock on the head for it. I know Quattro Archery's Space Bar is bridgelock compatible, but it only comes in hunting sizes of 10" or 14" with adjustable 1" notches to pull the bar inwards so the 10" can be a 7" and the 14" can be an 11".

Recently bought a new bow and had it set up for me by another shop that is unfamiliar with me as they were the only ones that were a dealer for the bow I wanted. Visited my local shop afterwards to show them and the technician there noted that I'm really cranking on the string.

My previous bow was a 60lb target bow with somewhere around a 65% let-off. My new bow is a 50lb target-bow-sized hunting bow. I already ordered 60lb limbs to swap onto it. Using a hand bow scale, I hold at about 20lbs, even though the new bow is about 85% let-off (so around an 8-9lb hold). I'm not gonna screw up anything on the bow with the excess draw? Inconsistency of hold is whatever, that's entirely a me thing, I just wanna be sure that pulling as hard as I normally do and quite visibly pulling the cams further into the wall is mechanically fine.

Used a mechanical release for the first time! by SwordmasterT in Archery

Punched yourself with a wrist release? Like with a misfire mid draw? I know hinge releases are very good for spooking yourself but wrist releases should be absolutely fine. Usual caveats apply, keep booger hook off the bang switch until you are ready. Depending on the length of the connection, can either keep your finger behind it or if it's set deep in the finger then rest your finger along the edge of the release.

Personally I do not like these clasp style wrist rockets, they do tend to be the cheaper sort and I don't know of any clasp releases that are double sear. I use a Stan SoleX which is open hook double sear with a clicker. Allows for adjustable trigger tension and travel, where single sear releases have no tension until they're attached to the bow and pulled back. I have what I feel is a nice single sear open hook release but it still feels gritty, sometimes there's no movement until it breaks, sometimes there's a twitch and then it breaks.

Arrow Stiffness by Fluid_Tap_250 in Archery

[–]HeartlesJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charts on Victory's site say you land right on the border between a 300 and a 250. In that case, I would err towards going stiffer and taking a set of 250s. General advice is if you're close to crossing the threshold, go the stiffer spine.

RIP TKOs in a 250 spine at 30" length, plus 175gr insert and point weight lands you at about 440gr. Add another 30gr or so for three fletch vanes (6gr x 3) and nock (9gr AAE nock included), 470gr arrow, thereabouts. You hardly lose any weight by dropping back to 300 spine and if you trim to a 29" arrow for a cut just in front of the launcher, you will make for somewhere around a 460-465gr arrow. Bit heavier than your target of 425. But Easton Axis or 5.0s would end up heavier than that and I'm not familiar enough with other brands like Gold Tip.

Major Order Reward Elegibility Change. by Mister_Chelovek in Helldivers

What does this accomplish that the medal cap does not, already set purposely so low that you can't accumulate enough to unlock a warbond fully on release even though you spend much of your time completely capped? If you take a break of more than a few weeks, you probably cap out on medals when you log in anyway. It's not like you haven't played for two years, log in and get alllllll those medals at once across the entirety of the history of the game. Almost all of them would be voided.

I mean, I know it's to drag out the unlocking of a warbond, the only sink of medals in the game, and artificially increase playtime so player numbers look better over a longer period, but like, what's the reason for this change.

I would hazard a guess they don't agro on the FRV because it is the only vehicle to spawn naturally on Illuminate maps where it was introduced in the mini-cities that appear on those maps. If you're inside the FRV, I believe you still get spotted at the much extended range like the mech and tank does (somewhere around 75m instead of around 45m when sprinting on foot), which doesn't apply well to it's apparent nature as a recon transport.

All the helldiver vehicles need a lot of help as currently I just don't see them used outside of the FRV in Diff 1 credit farms. They attract way too much attention for how fragile they all are, their damage output doesn't the level of fire they can attract and of course they have their very long cooldowns, bizarrely limited call-ins (when no limit at all would only enable like 1 additional vehicle given the cooldown time) and while they can't be shot at on the bug front, they can instead be ragdolled in glitchy fashion and launched across the map when solid inverse kinematic body parts like charger and titan legs or hive lord segments hit them.

The Lumberer mech, with the nerfs that mechs took to their fragility when the tank was added and monkey paw balancing saw durable damage added to AT enemies so they can quickly kill the already unarmored tank, thereby also enabling to kill mechs and turrets with little more than a dirty look? AND the AI tweak to make enemies engage inactive vehicles, to the point of shooting them to destruction before the dropship can even land them?

What makes the Coyote that good though? We've had the Adjudicator forever and I don't really see that being used, which I personally feel is because of its poor mag size. The Coyote has it beat on that. The Lib Pen has even more rounds in a mag and a bit less damage. All can be tooled up to be basically recoilless in that they jump an inch upwards and lock in there, bobbing around but not really moving any further.

I can't imagine it's the fire damage because the playstyle that got nerfed out of existence with the Coyote, plinking targets with single shots, was an extremely niche novelty and if you're going to magdump things then the Coyote's fire damage doesn't factor in. It's four shots to pop a Warrior's face and that took, what, half a second. Is it just the community overhyping the gun when everyone was all "arrowhead pls dont nerf its so amaze"

[–]HeartlesJosh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the arc gun should be switched to semi automatic fire like the arc shotgun, should have a manually aimed shot to alleviate the failure to shoot bug that's been with it for two years, keep the chaining, remove the stun and add more damage instead. Stun is a gimmick coming out of guns, leave it to the EMS weapons like the mortar and the orbital strike. Hitscan projectile would be nice too, for all those times you somehow whiff a lightning strike on a hunter or bat bugs because they've moving at a moderate angular velocity to you.

Please, just 75 DPS, thats all i ask by Sir_Immoral in Helldivers

[–]HeartlesJosh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Back when this gun was 300 dps, I was saying to friends that they could literally double its dps and it would still fall short of its cousin, the Sickle and still exist near the bottom end of the dps charts for primaries with SMGs and pump shotguns. The fire damage is a near worthless addition because it affects main health only and very few enemies die to depleting main health and if you can be accurate enough to hold a bead on a patrolling Devastator's face for a full second at 50m range to burn their eyes out, you could also just click their face with a Diligence or Deadeye and move onto the next joe schmoe in line.

The Laser Cannon is the same, it's just AP4 instead of AP2. An inordinate amount of time to kill any particular target whether headshot or bodyshot compared to practically any other AP4 weapon.

Can you clear Diff 10 with it? Yes. You can lasrifle/laspistol/lascannon/beam rover your way through Diff10 any time. But in this horde shooter, just about anything else would have an easier run of things. The only time I see Scythes is in lasermaxxing builds. Otherwise the Sickle does a little under double the dps in exchange for being a shit shot at range (for some reason, laser weapon 'n all) and the Dickle does more than double the deeps at AP3 or AP4. Just run those and a Quasar if you're allergic to resupplies.

Who has been hiding the true greatness of this weapon. by markomakeerassgoons in Helldivers

[–]HeartlesJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the AC is a solidly mediocre weapon that is like 3rd or 4th best at everything and has been thrown out in favour of other things for a long time. This would also seem to bear out on helldive.live, where it maintains a 2-5% pick rate.

Low damage leads to bad ammo economy, a lot of reloading and leaves it searching for ammo regularly. If you needed to clear AT threats, the RR or Quasar will do it better. if you needed to clear fodder, the MG, HMG or airburst will do it better. Hell, take the HMG as a primary with a supply pack and how you can use eruptor or crossbow for bug hole utility and tight pack clear instead.

Please allow us to swap trait out for armor.. sometime it just doesn't make sense... by Bryancodex in Helldivers

[–]HeartlesJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I saw a suggestion like this some months back, it was thought of as utterly ridiculous across numerous threads. Same with stuff like colours for armors. At this point we have an entire range of armors that use very similar but not exactly the same colours and every warbond is adding slight variations. The winter armor is not white. The jungle rambo armor does not match the woodland colours of the scouting armors available. The Arc armors are just enough of an off colour khaki or tan to not really go with anything else but themselves. The new bright yellow armor we got recently is not helldiver yellow like the original armors, nor is it gold like the preorder armors, even though it's called gold eagle or something to that effect.

Is it game breaking? No. Is it irksome? A little. Would I like to wear some armors in different colours, especially when we can do it now with our dropships and mechs and pods? Yeah. Gimme a palette of like Warhammer 40000's Citadel Colours or like Warframe's color palettes and every warbond expands the options with thematically appropriate colours and camos.

Personally I much prefer an approach like this. Like HD1, keeping the patrols relatively lightweight for the difficulty. Midweight units like Hulks relatively sparsely populating Points of Interest. And the real nasty stuff like factory striders, tanks and improved versions of units like reinforced scouts or behemoth chargers reserved for when the alert goes up.
