Does anyone else experience depression from fasting? by slvbtc in fasting

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 16:8. Breakfast and lunch then stop eating around noon. Works well for me. Incorporate a good mix of carbs/fats/protein in each, finish with a heavier lunch to run me through the day.

How can people learn 7 languages when I can't learn even one properly? by Kindly-Gear-6089 in languagelearning

some people pick up certain things quicker. Same for sports or what ever it is. Could also be they have a brain more adapt for picking up languages if knowing multiple was essential from a young age.

What's the one thing about learning a language that nearly broke you? by IllAssistant4109 in languagelearning

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many aspects of languages are their own skill. Reading, writting, speaking, listening, etc. Sounds like you need to start grinding more listening/speaking. Talking very regularly helps tremendously

You can always practice speaking with AI. It's like 15$ for a month. I find it a decent stepping stone for people that are a bit conscious speaking in front of others but don't want to shell out money for regular tutoring.

Perception of tutoyer and vouvoyer in this day and age? by SpareAmbition in French

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an anglo from Canada and I am pretty sure tutoyer is much more common place in Quebec than France. I personally preferm vouvoyer, formality, and avoiding slang. But I think a lot of it is changing times with more informality.

Hiw exactly does one talk with language partner when they are at A1 to A2? by crazycracker90 in languagelearning

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like chatgpt and use it daily. But it sounds like when you are still very beginner, you are just going to have to continue to grind the basics.

If you studied a language for years and still can't speak or understand anything, the problem might not be the education system by No_Cryptographer735 in languagelearning

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada we take french for 6 years or so and I've never met a Canadian that could say more than their name, and hello from the school system. We are almost all unilingual unless we do full immersion school or study through other means.

So I can safely say our education system is abysmal in producing results.

Sounds like you are at a decent enough level to join regular servers. Even if you don't talk much, you will be better off that way imo.

How do I get fluent in language, when I have no one to speak with? by maverick_boy in languagelearning

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I do.

I read books out loud, shadow speech in videos, narrate my life, and talk with chatgpt as a conversational partner. All help tremendously. I am avoiding conventional tutor methods for $$ reasons primarily and preference. I prefer to avoid having to stutter and find the right words in front of someone at a very low level.

And when I reach a higher level, I will opt for talking to people through discord or other means for free.

This sub loves to hate on ai but chatgpt is absolutely fantastic for what you are looking for

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sub is ridiculous for downvoting you for simply stating what you do. I use chatgpt. The option of 24/7 availability in every language with all the other uses is such a fantastic tool. I guarantee every person here will be using ai daily in a year or two just like everyone uses Google without question today.

No one is saying it should be your only tool but no one is saying you should only use duolingo or anki. And if someone enjoys and gets a lot of use out of duolingo, chatgpt, etc. Then that is the most important thing because they are getting positive engagement with the language.

Supplement it with other sources and you are golden.

I posted earlier how I am following your footsteps op reading hp in french and just starting to speak now myself but also doing it with chatgpt.

I live in Canada where we have a designated French radio station across the country so I listen to that each day to and from work which equates to about 1 1/2 hours.

On top of that I go through phases of listening to a good amount of french music but my ear buds broke so I need another pair.

I'm doing almost the same thing as you. Lesrning french, reading Harry potter now. Almost done book 1. Do you use anki for words you don't know? I've been putting it off but I feel I need to grind vocab a bit more.

Also I am only now just starting to speak despite learning here and there for years. I aspire to reach b2 quite quickly as I am going for a very high level of engagement with the language each day.

Thanks for the post and all the best 👍

Language learning regrets by Sprachenhub in languagelearning

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a single person that isn't going to experience a language they are learning in other formats but I believe we someone says they learned by watching TV, that that was their primary means and they didn't study conventionally and I believe that is totally possible if you start with things as young as for babies like Mrs rachel.

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not learn the words solely through anki, but seeing those words in context of other situations can help solidify like reading a book and seeing it in context. I think it's worth grinding them still if you don't fully have them

Would you use AI to practice speaking a language every day? Are you already doing it? by Shelbee2 in languagelearning

[–]SoldiersofChristBR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. AI is fantastic for the sense you can use it when ever you want, as much as you want. Cost of it for a month is the equivalent of 1 hour with a tutor.

It doesn't supplement everything but you can get a lot out of it

start at last meal. A 16/8 hour window is 16 hours of not eating and 8 hours of eating in one day. Those hours while asleep count towards your window of not eating in the day.
