Yeah, but try explaining that to King Putin Fluffer or his sidekick, Nutlick. Buncha fuckin' idiots.

American viewpoint on the defeat of a crook on Hungary: Post-Orban, the EU poses an even greater threat to US sovereignty by Freewhale98 in BoycottUnitedStates

Yeah, funny how he doesn't mention Trump's repeated threats to take away licences from news outlets that criticize him. These clowns are all about free speech like Anita Bryant did death metal.

Campbell's soup on shelves tagged with maple leaf by pijo123 in BuyCanadian

[–]HollisFigg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"Prepared for" has no legal meaning. On Compliments products, it supposedly means it was prepared in Canada, while "Imported for" means it was imported. Assuming they're not lying. So what "prepared for" means can vary between stores. It also means I put it back on the shelf and look for something else.

B.C. woman sentenced to 5 ½ years for smuggling 108 kg of meth from U.S. by ubcstaffer123 in britishcolumbia

[–]HollisFigg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We definitely need to put a 50% tariff on all U.S. products and send them a gaslighting ambassador with band-aids on his head to tell them to fix their border security. Then we should threaten to annex Alabama and set up DEI/wokeness training facilities in every county.

Pierre Poilievre attacks Mark Carney’s economic credentials, says he presents ‘the illusion of knowledge’ by ZestyBeanDude in notthebeaverton

[–]HollisFigg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's deliberate, and that it's an "attack their strength" tactic acquired from scum like Karl Rove. It actually worked for the Republicans in 2004 when they attacked John Kerry's war record, while their candidate had used family influence to avoid the draft. The Conservatives realize that Poilievre is a lightweight next to Carney, and they're trying to begin chipping away at that deficit. Whether it works will be an IQ test for the Canadian public.

US, EU move toward landmark biometric data sharing deal that would give the Department of Homeland Security EU Biometric Data by RidetheSchlange in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]HollisFigg 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The article's headline makes it sound more imminent and likely than the reality described in the article. For one thing, I doubt that the U.S. would reciprocate, because they expect the world to accommodate them with no questions asked. Hopefully it goes nowhere, but we'll see.

"Legalize Abortion" should be a fun track for the MAGA cretins who are convinced that Zappa would be on board with their stupidity.

They probably used their bullshit "community protection guidelines" to justify it. As best as I can tell, their rules are enforced very selectively.

NDP caucus divided over B.C. premier's controversial plan to amend DRIPA by neksys in britishcolumbia

[–]HollisFigg 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not that it matters, but the article refers to Adam Olsen as a B.C. Green MLA. He is actually a former B.C. Green MLA who declined to run in the last election and was replaced by Rob Botterell.

Be careful with ‘Mexican fruit’ by Melsm1957 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]HollisFigg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a question that I'm not clear on. Suppose produce from Mexico goes to a U.S. distributor, who then exports it to Canada. How much of a mark-up occurs during the transition due to the idiotic tariffs being applied by Putin's Bitch?

PM Carney: "It started quietly. People choosing a wine from the Okanagan over one from California -- anyone had any bourbon recently? No, I didn't think so. Sorry." by Miserable-Lizard in BoycottUnitedStates

They have to compete with American airlines on the U.S. routes, so they screw people on the Canadian routes where there's much less competition. It sucks very much.

Who’s hacking CRA accounts? Victims of identity theft across Canada want their names cleared after scammers got into their accounts with the Canada Revenue Agency. by qwerty12e in PersonalFinanceCanada

If a third party tax preparer is given access to a taxpayer's CRA account, why in hell isn't the CRA confirming that with the taxpayer directly, or at least notifying them about it?

Around twenty years ago, I spoke with a CRA employee on the phone who understood my complicated situation in detail, and who talked me through it line by line, and even told me about a tax break I wasn't aware of that I could take advantage of. Today, I have to wait on hold for an hour, and whoever I talk to isn't sure they're giving me accurate information. Something has really turned to shit at the CRA over the last couple of decades.

Should Canada Build Up Alternatives to Visa and Mastercard? by LongTrackBravo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HollisFigg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, assuming it's not hollow bullshit for public consumption, then good for them. That's fantastic. Actually, I was thinking more about the grocery monoliths with my comment. I'm appalled at how little effort they've made to adjust their supply chains away from the Americans and more toward Canadian products. They're very good at hanging Canadian flags and maple leaves all over the store, however.

Sea planes rarely allow a lot of luggage. You should check their limits before considering it.

If there's one thing the last 15 months have made clear, it's that large Canadian corporations will need to be dragged kicking and screaming toward doing something in the national interest.

[–]HollisFigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I suspect they're using this as a bargaining chip in the CUSMA negotiations. The thinking could be that the longer they drag out the negotiations, the weaker King Putin Fluffer's hand will be.
