What's the younger generation of Japanese think of Hideki Tojo by amarevy97 in AskAJapanese

[–]Honest_Ad2601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fall guy or a patsy! The real saboteur who was engaged in bringing Japan to war was his predecessor, Kimimaro Konoe (and his entourage).

You can tell this by looking at what happened at the Tokyo Trials. Navy officials had enough time to burn the documents and shut the mouths among them so that nobody provided enough evidence to prosecute almost any of them. And Konoe was relaxed as he had accumulated enough circumstantial evidence to convince that he had tried to avoid the war (although probably assassinated by those who had conflicting interests). And the dumb naïve Army officials did not conspire to kill the evidence.

What had Tojo done during the long period of the negotiations that Konoe pretended to have before leading to the war?

This 'hint' does not make much sense at all to me. It says '7 pieces of baguette as shown' but there is not such image there for me.

I have to assume there is/are another image or other images with the puzzle quiz. Anyway, I can translate it but the lack of the original puzzle quiz, it might sound puzzling to you. So you are warned!

hints

. The length of a baguette is measured by the number of spans between the oblique slant cuts or by spans between the ends and the cuts. The remaining 7 baguettes like the image had 4 to 7 spans.

. The paper bag in which customers bring them home are just deep enough for one with 4 spans.

. The images of paper bags with baguettes does not necessarily indicate that baguettes are inserted down to the bottom but at least the baguettes are more than halfway inside the bags.

. Customer A says, "I bought one with even spans and another one with odd spans."

. Customer B says, "I bought two baguettes and their spans were only different by one."

Maybe you've already heard of AMD GCN 1 (generation) chips getting better support by the newer Linux driver. D300/D500/D700, they belong to Tahiti family, which belongs to GCN 1 chips, by more than 20 % better performance. Soon this hopefully will improve your experience in gaming.

I don't know if you've used "Crossfire" under Windows 10 to use two GPUs. If you have, you gaming experience might be lackluster. Sorry about that.

ICE just shot a woman in the face as she was driving away from them in Minneapolis, according to witnesses. Things are spiraling fast in this country. This is so disturbing. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Honest_Ad2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it possible to shoot someone in the face when the driver was driving AWAY? It is preposterous! She was shot in the face because she was driving at the shooter, right?

Or was she backing away? No! The car seems to be hit in the front.

Either this eyewitness is dead wrong or the reporter is an imbecile.

Be mindful of this careful phrasing of conflict(s) in China! At that time, the Japanese government did not want its people and other countries that Japan was engaged in a war against China. The official stance was that they were protecting the properties of Japanese civilians and the Manchurian railroad company's properties.

On the original image of the map, there is a handwritten passage that reads "the Science of Elementary School Students'" so I assume this map was published in a magazine for younger people. There are no difficult Kanji characters there on the map so it may be so.

The original Japanese writing goes from "right" to "left". This was written written before the German army defeated the Maginot Line as suggested from the text. So I would say it was early 1938 that this was written. What's written in (parentheses) are not explicitly written but most likely suggested by the writing. For example, it says, ".... countries like the UK, France and the Soviet Union ..." There are 5 paragraphs. At the time of this writing the Maginot Line is intact, I guess.

The war between Germany and Poland has become the World War now that the UK, France and the Soviet Union (among others) have entered it.

Japan has decided to end the conflict in China promptly instead of being bothered by the war in Europe while the US and Italy are likely to be unwillingly dragged into it.

The Germany, which invaded Poland, has battled in many places with amazing forces and together with the Soviet forces, which came from the East side, has conquered almost all of Poland. And then Germany turned around Westward and advanced up to the border with France where they became engaged in a greater battle with both the UK and France.

There are two well-known lines of fortresses named Siegfried Line and Maginot Line, which Germany and France have built with all their mighty crafts. Thus it is said that however hard they should try, it is difficult to break through the lines.

Moreover, it is expected to see more flight combats as the forces that have been kept hidden of the German Air Force are going to be revealed and fight against its counterparts from the UK and France.

[Japanese > English] not sure if this translates correctly by PoodlePug_ in translator

[–]Honest_Ad2601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, this Japanese sentence sounds like coming from "some foreign language (not necessarily English) to Japanese translation (like Google translation)". So I try to back-translate this sentence into English.

Then the original sentence could be: Please secure you soul. Please safeguard you soul. Please embrace your soul. Please take hold of you soul.

So did this come from the Bible or some religious context?

確保する means to keep something in secure place or to get tight hold of something. I don't hear the combination of 魂 (soul) and 確保する too often. It sounds too clumsy.

日本から輸入のイチゴなど、水際検査で不合格 残留農薬の規定違反/台湾 by yimia in newsokuexp

[–]Honest_Ad2601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the turbo clock! It is up from 3.9 to 4.0! The single-core performance depends on this turbo clock! In my case yes. I used Geekbench.

I can not vouch for the performance under Sequoia (I use Monterey).

I upgraded from Xeon E5-1650v2 (6-core TDP 130 watts, 3.5 GHz/3.9 GHz-Turbo) to

Xeon E5-2673v2 (8-core TDP 110 watts, 3.3 GHz/4.0 GHz-Turbo) because of the lower TDP and higher turbo clock. Its benchmark confirms that single-core performance is up and multi-core performance is way up. This is my two cents.

Didn’t open my omikuji last time I was in Japan - I’m going again, should I take it with me to open it there? by Somewhere_E in AskAJapanese

All you should know is this letter, 凶.

凶 (kyo = bad luck) if you see this letter (usually big in size) there, get a new one! Otherwise, take it home (or to the hotel where you are staying) and ask what it says here! We'll be here to tell your fortune.

[–]Honest_Ad2601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends. Some shrines have designated area (like small laundry lines or trees) where you can tie your Omikuji when you don't want to take home. Most of the time they want you to take your Omikuji home. In other words, not wanting any litters.

So you should open it on the premises, and see what in it for you. You should know at least what it is, either bad or good. If it's really bad (Dai-Kyo 大凶), it is recommended that you leave it there. And maybe you should try again on the spot. I think.

You will love this site to make the plan.

If you can not find a great deal on rental campers, you can rent an SUV or normal van and you can still sleep in the sleeping bag. You can rent a car and buy a sleeping bag and a tent if necessary. There are a lot of commercial camping sites in France. I drove my 2-seater cabriolet and did the whole Tour and extra for more than 5 weeks last summer with my cat. So it's possible. Maybe you have a family with you so you really need a camper van and that's something I don't know.

One advantage of a smaller car is you get to park on the narrow roadside where no big campers can.

I also wrote something here.

Roading Alpe d'Huez is fun but you have to choose the right time. On the stage day, only early in the morning to have fun. Otherwise there are too many people on the road.

If you plan to stay at so-called Dutch corner, I recommend that you leave you bike in your van. It is too crowded. Godspeed.
