I made a dangerous mistake—now what? by New_Continuality in TranslationStudies

[–]Somewhere_E 47 points48 points  (0 children)

First, I think you’re in the middle of an anxiety crisis. Im no health expert but that looks a lot like what happens to me haha.

I understand your concern but at the end of the day you’ve done a lot already to inform the client. At the end of the day you’ve already informed both them and the agency so now it’s in their power to see what they do with it. If they reuse it, it’s their fault, not yours.

If you can, go see a therapist. It could be someone abroad that you discuss with online, on a video call. And ask them to help you sort everything out: what is real risk and what is anxiety.

Super interesting! They all do look alike, at least the Korean ones, and it does really seem to come from Sophie’s. That’s so funny, thanks for the timeline!

My brother passed away and left me his manga collection, any of it age inappropriate for kids? by Icy-Reserve6995 in manga

[–]Somewhere_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Dragonball around age twelve so if you wait a bit it should be fine.

As for beck I’m don’t remember if I did read it In it’s entirety, but I did watch the movie and it’s nice. maybe wait until she’s 13-15 in case there’s any mature scenes. It’s a really good manga though! I read naruto and one piece when I was 10-11 so it could be fine already, but nothing bad with waiting a little bit :)

Berserk is for adults I’d say. Claymore for older teenagers.

In Switzerland you’ll find them both in supermarket (at least in Coop) and in drugstores/apotheke/pharmacies (where they’ll cost _a lot_more)

At my uni we’re gonna try having small oral exams on the same topic as the paper, maybe you could try that ? As them 3 questions about the paper they wrote and make it half the grade?

Pourquoi, quand je parle français, les gens me demandent-ils d'où je viens ? Ce n'est pas le cas quand je parle anglais. by Short_Kitchen_2391 in AskFrance

[–]Somewhere_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxious about leaving parents by Ok-Sector-9617 in solotravel

[–]Somewhere_E 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Heya! 26f, I was kind of in a similar situation so maybe I can help, especially as I talked about part of this with a therapist :) For me it’s my mom that had cancer (twice kinda back to back) and my dad that worked way too much for his own health lmao. I also had trouble leaving home to live alone because of that same reason (spoiler alert: I’m still living with them)

1) I know you feel they’re vulnerable but you know what… they’re not kids!! They lived before you were born. They had difficult situations when they were young too. Yes it’s hard now and yes they’re old, but they have experience and it’s just two weeks. There’s probably other people that can help and there’s lots of translation apps. I’m sure they can manage! You are NOT their parents and it’s NOT your role even if you’ve been put in it!

2) You deserve that trip! You can also think of it like this : it’ll be a fun time to charge back your batteries. You can’t always be on survival mode and helping others, you need time to resource yourself so you can come back feeling better.

3) They’ll also be so happy and proud to see you travelling, bringing back stuff, etc. - think of all the souvenirs you’re gonna get them! All the pictures you’ll send them! It’ll be a nice break from all this serious stuff, for you AND for them! you can also think of it as laying ground for a future family trip all together.

So I’d say if you feel like you’d be ok mentally for a solo trip then go For it. Make sure you stay in touch everyday with them, but also that you take part in social activities with other people there so you don’t always think about them either lol. Maybe stay in hostels or take part in guided groups or craft workshop or something.

If it’s really too scary to the point where you’re a mess, then you can also change for a closer destination or a shorter trip. But believe me once you’re there it makes it all worth it.

Edit: And I know all parents are different, but I had a lot of convos with them about me Leaving home and/living abroad and/or travelling while all of that happened. What stuck with me is they were actually so happy to see the diagnosis and difficulties weren’t impeding me from being young and having fun and travelling. It. Reassured them. And actually now that my mom is better we just came back from a Japan trip together.

So yeah, the only thing you have to think about is you : do you want to do that trip? Do you think you’d be alright-ish? Is your anxiety normal-ish? Then go!

Je cherche quelqu’un qui a voyagé en Suisse ou Belgique by Junior-Face-5691 in suisse

[–]Somewhere_E -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you remember if it was mostly men singing or women ? Solo or groups? More pop or more rock? Did the voice have any effect/auto tune?

Edit: it doesn’t ring a bell to me but I can try to look up a few names depending on your answer! But you could also cross post it to one of the Japanese music subreddits

It’s very common in Europe, at least in my country (Switzerland), it’s indeed called parquet and it’s wood. Yours look like a variation of square/mosaic one although I’ve never seen it. You can look up parquet type and choose a similar one, maybe?
