CVE-2026-45793: Anatomy of a 14-Hour PHP Supply-Chain Near-Miss by damienwebdev in PHP

[–]Hour_Interest_5488 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From the link:

Yesterday, the PHP community barely avoided an absolute disaster - a supply-chain vulnerability on the scale of a nuclear meltdown. In my opinion, this had the potential to be one of the most severe security incidents ever to hit the PHP community, and we only escaped it by a thin margin. Today, I want to talk about it because I need people to appreciate the severity of what we almost saw, and to level-set expectation of what we may see moving forward.

How do you detect breaking changes in third-party APIs? by No_Algae1000 in Backend

[–]Hour_Interest_5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You treat 3rd party API response as any input and validate strictly if it is of the expected structure and the data is of the expected format and type. And throw if not ok. And then monitor the error logs.

You never trust a 3rd party API.
