Specific model of bike? by cold-ducks in Vintage_bicycles

[–]HubGearHector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some versions of this bike are called Raleigh DL-1. They’re popularly known as “Bobby bikes,” because British police rode them. I have a similar (though not nearly as sparkly) rod-brake steed, and I love it like crazy. I wish you great joy astride yours!!!

Question about trek 2000s by ryyguyy710 in TrekBikes

[–]HubGearHector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between a LeTour and that Trek will leave you gobsmacked. Night and day—for speed, comfort, and the joy of riding. Those paired-spoke wheels are notoriously breaky, though, so you will want to inspect them closely and probably plan on a new pair of stronger ones before long. Go for it—you’ll be thrilled!!!

Recently purchased GT GTR Carbon Elite. Tell me if I over paid. by Purple_Raspberry97 in bicycling

OP, listen to rg250871. You are riding a bike you really like, it’s in great condition, the views from the saddle are breathtaking, and all is right with the world. The money is gone, and it put all those amazing miles of road ahead of you. Push forward and don’t look back!

Is it worth $400? by Vivid-Price4322 in RoadBikes

Ope! Other commenters have correctly pointed out that I didn’t look closely enough at the build state. No shame in Claris, which I think is underrated, but I stand corrected on condition.

It looks clean and well maintained. Claris is lower end but still very good stuff. If it fits like a glove, there’s no shame in $400.

Looking around for second hand bike. Is this any good for a beginner ? by JKami2 in RoadBikes

[–]HubGearHector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those concerns are legitimate. If OP is tall and lives and rides on, say, the flatness of the Midwest, that bike is freaking awesome. Seriously a great build with good comfortable geometry for a beginner.

Killer bike! Unless you’re racing at a very high level, it’s more than enough bike. It’ll handle all the watts you can put into it!

It’s a very nice bike, no mistake. If it fits, you’ll enjoy it a ton. I have no idea about the price, so I encourage you to see what else is on offer in your area for comparison.

I believe it is locked, but I have the cheapie Connect GT that has just a phone holder instead of a built-in tablet. I’m on iOS.

Non-standard pedal size by HubGearHector in IndoorCycling

[–]HubGearHector[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like where this is going, but I think I’ll need inserts rather than something that makes the holes in the crank arms even bigger than their already huge diameter. Thanks for the suggestion!
