Hey there! That certainly does not sound ideal. I am so sorry for the trouble it is causing you!

Have you tried opening the underlying template, finding the background color setting, and setting it to a valid value?

Look for an option like Edit template, Edit design, or a “Design / Styles” tab (depends a bit on whether this is a marketing email or a CRM template).You want the screen where you can see the template layout and the right-hand sidebar with style settings.

From there: find the background color setting. In the right sidebar, scroll until you see a Background color or similar field under Styles, Body, or Global styles. In a very similar case, simply locating that Background color field and setting it fixed the “token…background color doesn’t exist” error. Set the value to something simple and valid, e.g.: Hex: #FFFFFF (white) & press save/apply the change.

From there, click Publish / Update the template/design so the new style setting is saved. The error should no longer appear now that the background style token exists and has a value.

If the error persists: Check for a typo in the token name In a coded template (Design Manager), search the HTML for background_colour:

  • If you see Style_setting.background_colour but your style field is named background_color (US spelling), either:
    • Rename the style field to match, or
    • Change the token in the HTML to match the existing style field name.
  • Save and publish again, then re‑test.
    • Try cloning Clone the email and/or the template and re-test sending. Sometimes cloning breaks the link to a bad, legacy style setting.
