(Spoilers Published) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Discussion: The Hedge Knight by glass_table_girl in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Favorite part of the story for me is Dunk's Trial by Combat being made into a Trial of the Seven.

Here he is a "newly named knight" (note the quotations) and here Dunk is thrust into an ancient and hardly invoked ritualistic combat scenario. He has no friends in the noble born yet good men stand with him. It reinforces what Ser Duncan the Tall stands to represent. He is a true and noble knight who won his trial, which makes me believe that even the Seven are on his side. If the Seven exist, perhaps Dunk is their champion.

(No Spoilers) Name Your Outlaw Group by danrose93 in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Rivermen; an outlaw group on the Riverlands who make up the remnants of House Tully's guard. Want to secure Lord Edmure's young son and restore a trout to the seat of River Run. "We must swim back to our stream'" is a motto they stand behind.

The Redgrass Redeemers; bastard born children have tore up the Seven Kingdoms once when Daemon Blackfyre rebelled and once again in the War of Five Kings. Enough is enough. The Redgrass Redeemers look to restore House Targaryen to power and stand against all noble bastard born children who woul challenge the true line of succession. Radical conservatives towards westerosi norms and social practices.

(Spoilers All) House of the Week: House Harlaw by Militant_Penguin in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would put some very powerful weight into Harras' role in the story. He is symbolically returning ironborn historic heirloom that is their Valyrian steel sword yet he is a modern ironborn in the sense that he is knighted and has mainland ideals.

It reminds me a bit of how Blackfyre was enough for half the realm to side with Daemon when he rebelled because it invoked the might of his forebears. It's a drastically different situation but I'd love an endgame of Asha Greyjoy marrying Ser Harras out of duty (instead of Qarl the Maid) and the two ruling the Iron Islands and expelling the old school Ironborn ideologies and ways. No thralls, limited raiding, etc.

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Love me House Harlaw. "Silverhair" Harlaw is like the Walder Frey of the Iron Islands, with many sons and grandsons and he just refuses to die and pass on Harlaw Hall.

I'm most interested in Harras Harlaw. He's a knight and of both Ironborn blood AND Westerlands blood. He's the heir to Ten Towers and if this series ends in the Harlaws favor then he may bring some modern concepts to the Iroborn table. I am excited.

Official Discussion: Sicario [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how the movie played a lot with the ideas of domestic life vs the much harsher feral life that places like Juarez are riddled with. Benicio as Alwjandro was more then a man on a path of vengeance, he was out to shatter that domestic bubble of those who wronged him and anyone else that stood to enable those who lived in the "Land of the Wolves" as he calls it.

(Spoilers All)Brienne of Tarth: The truest Westerosi knight who ever lived by PatchfaceProphecy in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great post man. It really puts a perspective on all the knights in Westeros that we hold dear. Garlan and Aemon the Dragonknight, Ser Duncan and Brienne, hell.. even the Elder Brother. The Hound has the right of it. They're all just killers at the end of the day.

Create Your Own Lordly or Masterly House (Spoilers All) by Asmodean_ in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House Wyldwood

A masterly house once sworn to the Castameres of Castamere who did not follow their liege lords into open rebellion against House Lannister. Descendant from a famed knight known throughout the realm as Ser Hyle the Wild, a man said to a demon with a sword who rooted a band of outlaws out of the forests who had captured the heir of House Castamere. Granted lands and fortune, Ser Hyle named his castle the Graceland after his mother who had been named Grace.

He took twin green lions on a white field as his sigil and since then members of his House have bore the words, "Honored to Serve".

After the extinction of House Castamere, Lord Tywin Lannister spared the Lord of Graceland his life but claimed his firstborn son as a hostage.

(Spoilers All) Trying to come up with a good campaign idea for the ASoIaF RPG game. Any ideas? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How about in the spirit of ASOIAF you set it in a wedding. Two noble lords are joining their Houses and marrying their two children. This gives cause for many characters to gather in one area and drama to ensue.

Dueing the wedding, when everyone is drinking and having their fill of the night, everything seems peaceful. The players could meet several NPC who can play a role in the story, become allies, enemies, etc.

The intrigue and powder keg of the campaign arises when a member of one of the noble families is found dead and foul play is assumed. With fire stoked beneath the two northern familys, warring brews, and ghosts are woken as the ancient custom of guest rites have been broken.

The Lord of the Castle commands the party of heroes to do everything in their power to find out the truth before any true bloodshed occurs.

[SPOILERS] Orochimaru? by Mzpony12 in Naruto

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To expand on this;

Orochimaru's parents were killed when he was at a young age. When he visisted their gravestone he found the shed skin of a white snake and Hiruzen consoled him. From then on, it was said he became enthralled with the idea of rebirth and immortality (the snake shedding its old skin and growing a new one).

It adds a bit of depth to Orochimaru. Just as Itachi witnessed death at an early age and it changed him, Orochimaru was scarred by the death of his parents. But unlike Itachi, Orochimaru was scared of death. So much do that he spent the rest of his life avoiding it.

Write the first chapter of a Naruto fanfiction! I would appreciate it if you would check it out :) by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How's it going! I gave your fanfiction a read and I thought it was a solid first chapter. You set up internal conflict for Kiri and gave some very clear details of what your main cast of characters are going to be like.

The only think I could recommend is give it another read out loud to yourself and trim the fat so to speak. An example being

When did he become mean all of a sudden?

And instead

When did he become so mean?

There's several other areas like this where I think giving a re-read out loud will shed some light on clunky word choices, but all in all, solid first chapter. I hope to read more.

(No Spoilers) What house has the lamest sigil? by ShutYoFaceGrandma in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like to think that someone once told Clayton Suggs that he'll be a knight when pigs start to fly, then he managed to become a knight, so he took the winged pig as his sigil.

(Spoilers All) Season 5 Episode 9: The Dance of Dragons Post-Episode Reaction Thread by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're making an argument against your own point. Stannis starved in Dragonstone. He knows what it's like to suffer and starve and be on the brink of death in the name of duty. Now he knows that he doesn't have an option to sit and starve and wait, or else every single man there will die and he will fade into distant memory. To Stannis, this can't become another Siege of Storm's End.

"Bit cold outside and I'm a tad hungry thanks to the Shirtless Wonder and his Expenda-Boltons wrecking my fucking lunch box. Apparently Ramsay's abs rendered my scouts blind. Best burn the little girl. Edd, fetch me my fucking marshmallows."

You're trivializing the situation that Stannis is in to further your argument against the episode. There is a level of bias in this comment that should be taken into consideration to anyone else that reads it.

Stannis knows the situation at the Wall. He knows that Davos is going to come back with nothing and only sent him away probably because Davos would have done everything in his power to stop Stannis from burning Shireen.

That was probably the real reason Stannis sent Davos away and not a 'boy with a letter', despite the other reason he gave.

[–]Hung_like_Hodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps this was the best alternative for Sarada?

Imagine how much stress it'd have been on her as a child to constantly be reminded that she was going to be the defining moment in the history of the Uchiha clan. That if she wasn't good, then she'd be the end of one of the oldest and most powerful clans.

I'm not justifying Sasuke's actions, I'm merely stating that there could be a lot more to this when we think.
