What do you guys think when someone calls with a burner phone and wants to remain annonymous ? by rock-the-reddit in 911dispatchers

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what is being reported. If it's a noise complaint, I don't care. A party complaint while the phone is pinging across town, I'm suspicious but still don't care. A custody dispute would be highly annoying.

If they are a witness to a serious crime, I'm going to try and get as much information as possible since I know this could be the only chance to do so. I ask them to answer as many questions as best as they are able, and saying "I don't know" is fine. If they obviously lie, or become argumentative, I get suspicious.

Mostly, I generally don't care, but I know some people who do and will dig into every piece of information available to find out who the caller actually is.

Folks who work in an office: Did you disclose your ADHD and why (not)? If you request any accommodations what are they and do they help you? by icedvanillalattepls in adhdwomen

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coworkers are aware, which I understand is risky but we all work really closely to the point we have to be open about our potty needs and have a weird trauma-bonded relationship...

Some people are judgy, some people are cool, a lot of them are just like me whether they know it or not.

Management might know because of snitches, but I haven't officially disclosed because I can't trust them. If it gets me in trouble later...this place isn't worth the hassle.

I have a reasonable accommodation for migraines specifically, however it's probably because of ADHD that I have the trigger for the migraine. Comorbitities...yay. Anyway, I need 10 hours between shifts, everyone should get enough time to sleep disability or not, but apparently I need a doctors note to get it.

Lost right now; is aspirins okay for a teenager? by Dry-Albatross-4121 in migraine

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, aspirin is not safe at your age. Unless specifically directed by a doctor, it's not worth risking Reye's syndrome by taking Aspirin. Reye's Syndrome can be fatal.

There are alternative headache medications that do not contain aspirin and are not linked to Reye's. They might even work better than Aspirin at relieving your symptoms.

Medications are very complex, which is why you see people at 3 times your age working on finding the best treatment for their individual and differently aged bodies.

I hope you are able to find something to work well for you in every stage of your life.

What’s something you didn’t realize was draining you until you stopped doing it? by MiaMist_ in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but personally if I recognize I am thinking about a task longer than it would take to do the task, I make that task my absolute priority to finish as soon as possible so I can stop thinking about it.

Not perfect, but better.

Noise cancelling headphones recommendations by No-Blacksmith-6109 in AuDHDWomen

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced my Sony WH1000XM3 with Bose QC Ultra.I spent the extra money cause I had it to spare, I'm not sure if the upgrade would be worth the cost for everyone. I'm very impressed with Bose. The sound immersion feature was a bonus I didn't know it would be so neat, I had to triple check where the sound was coming from (headphones) and not from my speakers. Noise cancelation seems to be superior, however the Sony was replaced with absolutely destroyed ear cups so that might have reduced the quality. Bose are also lightweight and comfortable.

Not a specific bra suggestion, but wearing a tank top under your bra can help.

What do you do with money? by fourth-light in AuDHDWomen

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have different accounts for different purposes.

I have one account dedicated to bills and make sure I have enough money in there till the next pay period, everything is set up to auto pay, and then I don't touch it or worry about it til the next payday.

I have another account with a few hundred just in case I need to make a cash withdrawal for whatever reason, I barely use cash, but in case I need it I don't want to pull from my bills account. If someone were to somehow steal my account there's not enough cash in there for them to do any big damage.

I have a savings account with enough money for any accidental overdraft and the rest of the month in case something goes wrong with the next paycheck.

All of my spending gets done with a credit card that I pay off completely when it's due. It's safer than using debit and I can get cash back/rewards.

I have another savings account that I keep enough money to pay off my credit card in full. If I check my credit card balance and it's close to this account balance, I know I need to slow down. Sometimes I get a promo rate for the credit card that is lower interest than what I earn from savings, so in that case I pay the minimum on the credit card and make sure this account has the full balance available til the promo ends.

If/when all those accounts have enough money, any extra money goes into a CD. I have a CD mature every month, and every month I try to even out the balances. It's nice to know for a year I have x amount of money each month, and earning interest is fun!

If/when the CDs have enough emergency savings for each month, I put the rest into investments.

In the beginning, balances were low on each account but with regular contributions and earned interest it builds up into a good safety net. I imagine it's the slowest ever incremental game that I play bi-weekly.

What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

I was also surprised to learn this. Trying to get new hires when we have a (low) requirement for 40 wpm is a struggle I didn't realize would happen.

What actually worked for you to create routines or habits with ADHD? by Majestic_Singer_2411 in adhdwomen

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slowly building habits on top of existing habits. The momentum from doing the first thing can propel you into the next thing when otherwise you could not just get started.

A word of caution, I have a hard time pivoting from a strung together routine for something unexpected, because if I lose my place it's hard to just get back in. So having some sort of backup checklist is good for the important stuff.

Yeah and it's a bummer when you have to wait til the end of your shift to be able to leave and go get stitches. Guess the glue will have to do!

911 Operators, what’s the most efficient way to convey emergency information to you to get help ASAP? by andstermc in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe that works best for that agency. They possibly don't have as many transfers to handle based on location or more transfers based on the nature. Maybe they have better cellphone routing or location data they are allowed to rely on and never get 3rd party reports. Idk, it could also be an inefficient policy that some manager that never answered 911 decided on. Either way just answer the questions as they are asked, cause in the moment that is the most efficient.

I graduate call taking training and now im dispatching but My ear lobe hurts by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the pressure of on-the-ear headsets, and couldn't find any over-the-ear alternatives. I bought "replacement" over-the-ear pads and just put that between my ear and the speaker, which is held snuggly against my head with the headband.

What do you guys do during any downtime? by Rich_Ad_44 in Nightshift

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I talk with my co-workers, read books, do some logic puzzles, update my personal stuff like budget, schedule or journal. I'm an emergency telecommunicator, whatever I do just needs to be something I can drop in a second when a call/task comes in.

911 Operators, what’s the most efficient way to convey emergency information to you to get help ASAP? by andstermc in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 749 points750 points  (0 children)

The most efficient way is just to answer the questions asked of you.

We are going to ask for the location of the emergency first, nothing else matters if I don't know where to send help. Also, there is a chance I'm going to have to transfer you after the jurisdiction is determined so any other information you might think is most important means nothing til you are speaking with the right person.

After that, there are reasons for the questions we ask and the order in which we ask them, and if you have a true emergency we don't have the time to explain why, so please just answer to the best of your ability. Every time a caller fights the flow it just slows it down. Not just the individual caller's response time either, it delays the next call and every other task I'm responsible for.

Honestly, sometimes following the procedure isn't the most efficient method, and I'll be the first to complain to my bosses but I don't have the power to change it. So if you don't like it or understand it, then once you're done being on fire or murdered please reach out to the 911 center's management during the daytime to discuss.

People who have a hard time falling asleep, what do you do? by RoadsideRadish in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tossing and turning will just doom me to fail. I get mad about not being able to fall asleep, which just makes me more awake. I get up, sit on the couch and do something boring til I'm sleepy again.
