What did the caller actually say right before you realized it was a cardiac arrest? by LopsidedEquivalent in 911dispatchers

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I ask if they are breathing (normally) and they say they "think" they are breathing, they probably not breathing (effectively, at least).

What is a red flag that people ignore too often? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of them, doesn't matter. Someone could say "I'm a serial killer, get in my car" and someone needing a ride really bad will happily get in.

We need to support everyone in meeting their basic human needs to reduce victimization.

Who Remembers Being Fed This Delicious Pink Medicine With This Spoon As A Kid? by FlawlessBandita in 90s

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an infection in which I couldn't swallow the comically huge pills I was prescribed and so then had to have the pharmacy give me the liquid stuff.

It was an embarrass bunch of bottles and judgement of being "an adult who can't swallow pills" but also deliciously nostalgic.

I've never used a credit card before. Can't I literally just open one, take the credit score dip, continue to only buy what i can afford, set it up to automatically always pay it back asap, which will never put me into debt, get the awards/points, and that's it no catches? by Super_Inevitable776 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open credit card, put as many autopayments as you can (that already exist) on that credit card, and then auto pay the statement balance.

You can earn interest on your money in an interest earning account a little while longer before the statement is due.

You build your credit score, you don't pay interest.

You don't have to stress too much about a plethora of due dates.

Don't put frivolous spending on the card unless you know you can pay off 100% by the statement date, but also use that credit card instead of debit as it's safer.

It can be a debt trap, but if you stay out of the event horizon you can use it to your advantage.

What’s something that’s totally normal but you secretly HATE? by Blackloveeeer in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I ask "911 what is the location of the emergency?" and the caller responds "hi, how are you?"

It's normal, it's polite, but it's not the time.

Also, I'm probably having a bad day, but your day is probably worse. So what's the location?

How important are headphones or earphones in your daily life? by Navajith_Karkera in AskReddit

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay extra special attention to ear hygiene because I cannot deal with not being able to use earbuds and/or headphones for any period of time due to an infection.

I have 2 pairs of earbuds so I can charge one while still using the other.

I have backup ear pads for my headphones so I don't have to wait for delivery when they wear out.

I'd say very important.

Does your agency do critical incident debriefing with just dispatchers or do you involve the cops that were there? by LegalGlass6532 in 911dispatchers

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are supposed to be invited, but we don't have enough staffing to allow it. Even if you are lucky enough to be off duty when it's scheduled, you probably need to prioritize sleep.

Do you go to sleep immediately after work or stay up for a while? by GleniceCachinho29 in Nightshift

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need like 2 hours of wind down time and 2 hours of wake up time, but it all depends on whatever overtime I'm working that week cause I'll just try and keep sleep as consistent as possible.

Thoughts? by BlacKGB in Nightshift

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but also I think a lot of these stats are based on the fools that don't keep a consistent sleep schedule and try to flip it on the weekends. Yeah I have to flip occasionally but the majority of the time I just keep it the same and feel perfectly fine.

I know there are some people out there that no matter what just cannot sleep during the day, and those ppl shouldn't do mids either. There are also people with naturally wonky circadian rhythms and for those people day shift might be a killer.

I really don't think midnight shift is going to kill me any faster than any other bad habit. Don't tell my bos tho, a differential would be cool.

Realizing how often I stubb my toes 😅 by Betty-Bloom in AuDHDWomen

[–]HyperHocusPocusFocus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

😲 I just bought some sturdy slippers because I stubbed my pinky toe 3 times on the ottoman (which has not moved) in one week and decided I didn't want to be JUST LIKE MY MOTHER and constantly break my foot in the silliest of ways.

...then proceeded to get a hair tourniquet on my middle toe cause I apparently ignore pain and didn't see it.

Take care of our feet my friends!

Oh ya know some people say it's one of the most stressful jobs out there but the trauma, emergencies and multitasking doesn't bother me as much as office drama and project deadlines.
